Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Winning Streak
After Fanta shook hands with Victor, he once again carried the baby bear and hurried to the Pokémon Center.
Victor, who had won his first victory, did not leave. Instead, he clicked the matching button again. The battle just now did not consume much of Litten's energy, so playing a few more rounds would not be a problem.
This time, his opponent used a Mightyena in the late normal stage. Mightyena is a Dark-type Pokémon that resembles a wild wolf.
As soon as Mightyena appeared, it growled threateningly at Victor and TORRACAT, its aggressive nature evident. However,TORRACAT , an expert with the Intimidate ability, wasn't fazed at all by Mightyena's display of dominance.
There was no idle chatter between the trainers. Once the Rotom referee announced the start of the battle, both sides launched their attacks simultaneously.
"Mightyena, use Roar!"
"TORRACAT, Scratch!"
"Woooorrr!"
Mightyena opened its large mouth, full of sharp fangs, and let out a deafening roar. Black energy waves radiated outward from Mightyena's center. TORRACAT directly withstood the damage caused by the roar, dashing rapidly across the battlefield on its agile limbs, closing in on Mightyena within moments.
"Meow, meow, meow!"
TORRACAT'S claws extended, charged with Normal-type energy, slashing at Mightyena's head just as it finished its move and had no time to dodge.
"Quick, gain some distance!"
Mightyena, feeling the sting from TORRACAT'S strike, followed its trainer's command and tried to put some space between itself and its opponent. However, Victor wasn't about to let this opportunity slip by.
"TORRACAT, stay on it!"
Litten pursued Mightyena relentlessly, not giving it a chance to escape. Forced into close combat, Mightyena had no choice but to fight TORRACAT head-on.
Both Pokémon clashed with fangs and claws, engaging in a fierce back-and-forth exchange. For a moment, neither seemed to have the upper hand.
Victor, having gauged most of Mightyena's capabilities, decided it was time to change tactics.
"TORRACAT, use Quick Attack on Mightyena's side!"
TORRACAT transformed into a blur of green light, striking Mightyena's vulnerable side with precision.
"What?! A Bug-type move?!"
Mightyena's trainer hadn't expected TORRACAT to know a Bug-type move that would be super effective against Mightyena. The strike left Mightyena reeling, caught completely off guard.
TORRACAT retreated to the far right side of the field after delivering its blow, its body still glowing faintly green. Mightyena, meanwhile, struggled to get back on its feet.
"Stand up, Mightyena! You can do it!"
The trainer's hoarse encouragements seemed to breathe life back into Mightyena. With trembling legs, it finally managed to stand up, though its movements were sluggish. Turning to its trainer, it let out a determined howl as if to say, "I can still fight!"
"Get out of there!"
Before Mightyena could process its trainer's sudden panic, it turned back to face TORRACAT.
"TORRACAT, finish it with Heat Blast!"
TORRACAT released a scorching hurricane from its fiery sac, directly engulfing Mightyena. Unable to endure the heat, Mightyena collapsed, completely losing its ability to battle.
[The Mightyena is unable to battle. The winner is contestant Victor!]
The Rotom referee's announcement echoed across the field. Victor glanced at the man hurriedly carrying Mightyena off for treatment and sighed.
"Why do I feel like the villain here…"
Having won two matches in a row, it was now dinner time. Victor knew the importance of refueling after such exertion. He decided to treat TORRACAT, who had performed brilliantly in both battles, to a luxurious lunch. Naturally, Carbink would join them too.
As they exited Battle Field No. 13, Roman and Tessa, who had been battling in Fields No. 14 and 15 respectively, also emerged.
The three friends exchanged their battle experiences. Victor and Tessa had both won two consecutive matches, while Roman had one win and one loss.
Roman explained that his Swablu had faced a challenging opponent—a Pokémon in the late normal stage—in its first match. Despite his best efforts, Swablu was overwhelmed.
Nonetheless, all three had gained valuable experience from their morning battles.
After enjoying lunch at a Pokémon-themed restaurant, the group took a short break before preparing for their afternoon matches.
