Chapter 203
Casey was silent for a while, stared at by Chu Muxi, and finally couldn’t help but falter.
“You were a little suspicious of me before, but you weren’t sure, so you held back and didn’t ask, right?” The fake Casey, now completely giving up on maintaining Casey’s usual demeanour, asked curiously, “Then why are you sure now?”
Chu Muxi raised his eyes and looked at him, “Because what I’m asking is whether the mermaid was kidnapped from Kree Planet.”
The fake Casey was stunned for a moment before he reacted, immediately understanding.
“Ximu has never been to Kree Planet. You showed such a curious look at the mermaid that I completely forgot about it and didn’t even ask why you mentioned Kree Planet.”
Fake Casey applauded himself and said, “I was negligent.”
“So, who are you?” Chu Muxi asked again, though he already had a guess in mind. Even if this person wasn’t someone he knew, he must have been sent by Lu Junzhi.
The fake Casey coughed and said, “I came here specifically to see this Colosseum.” He hinted at Chu Muxi.
Chu Muxi turned the thought over in his mind. ‘Mermaid?’ “Are you—Christie?!” he blurted out, unexpectedly guessing the truth.
It was him?! Why had this person come here? Hadn’t he left with Lynn and the others?
“We got a new clue over from there,” Christie explained. “The people of Kree have been making an evil deal with some people in our tribe—to sell our people to places like this. So, I rushed over and just learned that Vincent is meeting someone from Black Star, and that person is Casey.”
Chu Muxi was curious, “So when did you switch? It couldn’t be—” He thought back to the time when he and Lu Junzhi had been talking in the room, and Zhou Xu rushed in, saying Casey had come to the slums to find him.
Although they acted quickly then, Casey arrived just after he entered.
Looking back now, the timing was too coincidental. Casey should have been very familiar with the slums, so how could he have given himself such a perfect window of time to return?
But he hadn’t expected that Lu Junzhi hadn’t mentioned this plan to him at all.
“I didn’t tell you, firstly, because our plan was truly a last-minute decision,” Christie said. “Your boss is either in the store or at home all day. He rarely goes anywhere else, and it’s not easy for us to approach him. However, because you refused to stay in the store, he had no choice but to come to the slums to find you. That was the first time he visited a different place, giving us the opportunity to act.”
Chu Muxi nodded. Indeed, Casey had almost never gone anywhere else besides the shop and his own residence.
“What about the second point?”
Christie smiled and said, “The second point is that if we told you in advance, Lu Junzhi was worried that you might…well, after all, we’re both veterans, and this is my first time cooperating with you in such a dangerous situation. Of course,” Christie added quickly, seeing Chu Muxi’s expression change slightly, “it’s not that he doesn’t trust your ability.”
Chu Muxi thought about it and felt a little unhappy that Lu Junzhi kept it from him.
But after thinking carefully, he realized their concerns were reasonable.
If he had known Casey was fake, he would have been too suspicious, and Vincent and the others might have noticed something was off.
Although this meant that most of the pressure had fallen on Christie, who had to defend himself multiple times in front of Vincent, it was necessary.
Still, he huffed internally. ‘I’ll have to talk to Lu Junzhi when I get back!’
For now, though, there were more urgent matters to deal with.
