Chapter 33: Chapter 32: Tsukuyomi
"Were these Pokémon captured by Team Rocket?"
After dealing with the surrounding grunts, Ash glanced at the panicked Pokémon running around and turned to Suicune, who stood silently in thought.
"Suui!"
Suicune nodded in response. With its elegant posture, flowing violet mane, emerald crest, and shining white-blue fur, it was every bit as majestic as a Legendary Pokémon should be.
"Let's head to the center of the base. I want to know exactly what Team Rocket is up to!"
With Suicune by his side, Ash strode deeper into the base. Light fixtures lined both sides of the cave walls, illuminating the path clearly.
"Doctor Senbelli, that brat and Suicune are advancing! We have to leave now! The boss said we must escape with the research data!"
In the center of the base, several Rocket scientists in white coats turned to a stern-faced doctor.
"No! The genetic enhancement of Tyranitar is 30% complete. We can't abandon it now!"
Senbelli scowled, refusing to give the order to retreat. "Hold off the brat and Suicune—at all costs!"
The reason they had chosen this remote site was precisely because of a particular Tyranitar—massive in size and overwhelming in power, far beyond what wild Tyranitars typically displayed.
From the moment it was a Larvitar, it had devoured precious minerals. The rarer the ore, the greater its strength. Its growth had been nothing short of a money furnace. In this world, minerals were valuable commodities tightly controlled by powerful families.
Most wild Pupitar or Tyranitar couldn't access such resources and had to settle for common rocks. There was even a mountain said to have been entirely consumed by a single Larvitar—its appetite rivaling even that of a Snorlax!
After capturing this Tyranitar, Senbelli had requested permission from Giovanni to conduct violent genetic modification experiments. The "Rage-X Gene" was a cell extracted from ancient ruins—its origin unknown, possibly belonging to a now-extinct Legendary Pokémon.
Almost every Pokémon exposed to the gene had died from incompatibility. Only Tyranitar had shown signs of resonance.
However, this wasn't something a normal Tyranitar could withstand. This one—an exceptional specimen—was chosen as the ideal subject. After injecting it with the Rage-X Gene, it was sedated and placed under continuous monitoring as the experiment progressed.
"So that's what's going on… You Rockets will stop at nothing!"
Just as the Rocket grunts prepared to intercept the intruders, Ash's voice echoed through the room, freezing everyone in place.
He and Suicune had hurried ahead during the commotion and arrived just in time to overhear Senbelli's explanation. Ash couldn't help but feel this day was going better than expected.
Tyranitar—the Despot of the Desert—was an incredibly powerful Pokémon, and one Ash had long admired. Now that a rare one was within reach, how could he possibly pass it up?
And more importantly, he believed he had the strength to tame it!
"Hehehe… Kid, I'll give you a chance. Why not join Team Rocket?"
Senbelli's eyes gleamed with a dangerous curiosity. "With your power, you could rise to the very top. Giovanni himself might even consider it!"
"Join Team Rocket?" Ash's voice turned cold, his expression hardening. "You senile relic… After everything the Rockets have done, there's no way in hell I'd ever join you. Even if Giovanni begged me personally!"
As he spoke, Ash's eyes turned blood-red, the tomoe of the Sharingan spinning menacingly. The sheer intensity of his killing intent caused even the seasoned Rocket personnel to flinch.
"D-Demon…"
Some grunts, overwhelmed by fear, recoiled in horror. Even Suicune beside Ash felt the surge of dark energy radiating from him—it was deadly.
"Attack!!"
Realizing the danger, Senbelli shouted in desperation. Poké Balls flew into the air, summoning a horde of Team Rocket's battle-ready Pokémon in front of Ash and Suicune.
"It's not noble to aid villains. You'll share their fate!"
Ash's Sharingan spun rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, a crimson blaze erupted around him. Two skeletal arms formed out of the fire—part of his partially manifested Susanoo.
This partial form had relatively low chakra consumption, and Ash judged it manageable in this situation. With a single sweeping strike from the flaming skeletal arm, the enemies—both humans and Pokémon—were sent flying.
From the force alone, it was clear these foes were either seriously injured or worse. Death was a real possibility.
"What… what is that?!"
"Help!"
"You're a demon! A real demon!"
"What!!!"
"Let me go! Please—I'll do anything, just let me go!"
"Aaaahhhhhhh!!!"
Ash ignored the Team Rocket grunts. With murder in his eyes and blood splattered across his clothes, he cut down everything around him. In mere moments, the battlefield was cleared—only Senbelli remained.
He stared at Ash, whose face remained terrifyingly calm, despite being covered in blood. In that moment, to Senbelli, the boy no longer looked human. He looked like a god of slaughter.
SLAM!
Just as Senbelli tried to escape, a massive skeletal arm—part of Ash's fiery Susanoo—lashed out and grabbed him, hoisting him effortlessly into the air.
The skeleton hand dragged him up to Ash's face. Senbelli looked at the blood smeared across Ash's cheek and the calm, piercing eyes that glared back at him. Sweat poured down his face. His pupils shrank with fear.
"Your experiments have caused endless suffering. So many Pokémon died because of your cruelty."
Ash's voice was icy.
"Go pray for forgiveness... in hell."
As he spoke, the three tomoe in his Sharingan spun violently, evolving into the shape of a pinwheel—the Mangekyō Sharingan.
In an instant, Senbelli was pulled into the illusionary realm of Tsukuyomi.
The world he found himself in was drenched in red. A vast, blood-soaked landscape stretched endlessly in every direction. Pools of crimson liquid bubbled, steam rising like a fevered breath from the earth.
"What… What is this place…?"
Before he could make sense of it, Pokémon began to emerge from the blood—hundreds, thousands of them. Familiar faces. Horrifyingly familiar.
They were the Pokémon he had tortured. The ones who had perished in his experiments. Their bodies were deformed, broken, twisted by pain and anger. Their eyes glowed with hatred. And they were all coming for him.
"No… no… NOOO!!!"
"Make it stop! KILL ME! JUST KILL ME!!"
Outside the illusion, Suicune stood silently beside Ash. To anyone watching, Ash had only stared coldly at Senbelli. And yet, Senbelli was now writhing on the ground, shrieking like he was experiencing unspeakable torment.
Inside the Tsukuyomi world, the nightmare continued.
Senbelli was torn apart by the Pokémon, devoured piece by piece. The pain was unbearable. He thought death would be a release—until he saw himself reappear, whole once more… and the devouring began again.
Over and over.
For seventy-two hours, his mind was trapped in that crimson nightmare. Every moment was filled with agony, regret, and horror. And yet, in the real world, not even a full second had passed.
But the pain—the terror—that was all real.
Unforgivably real.
