Chapter 279: Sleeping Army
Back on Eridoria, the planet Kael was born.
In a part of the forest that was far from the portal gate, this forest was filled with thick, tall trees and the green leaves canopy barely let any sunlight reach the ground.
The average tree here was thick enough for four humans to wrap their arms around and the width of their branches was more than most trees in the other forest areas.
This was the deeper part of the forest biome.
Currently, Kael was sitting on the branch of one of these big trees. Katari was nowhere to be found visibly, but he could still sense her presence not too far from him.
His arms were folded and one of his legs propped up on the branch's body while the other hung loosely to the side. His back rested on the main body of the tree as a golden screen floated in front of his face, reflecting shimmering golden light from his beautiful pupils.
Exalon: We need to talk.
That was the last message he just received through the private chat feature from Exalon, this new Lion King that he never knew of.
Exalon was the first Lion King that Kael would be interacting with on a conscious level. His previous chat with Exalon had not revealed much but Kael had guessed that some entities were riled up by Xu Ying's return and Alora's status as Lion Queen.
However, Kael did not see any signs that Alora had been killed so he assumed fate had worked in her favor to keep her alive.
He was curious about what was currently happening in heaven.
Not long ago, he had received notification that a lion with a heaven beacon had joined the Lion System. He had been surprised, was it so easy to get a Lion King to join the Lion System?
Seeing the War Lion status next to Exalon's identity mark did not help, Kael just assumed that Exalon was one of the Lion Kings who were in support of him and it turned out he was right.
His brief chat with the Lion King showed Exalon was more interested in testing him than actually harming him, as though he wanted to be sure of something.
War Lions were not the scheming type, so he was half-hearted about Exalon's intentions.
At that time, something amazing had happened, just like when Alora had joined the Lion System. As soon as Exalon joined, Conquering Essence was drained from the Lion System and transferred to Exalon's heavenly beacon as though that was where it was supposed to be.
Kael for some reason was seemingly able to establish a connection with Exalon's new Conquering Essence pool and it was then that Kael realized this fact.
He could use the Lion Kings to store excess Conquering Essence. Not only could they be used as extra Conquering Essence pools, but the Conquering Essence could also be withdrawn.
At least, it had the potential to be withdrawn.
Kael could see technically, he was supposed to be able to give and take Conquering Essence to Exalon, but he couldn't because…
He was weak.
Kael was tier 4 while Exalon was a staggering tier 6 as he had claimed. The universe was fair and Kael was held back from quickly becoming overpowered.
Conquering Essence had flowed into Exalon's extra power pool because Kael did not try to hold it back, and that Conquering Essence could not be taken back unless Exalon allowed it or Kael was strong enough to take it by force.
For now, even if Kael wanted to drag a little bit from Exalon, the Conquering Essence wouldn't move and Exalon would probably not even notice if someone was trying to take it from him.
But even then, it was still something with a lot of potential for when Kael grew stronger. He immediately operated the Conquering Essence and turned them into Conquering Points before creating that new mission, the Lion King Referral.
The smile on Kael's face was especially wide today as he sat in the tree, basking in the feeling of soft power.
Exalon was like an angel sent to make his life more easier, he had expected Alora and the rest to take some time before spreading the reach of the Lion System.
Who would have known that Exalon, the right person with the right motivation would show up at that time?
Good fate.
The Lion Kings who joined could not have their power pools filled with Conquering Essence, but Kael guessed that he would be receiving more Conquering Essence than he could handle very soon.
Finally, he'd be able to finish that Lionhood Bar feature and maybe he would even be able to increase his strength.
He could already feel the edges of his power pool starting to strain from the load as they were being forced to expand.
All in due time.
Kael refocused his mind and stared at the golden screen again.
Kael: What is it?
Exalon: What are your plans?
Kael raised an eyebrow, what was this Lion King doing?
Suddenly, multiple auras surged from the distance, getting Kael's attention. The scent of dried and wet fur filled his senses as he felt some tremors through the tree he rested on.
Kael swiped the golden screen away, deciding to talk to Exalon at a later time.
He kicked his legs back and jumped off the tree branch, landing on the ground with a heavy thud sound.
His sandaled feet crunched the fallen dried leaves and the twigs. Kael didn't try to hide his presence, besides, Kael was watching over him from the shadows.
Kael walked deeper into the maze of trees, the tick smell of fur becoming clearer and more present.
Soon, Kael walked up to a slumbering figure that snored loudly and looked like it was about to wake up.
Looking at this creature, Kael saw that it was a wolf, a tier 3 wolf at that. The wolf was green-furred with two goat-like horns on its head.
The wolf stirred slowly, his limbs shaking and his eyelids twitching constantly. He was now physically the size of a tier 3 wolf, slightly more than five feet tall.
Kael glanced at him softly before looking away. That Vegetation Wolf, that was another pawn, naturally, he would look at him softly.
The green fur of the wolf reminded him of that time Nalii had just woken up after her slumber.
He did not wait behind for the wolf to wake up first before moving ahead, walking deeper.
It wasn't up to five seconds before he saw another creature, also stirring awake with its eyes fluttering open.
It was a fox with blue fur and four tails, and blueish-white electricity constantly crackled around him.
The fox subconsciously pressed his paws on the dirt ground as he opened his eyes and made an effort to stand.
Kael continued walking, liking what he was seeing. Every few seconds, he would see a different creature, slowly coming back to the waking world and coming to terms with the power that now brewed inside them.
The bears, the wolves, the foxes, the birds, all of them had all evolved to tier 3 or equivalent. Kael couldn't see any creature that was weaker than tier 3.
And then, he saw a goat.
Yes, a goat, and it was also now a tier 3 wolf equivalent with bright red fur and horns that burned with blue flames.
Zabita and Diane didn't want just the carnivorous creatures evolving, they wanted to balance it out a bit but didn't know how to do it. The goats didn't like eating meat.
Unfortunately, Zabita and Diane were not shy of bullying and with someone like N'bayé absent to supply them with doses of critical thinking, they did what they thought was logical.
Yes, they forced some goats to eat the meat of the octopuses and squids Kael had killed.
Kael had been unconscious, N'bayé had been busy, and Priya was bringing order to the castes, who could stop them from trying such heresy against nature?
It was safe to say that they did not tell anyone about this before doing it.
Naturally, not many goats were willing to be forced to eat meat so Zabita and Diane only forced a few. The goats didn't amount to much, only close to a hundred had been part of it.
Thirty of them died and only close to sixty were left alive. Out of that sixty-odd, about half of them had been successful in digesting the meat and absorbing the power-enhancing nutrients from it.
This fire goat with two blue flame horns was one of the results of their little mad experiment.
This was what Zabita and Diane had told him when he first came here some moments ago before he chose to rest on the tree.
Kael just glanced at the goat, adding him to the numbers of his growing army. He continued walking, following the scent of Diane and Zabita into the deep forest.
More than a thousand squids and octopuses had been killed that day by the Iron Blood Pyramid's cannons.
Just how powerful was Kael's army now?
