Re-Carnated

Now equipped with a simple knowledge of how to do a full body inspell, they decided to return to the scroll to learn the next technique.

Their end goal was to learn some way to externalize the energy, and pour it into the pedestal. 

That would complete the ritual, and likely provide some kind of advancement in their situation.

They looked at the scroll again.

After the image of dispersing the energy evenly through the body, they looked at the next image. It was two steps it seemed. 

The first step was to do a full body inspell. Then, the second image suggested concentrating the inspell into one hand. 

Analyzing the image, they thought about how they would go about this. They determined that the energy flows randomly and uncontrolled throughout the body in the natural state. 

And if they concentrated on that energy, he can force it into stasis, sticking the energy temporarily to their entire body.

So they thought "When I force it into stasis in my body, I then need to figure out how to concentrate it into a single spot. If it moves around naturally, then what I should do is just set the energy in my hand into stasis, and let the naturally flowing energy flow into it."

They now decided to try that strategy. Due to not being able to hold their inspell for long, they realized that they would have to be quick in order to catch enough in their hand to be significant. 

They now concetrated.

Repeating what they had been doing before, they concentrated on their whole body, bringing the energy into stasis. They felt the strengthening that they previously felt.

Quickly, they focused just on their left hand. Over the course of the next three seconds, they felt their left hand go from an slight increase in strength, to something that felt more substantial. They were making progress.

[Hand isolation inspell obtained]

A faint smile crossed their face. Learning magic was the most fun thing they had done so far. 

Their main issue now was maintaining their energy. They could only hold their full body inspell for five seconds maximum, and their hand isolation inspell at maximum effect lasted all of a single second. 

In order to progress further in their magic, they decided that they needed to bump those numbers up.

Currently, what they were doing for "concentration" was just thinking about their body. It seemed that they more they isolated what they were thinking about, the more effective it was.

They thought that clearing their mind, then switching to thinking about their body would help. 

Thinking about what tools they could use to clear their mind, they looked at their fist. 

"What better way to inflict attention into my fist than hit myself with it?"

They got ready to try this method. Their plan was to hit their head with their fist, bringing attention to both their body and their hand.

They slammed their fist into their head, then they tried to use the focus on their pain in order to control their energy. 

It somewhat worked. The affects of the temporary adrenaline gave them a little boost in clearing their mind.

Through that, they were able to focus on their hand, bringing energy into it. 

They weren't able to hold it for any longer, but because of their attention to their fist, they were able to direct energy into it quicker.

"Some progress, it seems I can bring my energy into a fixed point quicker now"

They still wanted to maintain their energy for longer. Thinking back to when they were able to increase previously, they considered what they did.

"I think some of it is just practice, getting used to the feeling of controlling your energy. "

They then decided to spend a while, trying to hold it as long as they could. 

They would concentrate, and attempt to hold their full body inspell for as long as possible. They decided to improve their isolation later.

Some improvement came with time. Their goal was to reach about ten seconds of being able to hold a full body inspell. 

They repeated their practice for a while, reaching a maximum of seven seconds for their inspell time. They were slowly getting better. They couldn't practice for too long though, as their spell thirst would get to them.

While they waited to sleep as to regenerate their energy, they took a look at the scroll, previewing the next technique as to know what to expect after he got a little better inspell. There was only two techniques / images left on the scroll for him to learn. The scroll seemed to be pretty simple, maybe even something for a child to gain a basic understanding of magic.

The step after concentrating the energy in their hand showed the utilization of a wand. The image showed a variety of things that could be used as a wand surrogate. 

It seemed that almost anything can be used as a wand. From the pictures, most of the tools available to use were things that spent a long time in the users hands no matter what. For example, medical tools, swords, books, farming tools, and construction tools.

"I guess I have to think what i'm going to use as my conduit"

They looked around at their supplies, a grin appearing on their face when they decided what they were going to use.

They picked up the trusty rough rock. It had since been forgiven for its inability to open the chest. They contemplated between the rock and the sharpened femur, but they thought that if they ever got out of the dungeon, using a bone as a conduit would not be a good look.

Rock in hand, they slept, anticipating future developments in their magic ability the next day. 

[Rested, magic energy replenished]

The next day, they were ready to work on their inspell more, trying to hold it longer. They started by analyzing the last step on the scroll, showing energy being able to flow out of the conduit. That is what they needed to do, expel the energy into the altar to conduct the ritual.

They were anticipating hard work to learn it, but hopefully whatever the ritual would accomplish would be worth it.
