Pokémon: My Mom Is A Gardevoir

Chapter 144: Chapter 144 ⇾ Professor Magnolia's Request

When Cole returned to the villa area, the auction house had already delivered the berry tree roots he had purchased. He went over to examine them carefully.

It was indeed as the auction house had said — these roots still had a chance of surviving, but as for how great that chance was, he shook his head; he couldn't guarantee they would take root.

Oh well, he'd try his best. Whether they lived or died was up to fate!

Next, Cole went to check on little Dunsparce and found it had fallen asleep at the computer desk.

The noise he made when entering seemed to have disturbed it.

Seeing it groggily open its eyes, Cole asked, "How's it going? Any progress?"

Dunsparce shook its head dejectedly.

Cole patted its head, "Then let's call it a day. We'll continue tomorrow, and I'll help too."

Dunsparce nodded gratefully, then obediently followed him to rest.

The next morning, Cole was dreaming he was on a hot date with a supermodel when suddenly she transformed into a sumo wrestler and belly-flopped right onto his chest.

So heavy, so heavy, can't breathe, help...

Cole jerked awake to find Dunsparce excitedly perched on his chest, pressing down so hard he nearly passed out.

So you're the culprit behind my nightmare!

He shoved it off, rubbing his eyes as he sat up, "Early in the morning and you're not sleeping in your room — what are you doing in mine?"

Dunsparce chattered away enthusiastically. As Cole gradually regained his senses, he finally understood what it was saying: it had found clues about its homeland this morning.

"Really?" Cole jumped out of bed, "Let's go take a look right away."

He followed Dunsparce as they raced to the computer room. On the screen was a travel vlog posted online by a netizen, showing scenes from their trip to a town called Turffield.

Dunsparce zoomed in on a corner of one of the frames, revealing a mountain. Dunsparce remembered being dropped into a river near that mountain by a Corviknight.

"So your homeland is near Turffield?" Cole asked excitedly.

Dunsparce nodded repeatedly. Although it wasn't sure if its homeland was near this town, it was definitely near that mountain.

"Great! Then we'll set out for Turffield today!" Cole cheered.

Learning that it was about to return home, Dunsparce couldn't help but cheer along with him.

During breakfast, Cole told Lysandre about his plans to visit Turffield.

After listening, Lysandre said, "Perfect timing. I have some business to discuss with Chairman Rose, so I might stay in Hammerlocke for a few more days. After you return from Turffield, we can head back to Kalos together."

"That's wonderful!" Cole said happily, but then added with confusion, "Do you have business partnerships with Chairman Rose?"

Lysandre shook his head, "Not exactly, but do you know who the behind-the-scenes boss of the auction we attended yesterday was?"

"No way?" Cole stared with wide eyes in surprise.

"Yes, it was him!" Lysandre nodded, "Since he put Porygon up for auction, he might have connections with Dr. Akihabara, who created Porygon."

"You want to collaborate with Dr. Akihabara?" Cole immediately guessed his intention.

"Of course. I believe Porygon has great potential for the future." Lysandre said confidently.

Just then, Cole suddenly suggested, "You've already achieved so much in the communications field. Have you ever thought about developing a communication device that Rotom could possess?"

He knew that Rotom Phones would become very popular in the future Pokémon world, but they hadn't been developed yet.

Hearing his words, Lysandre had a flash of inspiration.

"That's it! Why didn't I think of that? If Rotom can possess home appliances, it should definitely be able to possess communication devices. If successful, it would become a truly intelligent communication device!"

With this thought, he could barely contain his excitement. He needed to turn this idea into reality immediately, so he put down his cutlery and stood up to leave.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Cole called out, "Aren't you going to finish breakfast?"

"No, I've lost my appetite!" Lysandre hurried away.

"It wouldn't hurt to take time to finish breakfast!" Cole shook his head helplessly, "What a workaholic!"

Just then, Lysandre stuck his head back into the dining room, holding onto the door frame, "By the way, if you're going to Turffield, take my aircraft. I'll inform the pilot!"

With that, he vanished again like a gust of wind.

Cole: "..."

After finishing breakfast, Cole went to the backyard garden and recalled his Pokémon that were doing their morning exercises. He then boarded Lysandre's personal aircraft and flew toward Turffield.

Galar's mainland is elongated in shape. Hammerlocke, where they had been staying, was in the northern part, while Turffield, their destination, was in the central region.

The distance between them was moderate — about a day's journey on Lysandre's personal aircraft.

By evening, Cole and Daisy successfully arrived at Turffield airport.

Turffield had a unique topography; the entire town resembled a basin, with terraced fields encircling it, and residents' houses neatly distributed among the layers of terraces.

It was a place with distinctive character — overall, a small town full of pastoral scenery.

Cole didn't disembark from the aircraft. He decided to stay on it during his time in Turffield, since it would be taking him back to Hammerlocke anyway and wouldn't be leaving unless Lysandre called.

That evening, he and Daisy took the aircraft's pilot to find an affordable restaurant in town. After enjoying a hearty meal, they returned to the aircraft early to rest.

The aircraft had rooms, beds, and blankets — perfectly comfortable for a stay of several days.

The next day, Cole was dragged out of bed early by Dunsparce to search for its homeland. They certainly wouldn't find the mountain they had seen in the video at the Turffield airport.

On the western side of Turffield stood a high hill that offered a panoramic view of the entire town — a popular spot for tourists to take photos. Perhaps they could find clues there.

So Cole took Daisy and Dunsparce to visit that hill.

The hill featured an open terrain, unlike the basin-like topography of the rest of Turffield. It was as flat as a prairie, with a large herd of Wooloo and Dubwool leisurely grazing.

However, what caught Cole's attention first was a massive geoglyph on the grassland. It depicted a Dynamaxed Pokémon rampaging under a pitch-black sky, while countless humans fled in panic beneath its feet.

The Pokémon's appearance in the drawing was blurry, making it impossible to identify its exact species. Yet the sense of oppression emanating from the Dynamaxed Pokémon, and the desperation of the fleeing humans, made one feel as if they were actually there!

This geoglyph must be one of Turffield's main attractions!

However, what Cole first noticed was a massive geoglyph on the grassland. It depicted a Dynamaxed Pokémon rampaging under a pitch-black sky, while countless humans fled in panic beneath the Dynamaxed Pokémon's feet.

"Do you know the origin of the Darkest Day?"

Cole and the others turned around to see an elderly lady leaning on a walking stick standing to their left.

Cole recognized her — she was Magnolia, the foremost Pokémon professor in Galar, pioneer of Dynamax phenomenon research, and Sonia's grandmother.

Upon hearing her question, he shook his head.

Magnolia then began explaining to them on her own initiative.

"About twenty thousand years ago, a mysterious Pokémon arrived in Galar via a meteorite. This Pokémon's arrival brought great changes to the region.

About three thousand years ago, that Pokémon attempted to absorb energy from Galar to sustain its life, which ultimately caused the appearance of red light, leading to the Darkest Day phenomenon."

Cole asked, "What was that mysterious Pokémon?"

Actually, he knew it was Eternatus, but since few people knew this information, he pretended not to know to avoid unnecessary trouble.

"That Pokémon is called Eternatus!" Magnolia answered.

"Where is Eternatus now?" Cole asked again.

This time, Magnolia shook her head without answering him.

Since she didn't want to elaborate, Cole didn't press the issue. Instead, he changed the subject, "Professor, are you in Turffield for research?"

Magnolia smiled and said, "So you recognize me!"

She was so famous in Galar that it wasn't surprising someone would recognize her, so she wasn't taken aback that he knew who she was.

"Have you heard about the recent energy plant leak?" Magnolia asked.

Cole nodded. He had not only heard about it — he had experienced it firsthand.

Rose had made multiple public appearances and conducted several emergency crisis management sessions because of this issue.

At this moment, Magnolia suddenly lowered her glasses and scrutinized Cole, her eyes full of confusion.

"Why do you look somewhat familiar to me?"

"We should be meeting for the first time." Cole said.

"Indeed, it is our first meeting. Though I'm old, my memory is still quite good." Magnolia spoke while pondering, then suddenly clapped her hands, "That's it! You're the young man who dealt with the Dynamaxed Alcremie in Wyndon alongside Leon!"

So that was it. Cole had a moment of realization — the video of him battling the Dynamaxed Alcremie with Leon had been uploaded online, and many people must have seen it.

Having recognized his identity, Magnolia suddenly leaned closer and said to him, "Young man, help me with something!"

"Help? I'm afraid I can't." Cole replied, somewhat reluctantly, "I have matters of my own to attend to."

"What matters do you have? Tell me, perhaps I can help." Magnolia said, pushing her glasses up on the bridge of her nose.

So Cole told her about Dunsparce's situation.

After listening, she chuckled and said, "So you're looking for that place! I know where it is. If you help me with something, I'll tell you the location."

"Really?" Cole asked with a doubtful expression.

This old lady was highly respected; surely she wouldn't be the type to fabricate lies just to achieve her goals?

Seeing his doubt, Magnolia immediately put on a stern face and said, "At my age, would I still lie to you?"

"Alright, alright! What kind of help do you need? If I can help, I certainly will." Cole said.

"Since you already know about the energy plant leak, this will be easier to explain. Due to problems at the energy plant, multiple Dynamax energy nodes throughout the region are experiencing energy leaks, causing numerous wild Pokémon bathed in Dynamax energy to undergo Dynamaxing." Magnolia explained, "These wild Dynamaxed Pokémon have caused great distress to residents living nearby."

"So there's a problem near Turffield as well?" Cole asked.

"That's right." Magnolia gave him a look that said "you're a smart young man", then continued, "Turffield's Gym Leader Milo will certainly help resolve this issue, but relying on him alone might be too much pressure."

"So you want me to assist Mr. Milo?"

"Exactly." Magnolia nodded.

"Fine, fine! Consider it my contribution to the League!" After thinking for a moment, Cole nodded in agreement.

Magnolia patted his shoulder with satisfaction, "Good, you're a fine young man!"

As she spoke, she took something out of her pocket and handed it to Cole.

Cole looked at the white wristband Magnolia gave him in surprise, "Is this a Dynamax Band?"

Magnolia nodded and said, "That's right. I'm lending it to you for now. Dynamax battles are possible at the energy leak points. I hope this Dynamax Band will be of help to you."

After receiving the Dynamax Band, Cole thanked her, "Thank you, I'll use it well!"

Magnolia waved her hand dismissively, "It's nothing, it's nothing. After all, I'm the one asking for your help. Time is of the essence — let's go meet Milo!"

With that, she began walking toward the grassland, leaning on her walking stick.

"Where is Mr. Milo?" Cole asked in confusion, "That's not the direction of the Turffield Gym!"

Magnolia replied with a helpless sigh, "If he were at the gym, why would I be here?"

Hearing this, Cole quickly followed her, bringing Daisy and Dunsparce along.

Deep in the grassland, the two finally found Milo, who was rolling around in the grass with a flock of Wooloo.

Cole: "..."

Magnolia: "..."
