Chapter 14: The Possession
Before the sunset, the fisherman took a talisman from his home and walked to the forest limping. After what he experienced earlier, his head was only filled with murder.
He was supposed to be imprisoned. Although the village has few facilities, it has everything it needs. The fisherman thankfully escaped after he found out that the cell he was holding was unlocked.
"How dare he! How dare he!"
He muttered repeatedly, his eyes only focused on the path he was threading. He walked along the riverside. Heading upstream where people wouldn't notice. Once he saw the boulder in the middle of the river he stopped and screamed.
"Hey, demon!" The fisherman called. "I'm back here!"
After screaming, silence was the only thing that met the fisherman, he once opened his mouth again to call when he was stopped by a large eel-like creature emerging from the river, facing the fisherman whom it scanned with a snicker.
The fisherman quelled his anger, "You said I only have to do what you told me to, now those damn bastards won't leave me alone!" The fisherman yelled.
"I could see that." the demon spoke with mirth in its voice.
The fisherman was after Laurie's wealth, the old woman wasn't that rich but she does have a lot of things. He, on the other hand, is not satisfied with what he has. He had consulted the demon after encountering it whilst fishing in the river.
He was advised to get out of the life of a poor fisherman and has been acting upon the demon's advice for years and now everything has been falling apart.
"Though, I'm pretty sure I only asked one thing of you, did I not?" The demon spoke again, gurgling noises rose in its mouth.
"I did! I acted upon our deal! I let their corpses flow down the river!" The fisherman reasoned.
The demon suddenly moved in front of the demon, it was so fast that the fisherman couldn't see it, he paused and stood still as the demon looked down at him.
"So? Both are supposed to be dead, yet, one escaped. That was not part of the deal."
'You could move this fast but not enough to find an escapee?' The fisherman wanted to yell at the demon.
"Don't tell me you only came here to scream at me for your failure?" The demon spoke, behind its voice an eerily dark tone.
"T-There's a sorcerer in the village!" The fisherman stammered, his gaze wandering somewhere else.
The demon remained still for a moment before backing off to the waters, tilting its head and looking at the fisherman.
"And?"
"W-what do you mean 'and?', the sorcerer's here for a demon sighting investigation─"
The fisherman's words were cut off as an eel appeared mere inches away from his neck, its maw filled with rows of serrated teeth, the demon looking at him maliciously.
"Dear Wilson, did you report me, after all I've done for you?"
"No! No! I wouldn't! It's the villagers themselves that reported it!"
The demon stared at Wilson contemplatively, his life was nothing but a short-lived fly for it. Killing him wouldn't change a thing for its life. In the end, the demon hummed and the eel with sharp rows of teeth slowly sunk back into the water.
Wilson's heartbeat was rising, sweat running through his back. 'Multiple times.' Multiple times he could've been killed. His head was filled with fear of what could have been. The demon seemed satisfied by how Wilson looked.
"I can take care of a sorcerer myself, don't tell me you came here just to warn me? Oh, how kind of you Wilson."
"No… No…" Wilson took time to compose himself."I need some help to get that bastard out of here."
Wilson didn't say it, but he knew the cause of the demon sightings. He knew it wasn't the eel demon but rather, something else from the forest. He was playing a gamble but he wouldn't leave without getting anything.
He has already been in knee-deep operation for years it left a bitter taste in his mouth if he just left empty-handed after all of that. Besides, he absolutely hated that sorcerer!
"So you want power…" the demon seemed uninterested, then its eyes lit up. "If it's that… then I could help you."
"H-How?"
"Just say you accept my power."
The demon got closer to Wilson, its slimy and grotesque form touching him which made Wilson reel back but not walk away.
"I… I accept." Wilson whispered, as if subdued.
The demon couldn't hold its laugh back as its massive body merged with Wilson, Wilson who didn't know what got himself into started screaming in agony. The demon's flesh mends his injuries but the malice and miasma destroy his sense of self.
"Ah…" once the fusion ended, all that was left was the demon in WIlson's body, "Hehe…" it giggled. "Well you have some resentment against the sorcerer in there Wilson… oh well. Since I made a pact with you I should kill that sorcerer too."
'Wilson' with a smile, walked back to the village but then, he looked at the forest. Something interesting caught his attention and so, he walked towards it..

After laying down the wards Eclair decided to go back to the child. He knew that he just left it alone but the emaciated body of the kid wouldn't go away from his head.
"I'm sure not eating for months and then eating solid food would upset the stomach."
Eclair thought of ways to give food but this village is a backwater village, one that most people wouldn't care about. Theres only a few facilities here and none of them are restaurants.
If there was one useful thing here it would be the branch of a store. He sighed and went there to buy some ingredients which thankfully, he found despite the lacking products the store held.
"This village is that poor huh…"
Eclair sighed, at least he had something to cook with, going back to the village chief's house he decided to borrow the kitchen. He didn't care enough about the curious gazes, all he wanted was to cook a meal for the kid.
With the simple ingredients he plans to make a porridge, something that most sick people find easy to digest, Eclair could already think what the child's reaction would be, would she think it's bland?
Or would she think that it's delicious? Eclair of course added some shredded chicken bits to the rice porridge to make sure that it had some meat. Whilst cooking, Eclair sometimes thought that he shouldn't have slashed at the child.
Eclair sighed and decided that what was done was done, all he had to do was do better. Once the porridge was cooked, he asked for a plastic container and had some of it wrapped up.
Thankfully, he still could discern the location of the child thanks to his Art, this time, Eclair was sure that this food would be enough to gain some trust.
