Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Grey Knight Command Company Captain (Bonus Chapter 3)
At this moment, a fleet comprising Carthage-class, Courage-class, Paris-class, and Fideles-class ships was deploying an overwhelming number of transport craft and carrier-based aircraft to the surface.
Leaving the plasma-valve-equipped hangars, thousands of White-Legged Falcons, Phantom Fighters, and a large array of unmanned drones and bombers formed an attack formation, speeding toward the eastern sector of the Bloodied Wall.
Whoosh—BOOM—BOOM!
As the formation advanced toward Jerusalem, they launched metallic hydrogen missiles with tactical warheads, targeting corrupted fortifications and massive creatures on the ground.
Instantly, the corrupted land behind the Bloodied Wall lit up with countless miniature suns.
High-temperature shockwaves swept through the ruined cities that housed traitors, heretics, and infernal creatures.
Collateral damage was inevitable; imprisoned knights and nuns might be caught in the devastation. But the pilots had their orders: pave the way for the ground forces and leave no threats standing.
Meanwhile, the Hell Paratroopers, who had initially planned to deploy via drop pods, now had no choice but to follow the First Company's main forces aboard various transport vessels, advancing toward Jerusalem and the Hellgate.
From an aerial perspective, the air convoy from Forward Base 13 was carrying elite guard units, Greek demigods, and Grey Knights to the eastern flank of the Holy Roman Empire's forces.
Even before the transports had fully landed, their rear and frontal ramps opened, allowing combat units to rapidly deploy onto the battlefield.
The elite guard in Mk. V power armor, the Greek demigods in custom battle gear, and the Grey Knights in their Sanctum Terminator suits unleashed devastating firepower upon the remaining heretics, traitors, and infernal creatures.
While mundane weapons had little effect on the infernal forces, the Human Empire's arsenal boasted massive calibers capable of shredding them to pieces.
Additionally, the 800-strong force of Greek demigods and Grey Knights was expertly suited to countering the threats posed by "pseudo-Warp" entities like those of Hell.
Grey Knights' "Exorcism Bolts," infused with Hera's psychic energy, vastly outperformed the Holy Roman Empire's holy-water-coated bullets in both caliber and purification efficacy.
One Grey Knight, emerging ahead of his brothers, leapt from his transport. His massive frame, nearly three meters tall, moved with remarkable agility as he charged across the cracked, corrupted terrain toward a group of stunned Fallen Knights.
With his left-arm-mounted twin-linked bolter, he opened fire as he ran.
Bang! Bang-bang!
Splatter—CRACK!
The Fallen Knights were torn apart, their bodies erupting in foul-smelling blood mist.
"Counterattack!"
"Kill that wretch!"
"Rrgh!"
The Fallen Knights, corrupted by their hatred for the Church's hypocrisy, fought for their lives, raising large-caliber firearms or brandishing blood-red swords and shields to encircle the Grey Knight.
But their attempts to retaliate quickly proved futile.
Their firearms could not track the Grey Knight's rapid movements; even predictive aiming failed to land a single meaningful hit.
Occasionally, tainted bullets did connect, but they were deflected by the faint golden aura surrounding the Grey Knight.
"How are we supposed to fight this?!"
Though the Fallen Knights understood energy shields and protective barriers—concepts some of their own hellish entities employed—they were baffled by the Grey Knight's ability to seemingly predict and evade every attack with ease.
Those attempting melee combat fared no better. Before they could close the distance, half their number had already been obliterated by the Grey Knight's bolter.
The surviving Fallen Knights calculated that the Grey Knight would soon need to reload. Banking on this moment as their best chance to overwhelm him, they pressed forward.
But they hadn't accounted for one crucial detail: the Grey Knight's weapon was belt-fed and didn't require reloading.
By the time the last four Fallen Knights reached melee range, they were exhausted, their morale shattered.
"Traitors," the Grey Knight growled in a metallic tone, raising his energized force halberd.
BZZT—SLASH!
The weapon's golden lightning-imbued blade sliced cleanly through their necks, igniting their bodies in purifying flames.
"No—!"
"Aargh—!"
Their detached heads and charred corpses collapsed as golden fire consumed them, burning their souls with excruciating agony.
"Pathetic scum," the Grey Knight muttered, shaking the gore from his halberd in disdain.
The Grey Knight's weapons and armor, imbued with psychic energy channeled from the Emperor himself, were crafted by master dwarven artisans of the Inquisition. To him, slaying traitorous knights who had turned against humanity was not just a duty—it was a bitter necessity.
Having singlehandedly wiped out over a hundred Fallen Knights, the Grey Knight continued his march toward Jerusalem, the eastern Hellgate in sight.
Across the battlefield, 400 Grey Knights spearheaded the assault with unmatched ferocity, each a one-man army.
Despite the Hell forces suffering catastrophic losses from orbital bombardments, their remaining forces still numbered in the millions.
Leading the charge, Athena, her Greek demigods, and the Grey Knights carved a path of destruction, supported by the Dark Angel First Company fleet.
This fleet maintained a steady pace, providing fire support and logistical aid to the ground forces, ensuring a constant supply of ammunition and resources.
Meanwhile, John "Soap" MacTavish, now a colonel, led a hundred-man vanguard unit in advanced nanotech combat suits. His mission was to scout ahead and recover any valuable samples from the battlefield.
The main ground forces consisted of auxiliary troops, clones, terminators, and hunters from both the Dark Angel First Company and Forward Base 13, alongside over 1,200 fully grown Astartes warriors.
This force far exceeded the size of a standard company, but the unique organization and hierarchy of the Astartes legions often defied conventional military structures.
The First Company comprised six combat platoons:
- The 1st Platoon, led by the company commander, served as the command and elite strike unit.
- The 2nd to 4th Platoons formed the core assault force, made up of battle-hardened veterans and newly initiated Astartes alike.
- The 5th and 6th Platoons handled support, medical, and logistics operations, typically entering the battlefield later.
These platoons included specialists such as Apothecaries, responsible for the health and recovery of the Astartes, and Techmarines, who ensured the maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
Every member of the First Company, from seasoned veterans to newly minted warriors, worked together under the leadership of their captain, Garan Crowe.
At present, Crowe and the command platoon remained aboard their flagship, overseeing the battle from the bridge of the Carthage-class carrier.
The bridge itself resembled the grand hall of a knightly cathedral, with ornate metalwork, high stone pillars, and polished floors. Its expansive observation windows provided a clear view of the battlefield below.
"Captain," one of the auxiliary crew reported, "the ground forces are advancing steadily. At this pace, they'll reach the target area's perimeter within three hours."
"The medical teams have begun assisting the Holy Roman Empire's troops, prioritizing their critically wounded."
Clad in Erebus-pattern Terminator armor, Crowe stood at the center of the bridge, arms crossed, studying the battle's progress on a holographic display.
Though pleased with the ground forces' performance, Crowe couldn't help but frown. The Grey Knights' efficiency in annihilating the enemy threatened to overshadow the contributions of other forces, potentially handing the Inquisition all the glory in this campaign.
