Chapter 285: Spar Request
"Diane, Zabita, are you ready?" Kael called out telepathically.
"We've sent them on their way," Zabita said, walking over to Kael.
Above her, a group of owls sped to the horizon, each of them bigger than a human child.
Now that Priya had strategically dissolved the Avian Intel into multiple bird castes, different Avian species didn't have to tolerate being around each other.
The owls had their own headquarters, different from the eagles, hawks, and the rest.
Kael nodded, "Katari!" He called out, confusing Zabita and Diane.
Space twisted as Katari suddenly appeared beside Kael as though she had always been standing there.
Zabita frowned while Diane looked shocked. So Katari had been so close to them all this while and they didn't realize it? So deadly.
"Let's get back to the Pyramid, I have some questions for Isaiah," Kael said.
A strange light flashed through Katari's eyes as she simply nodded.
"Isaiah is at the pyramid?" Diane asked.
Kael and Katari did not answer. Space began to shift around them once again.
Zabita and Diane's visions blurred, it felt like they were swimming through an empty tunnel with walls that were made up of ethereal twisting colors.
Within a second, they had arrived at a particular place where the land was shattered and large rocks were strewn everywhere.
Diane and Zabita did not have the time to observe their surroundings before they were thrust into that spatial storm again. It was like the blink of an eye, so fast, yet they somehow were able to remember what they saw like it was in slow motion.
Soon, they appeared in front of the portal gate leading to the Iron Blood Pyramid pocket dimension.
Looking around, the wolf and fox guards that were stationed here were still present. Although it looked like they were preparing to change shifts and the birds in the sky were idly circling the sky above them.
As soon as the land-based guards saw Kael and his consorts, they immediately bowed their heads in respect.
Kael didn't give them a second glance, allowing his oppressive presence to speak for itself.
Space twisted around the four of them again and they disappeared.
More than a second later, they were in front of the red and black massive pyramid. The ground here was still scorched from all those cannon blasts.
"Katari," Diane suddenly called.
Katari turned around to look at Diane, waiting for her to speak.
"We should spar, what do you think?" Diane asked.
This question stunned the listeners, including Katari.
Katari raised an eyebrow before turning away and walking into the entrance of the pyramid, "No,"
Zabita looked at Diane, wondering what this muscle-head was thinking.
"Why? It'll be fun," Diane said with a charming smile.
"I'm stronger than you," Katari stated casually, her feet creating flat platter sounds as she walked on the tiles.
"You could go easy on me, don't worry, I'll do the same, hehe," Diane chuckled, walking faster so that she could get closer to Katari.
Katari looked like she was hearing something foreign for the first time, "Go easy?" She asked, "I don't know how to go easy."
She wasn't lying.
"Don't worry, we'll take it slow," Diane pressed on, she really wanted to test out Katari's powers for herself, although she wanted to try it safe.
Katari shook her head, "I'm not worried. If I kill you, Kael won't be happy," She said, stunning both Zabita and Diane.
Kael acted as if he was not listening to the telepathic conversation.
"Of course, Kael wouldn't be happy! You make it sound like that is the only reason why you haven't killed us," Zabita said half mockingly.
Katari didn't seem to register the sarcasm, "No," She said calmly, causing Diane and Zabita to release breaths they didn't know they were holding.
"...There are other reasons why I haven't killed you," Katari added.
Diane and Zabita stared at her back with wonder. Could Katari be joking? But then again, they had never known Katari to be the kind of person to joke around.
"Are you serious?" Diane asked but Katari remained silent.
Kael then waved his hand at this time, causing space to twist around them again, "That's enough, Katari, feel free to spar with Diane, just tell me before you start so I can watch over you guys." He said.
They appeared on the Activity Level, N'bayé should be around here somewhere.
Kael was actually interested in his lionesses sparing together as long as it helped increase their strength and combat ability.
That's why he offered to watch over them to not only judge their progress but also be on standby in case Katari does something…bad.
"Okay," Katari replied.
"Where is Isaiah?" Kael asked, changing the topic.
"This way," Katari said and began walking away.
"You guys want to come?" Kael.asked Zabita and Diane.
Zabita shook her head, while Diane said, "Yeah, but we've been away for too long. We just want to rest on those soft beds now,"
Kael nodded before following after Katari, leaving the two to their own devices.
Soon, they arrived outside the shimmering door of a particular room.
"You kept him in the kitchen?" Kael asked. This place, the kitchen, wasn't meant for cooking even though one could cook inside.
It was for killing creatures that would later be stirred or eaten. It was just one of the rooms that lion royalty finds normal but would be horrific to any other creature.
Katari nodded.
The shimmering blue door dissolved into blue moats of light that sank into the gap in the floor.
The both of them stepped in, walking into a wide room with high ceilings.
The room was less than one hundred meters long and had a long marble-top kitchen island in the center.
On the left and right sides of the kitchen were rows of cages of different sizes, going up to the ceiling and reaching the end of the kitchen room.
Ruda and Eidel had used this kitchen in the past so there were signs of usage around. The marble top island in the center had stains of blood at the edges. Some of the cages were open, their metal bar small gates having been left open and some had very faint marks.
It was a kitchen out of a horror movie.
As soon as Kael and Katari entered the kitchen, they could smell the stench of blood floating through the air and giving the whole place a strange vibe.
The kitchen was silent, eerily quiet as though the ghosts of those that had been cut up in here still lingered to haunt the next victims.
Kael's eyes shone as he tapped into the pyramid's control system and activated the ventilation system.
His eyes caught sight of the drainage at the corner of the room. The drain was red in color, Kael didn't know if that was the natural color or if it had gotten this way after too much blood had flowed through it.
"He's here," Katari said as she gently walked to one of the medium-sized cages at the center of the left side of the kitchen. Her bare feet tapped on the white tiled floor as she approached the cage.
The sound of something moving and dragging its body over the floor reached Kael's ears, gaining his attention.
'He's awake, good,' Kael thought.
Katari stood in front of the cage gate, looking through the silver-grey bars at the battered humanoid within.
Isaiah was the one within this cage. He rested his back against the cold metal wall of the dark prison he woke up to find himself in.
He saw the figure of a humanoid female standing outside his cage, his now ordinary eyes analyzing her figure from head to toe.
'No…' He thought to himself as he pressed his back against the wall harder than before. He couldn't believe what he was seeing, he thought he had killed her already.
He remembered vividly that he had had slit her throat and left her to die. He remembered how it felt to have his space-coated feather tip cut through the skin of her neck.
He saw her collapse that day, it was before he was forcefully teleported. Through all his regrets for having revenge, he had still basked in the solace of having given Kael a taste of his own medicine.
She should be dead, yet here she was. That scar was on her neck and he could see it as if she was intentionally showing it to him.
Katari smiled, feeling that numbing feeling from the scar on her neck. She tilted her head to the side like a possessed doll, "Hello Isaiah," She greeted with a tone of politeness that frightened Isaiah.
His right leg, the only leg that he had now pushed against the ground but there was nowhere to go. The weakness of his current body disgusted him, he didn't understand what Xu Ying had done to him.
Katari placed her hand on the bar of the metal gate and pulled slightly, nearly causing Isaiah to faint.
