Chapter 914: Chapter 914 - The Golden Goose

"Really?! Thank you so much!" Andrew was so excited he almost dropped the phone. After a few seconds of elation, he remembered his second purpose and immediately became awkward again: "Director Moran, I also wanted to ask you something."

Laila chuckled, "Why so polite? We'll be working together on the same set for months. If you keep being this polite, how are we going to get along?"

Andrew thought about it and realized she was right, but the problem was that he was terrified of her! Even over the phone, he felt nervous. If he had to say those words to her face, he probably wouldn't have had the courage to utter a single one.

"I'm sorry, then I'll just say it directly," he cleared his throat, took a deep breath, and mustered the courage to speak with a sense of finality: "I wanted to ask if you need a scriptwriter over there?"

Laila didn't quite understand his meaning at first: "Do you have a friend you want to introduce to me?"

"No! Not at all!" Andrew quickly clarified, "I wanted to ask if you're hiring scriptwriters. If you are, could I apply?" The words Leonardo had said to him kept echoing in his mind, to the point where he couldn't even focus on writing the script anymore.

That's why, as soon as he heard that Laila had returned from her vacation, he immediately called to ask if there was any chance he could become one of her team members. The discussion they had last time had been incredibly enlightening, and that was just a few hours. He believed that if he could work by her side, he could improve even further!

Laila was momentarily stunned. This could be considered a pleasant surprise. In her New Wave Project, she had a few young scriptwriters who had already produced some good work. But for Dragon Soul, she indeed needed an excellent scriptwriter to help share the workload. If it were him, she would welcome him with open arms.

Some areas in his scripts needed attention, but that didn't mean he lacked potential. His potential was immense, as evidenced by his performance that day. He could almost immediately grasp the points she made and apply them in various ways.

She had many more movies to shoot in the future, including some excellent ones that would have sequels. She definitely wouldn't have time to write scripts for those sequels, so she would need a capable scriptwriter to continue the story. Finding the right person wasn't easy. They needed to have their style while also understanding the strengths of the original work and being able to carry on the narrative.

"Andrew, are you sure?" She could hardly believe her luck. What was this? Sitting at home, and a golden goose that lays golden eggs just falls into her lap?

Admittedly, he wasn't famous yet, and none of his scripts had been produced. Whether he truly had talent hadn't been tested by the market. It was possible that a script favored by directors and producers might not resonate with audiences. In Hollywood's history, such things have happened too often. Stories of ambitious projects that ended in heartbreak upon release were something every movie enthusiast could recount.

So, the best way to judge the quality of a script was to let the audience decide.

Before any of his works were released, no matter how well he wrote or how much buyers favored his scripts, he wouldn't be recognized as a great writer.

Laila believed in him, not just because she had read his script and seen its potential, but also because of Director Martin's endorsement. If even Director Martin admired him, what did it matter if he was a newcomer? What did it matter if he hadn't been tested by the market? She was grateful for all this because she believed that once "Blood Diamond" was released, he would become someone widely noticed by production companies.

How could she possibly refuse someone like him wanting to join her company? She would welcome him with open arms!

Andrew, in response to her question, was practically ready to tear out his heart to show her: "Of course, I'm sure! Director Moran, you're my idol. I want to learn by your side!"

Being called an idol by a man over a decade older than her made Laila a bit embarrassed, but she could feel his sincerity: "If you're willing to join my company, I would be very happy to have you."

"Really?" This time, it was Andrew's turn to doubt his ears. In his mind, someone like Laila could easily find any famous writer she wanted. Why would she bother with a rookie like him? Yet, not only did she agree, but she did so so readily.

Had he heard correctly?

Laila, hearing the two words he practically shouted, silently laughed: "Of course, it's true. I admire your writing ability. Otherwise, I wouldn't have chosen your script in the first place."

"Thank you, that's an honor. But I also have too many shortcomings..." Before he could finish, Andrew grimaced, wishing he could slap himself. What was he saying? When someone was willing to accept him, he was revealing all his flaws. Even if he had a bunch of shortcomings, wouldn't she already see them?

Laila hadn't encountered someone so "naive" in a long time. When applying for a job, who didn't present themselves as flawless? Yet here he was, exposing his weaknesses. It was truly something else.

"Andrew, no one in this world succeeds easily from the start. If you can see your shortcomings, it means you can change them. If someone can't even see their flaws, that's when they're truly beyond help."

After hearing her words, Andrew, besides feeling grateful, couldn't bring himself to say anything self-deprecating anymore. For her faith in him, he vowed to repay her with even better scripts!

"Director Moran, no, Boss, I won't let you down. I will write even better scripts!" He wiped his slightly moist eyes, holding back the tears that hadn't yet spilled. "Just wait and see what I can do with 'Blood Diamond'!"

"Good, I'm looking forward to it," Laila replied with a smile. After agreeing on a time to meet and sign the contract, she hung up the phone.

Recording his number in her contact list, she couldn't help but chuckle as she looked at it. He was an interesting person, and signing him was like adding another potential asset to the company.

"What are you laughing about?" Roy knocked and entered, just in time to see her smile before she could hide it.

Laila waved her phone: "Just caught another golden goose."

"?" Roy was confused. "What golden goose? Did some golden chicken run in here?"

Laila burst out laughing at his words, her mood lifting as she pounced on him, pinning him to the couch and planting several kisses on his face: "A golden goose that lays golden eggs!"
