Chapter 6: Box of tricks
They were temporarily stumped. They had looked at everything in the dungeon, and they didn't know what to do next.
They knew that they had to open the chest, but the didn't exactly know how. It was clear that strength alone couldn't open it.
Thinking back to their history in the dungeon, they remembered when he opened the door to the third room.
It activated the mechanism due to their pose, so they thought that
"Maybe there's something in this room that activates due to my body pose?"
It wasn't the pose of the guy on the wall, because they had already tried that. Thinking to what other things in the dungeon were in a pose, they came up with a couple options.
- The pose of the winged statue
- The pose of the hooded figure forcing subservience to the beast
- The pose of the hooded figure being praised by the poor people
They started with the posed of the winged statue. Assuming the strong pose, they held it for a short while, then checked the chest. No luck.
They then tried the pose of the hooded figure forcing subservience to the beast.
Click
"Im surprised that worked, huh." They thought.
They approached the chest. The clicking noise clearly came from the chest. Thinking that it would now easily open, they casually used their arms to open it.
It definitely was lighter than before, but still not able to be opened with they current strength alone.
"Now, using the femur as a lever should work better, if I really work at it, it should open now." They thought.
Resting for a little, to regain as much strength as they could, they thought about their position.
"I haven't.... had much to eat here. From the knowledge I awoke with, humans need ample food and water for energy. I definitely vomited before... so I have some kind of digestive system, but I must get energy from somewhere else if not from food and water" They thought.
Saving that thought in their mind, they continued their rest.
[rested]
They brought out the femur again, ready for revenge against the chest.
Sticking in the femur to the seam of the chest, they attempted to use it as a lever once again.
They leaned back, using leverage to try to open it.
They were able to open it more this time. It was clearly lighter, and easier to open.
That didn't mean that it would be easy. They used their whole bodies strength, from their legs to their head, all burning due to the immense effort.
It was almost done, at this point they could see the contents inside.
Temporarily ignoring them, they used one last push to get the lid of the chest to fall over the back. The chest was now open.
[Chest has been opened]
They raised their hands in celebration.
"Yes!!!!!!!!!!!" Speaking to themselves for the first time, they were elated to have made progress in the dungeon.
They were excited to see what awaited them in the chest, if it took all of this effort to open it, it must have some pretty decent stuff inside.
There were three things inside the chest.
The first thing was a cloth pouch, it looked like it had some stuff inside of it.
The second thing was what looked like a scroll. It was a large wound up piece of paper, with a wooden stopper at the top and in the center. It looked to be in good condition.
The third thing was a leather notebook. The leather on the outside was in poor shape, looking shoddy. The paper inside looked undamaged. It was relatively short, looking to have about 30 pages inside.

[scroll obtained]
[notebook obtained]
They started by opening the pouch.
Inside, was what looked to them like a collection of tokens, likely some kind of currency.
They then sorted out the coins in order to count them out and assess them.
There were four kinds of coins in the bag, all of them being round, and having smooth round edges. They were of a small-ish size, approximately having the footprint of a quarter of his palm.
The first kind of coin was brown. One one side, the tails side, it had a singular vertical line on it. On the heads side, it depicted two images. The first was of a strange helmet. The design was ornate, having many spikes on the top. It had a triangular faceplate too. The second image was of a metal glove. He had five of these kind.
The second kind of coin was a dark grey. On the tails side, it had a cross on it, similar to a plus sign. On the heads side, like the first kind, it had two images. One was a long headed and long haired woman. Next to the woman was a book. They had four of these.
The third kind was a light, shiny grey one. On the back it had a symbol that looked like an x with a vertical line through it, and on the front it had a picture of a grim soldier with a heavy looking helmet crowned with three prominent spikes. Next to them was a common looking short-sword. They had one of these.
The last kind of coin was made of a shiny black metal. The metal looked of being high quality and shiny. On the back of the coin, it had a picture of a triangle with a vertical line going through it. The picture on the face was of a happy, bearded man with a hood. Next to him was a scythe, but it appeared to be more of a farming kind than one associated with the grim reaper. He had one of these.
However much they were worth was not a major issue to them now, as they had nowhere to spend them. Yet, they took comfort in knowing that they would hopefully be able to purchase some goods if they ever found civilization.
[Coins obtained and counted]
They now decided to start going over the scroll in notebook, as they likely had interesting, but hopefully useful information contained within them.
