Chapter 143: Chapter 143 ⇾ The Little Player Chikorita
Man-made Pokémon!
What a novel concept, and with fewer than twenty such Pokémon in the entire world—what a huge selling point!
Cole didn't have any particular interest in Porygon, but when the research expert Lysandre saw it, his eyes practically lit up.
Soon, the auction for Porygon began. Even without any promotion from Scarlet, the numbers on the big screen jumped so rapidly it made one dizzy.
Porygon's starting price was P$10,000,000, and almost in the blink of an eye, the bidding exceeded P$100,000,000.
This Porygon represented more than just a Pokémon; it was a sensation with not only collection value but also research and development potential.
When the bidding reached P$700,000,000, the numbers on the screen finally began to slow down. By the time it hit P$800,000,000, very few people were still bidding.
At P$900,000,000, even fewer remained, and that's when Lysandre made his first and only move.
"P$1,000,000,000!"
A killing blow!
And just like that, Lysandre acquired the Porygon for P$1,000,000,000.
With that, the grand auction came to an end.
Soon after, auction staff arrived at their door with the items Cole and Lysandre had won.
Cole had purchased three items: The Power Items Set, one Ability Patch, and an S-class Starf Berry tree root.
The training set cost P$15,000,000, the Ability Patch P$2,000,000, and the S-class Starf Berry tree root P$50,000,000. In total, Cole had spent P$67,000,000 at this auction.
If his mother hadn't won some money at the arena, he wouldn't have been able to afford it even if he sold himself!
After checking that the auction items were in order, Daisy promptly paid and immediately put on the Power Lens. They fit perfectly.
Of course, the Power Lens were adjustable in size, and their appearance was quite elegant. When she put them on, they added a touch of intellectual beauty to her look.
Hello, Teacher Daisy!
After admiring her beauty in the full-length mirror in the VIP room for a while, Daisy nodded with satisfaction.
Seeing that his mom had already put on the Power Lens, Cole released his other Pokémon and distributed the remaining training items among them.
Cole gave the Power Belt and Power Band, which can train defensive stats, to his shield-type Pokémon Carbink.
Its body is cone-shaped, so the Power Belt looked a bit funny on it, but it didn't seem to mind. The Power Band, however, looked fine when tied on top of Carbink's head.
This band was quite high-end—its color could be adjusted by pressing a small button at the end, changing to a different color with each press. Cole adjusted the band to match the color of the diamonds on Carbink's body before tying it on its head, and it looked pretty good.
While he was tying the band on Carbink, he suddenly noticed some changes in its appearance.
"Wait, Carbink, when did your eyes turn pink?" Cole asked in surprise.
Normally, its eyes are bright, clear blue, but now he noticed a hint of pink in his Carbink's eyes, right in the center of its pupils.
"Carb?"
Carbink didn't know either and looked at him in confusion.
"Lysandre, Daisy, come help me check. Am I seeing things?" Cole waved to the other two.
The pink glow in Carbink's pupils was very subtle and seemed to flicker, making him wonder if he was hallucinating—the pink seemed to be there one moment and gone the next.
Lysandre and Daisy came over, and after confirmation from both the human and Pokémon, they verified that Cole wasn't seeing things—there really was a barely noticeable pink glow in Carbink's pupils.
Cole excitedly said, "Looks like my efforts these past two years haven't been in vain. Carbink might really have a chance to evolve into Diancie!"
Lysandre, who knew about Cole's agreement to raise Carbink into Diancie, offered his congratulations.
"Congratulations! You've taken another step toward your goal."
"It's still just a small step. We're still far from true success!"
Carbink was also very happy; it too wanted to evolve into the powerful Diancie soon and become the most special Carbink.
Next, Cole gave the Power Bracer to Larvitar. This wristband was adjustable in size, so even though Larvitar's wrists were thin and short, it could still wear it comfortably.
After receiving the wristband, Larvitar, despite being very happy inside, pretended to be nonchalant. It walked around with its tiny hands behind its back, and when it thought no one was looking, would secretly lift its hands to peek at the bracer before quickly hiding them again.
It was an adorable sight. Everyone had actually noticed its little actions, but no one called it out.
Cole gave the Power Anklet to Heliolisk, a Pokémon known for its speed, making it perfect for the item. With the pair of anklets on its legs, adjusted to match its skin color, they were almost unnoticeable unless you looked closely.
Although the Power Anklets didn't look bulky, they were actually quite heavy. Since Heliolisk wasn't a power-type Pokémon, it seemed uncomfortable wearing the two anklets.
With the anklets on, it felt its body become heavy, losing its previous agility. To adapt to this new feeling, it hopped around the VIP room.
At the same time, Cole removed the packaging from the Ability Patch and stuck it on Heliolisk's forehead, which would take some time to take effect.
"Heliolisk, be careful these next few days. Don't rub off the patch on your forehead—it cost several million!"
Hearing his words, Heliolisk nodded while continuing to jump around.
For the last item, the Power Weight, Cole gave it to Chikorita while Brionne watched with hopeful eyes. Chikorita jumped up and down with joy, while Brionne was thunderstruck.
Brionne: ◝(๑꒪່౪̮꒪່๑)◜ Why does everyone get something except me? Some even got two items!! This isn't fair...
It moved to a corner and shut down emotionally.
At this point, Pidove landed beside it and patted it with its wing, saying, "It's okay, it's okay. I didn't get anything either."
Brionne: "How can we be the same? I'm Cole's starter Pokémon, and you're just a little brother."
Pidove: "..."
The Power Weight was a small pack that Cole put on Chikorita's back, making it look a bit odd.
But it didn't matter—Chikorita was happy. It tried to turn its head to see the backpack-like Power Weight on its back, but its neck was too short. So it jumped up and down, completely forgetting about the mirror just a few steps away.
Initially, Cole hadn't noticed Brionne's distress until Daisy secretly nudged him with her elbow.
He then realized that, given Brionne's personality, if everyone got gifts except for it, it would probably sulk for days.
At this moment, Lysandre quietly walked over to him, slipped a Mystic Water necklace into his hand, and nodded toward the self-isolated Brionne in the corner.
His observation skills were truly impressive, and his emotional intelligence was high.
Cole gratefully gave him a thumbs-up: Thanks, good brother!
This Mystic Water was originally bought by Lysandre for his Gyarados, but now he had given it to Cole to help out. Anyway, Mystic Water wasn't a rare held item; most Pokémon supply stores sold them, so he could just buy another one later.
As Cole turned to comfort Brionne, Daisy walked over to Lysandre and silently transferred the money for the Mystic Water to him.
Although a Mystic Water was nothing to this rich guy, they couldn't just take advantage, especially when he had proactively helped out.
Lysandre wasn't fussy about it and readily accepted the transfer.
Cole walked over to Brionne and suddenly took out the Mystic Water.
"Ta-da-da~ Brionne, look what this is?"
Brionne looked at the necklace in his hand—the Mystic Water crafted into a necklace—pausing briefly before breaking into a huge smile.
"Bri~ Brionne~" — Is this for me?
Cole nodded. "Of course! Everyone gets a gift, and so do you. This Mystic Water necklace can boost the power of water-type moves!"
"Bri~ Bri~" — Mmm~ Mmm~ So pretty.
Brionne nodded repeatedly, confident that Cole would never forget about it.
In its excitement, it completely forgot that there had been no Mystic Water among the auction items just delivered by the staff.
Meanwhile, Cole secretly sighed with relief: Luckily I got away with it!
"Pretty, right? Here, let me put it on you." As he spoke, he placed the Mystic Water necklace around Brionne's neck.
The blue water droplet gem complemented its blue skin beautifully.
After putting on the Mystic Water necklace, Brionne quickly ran to the mirror to admire itself from all angles, being incredibly vain.
Not far away, Pidove stood on the table watching this scene with a blank expression: So I'm the only clown here!
Cole quickly gave Pidove an apologetic look.
It fluttered its wings and landed on his shoulder, then heard him say softly, "I'll get you a gift later too."
Pidove was immediately satisfied. Unlike Brionne who liked to fuss over things, it didn't mind if gifts were late or if it wasn't thought of—as long as Cole cared about it and made it up properly, it was content.
The auction ended, and the group prepared to leave. The S-class Starf Tree roots that Cole had purchased would be delivered directly to Lysandre's villa area by the auction house.
However, before he could leave the VIP room, there was another knock at the door.
When Cole opened the door, standing outside were Sara, Kiara, and... James?
Although he looked short and small with his mushroom haircut, Cole immediately recognized this "highly intelligent" and charming villain.
"Cole, Kiara and I came to see you! Surprised? Unexpected?" Sara said with a smile.
Cole replied, "Very surprised, very unexpected!"
Kiara also smiled and said, "Long time no see! Oh, this is my little brother James. He was bored by himself, so I brought him along."
Cole smiled and greeted him, "Hello, James, I'm Kiara's friend. My name is Cole."
James, hugging his Growlithe plush toy, nodded and said, "I know you. I've heard about you from big sister Kiara."
"That's an honor." Cole thought the young boy was quite adorable.
James poked his head into the suite and, looking at the Pokémon inside, asked, "Are all of these your Pokémon?"
Cole nodded, "Yes, do you want to play with them?"
"Yes, yes!" James said as he squeezed through the door gap.
"James!" Kiara wanted to tell him to be more polite, but he was already playing happily with Chikorita, Larvitar, and Pidove.
At this moment, Lysandre walked over, greeted the two girls, and then excused himself to leave. He told Cole to return to the villa area after hanging out with them.
After Lysandre left, Cole invited Sara and Kiara into the suite. The three chatted for a while and then decided to go somewhere else to have fun.
By now, James had completely bonded with the Pokémon, especially Chikorita.
Just as Cole and the others were about to leave, Chikorita suddenly began shaking its head frantically. With a "crack," the leaf on its head fell off…
What a familiar scene…
"Chiko~ Chiko~"
Chikorita pushed the leaf toward James with its foot.
James picked up the leaf with delight, asking, "Is this for me?"
"Chiko~ Chiko~"
Chikorita nodded.
James touched the broken spot on its head where the leaf had been, saying with concern, "But if you give it to me, you won't have one yourself!"
"Chiko~ Chiko~"
Chikorita shook its head. Its face scrunched up as if constipated, straining for a moment. Then its body emitted a white light, and the leaf on its head grew back with a whoosh.
James happily touched the newly grown leaf. "Oh, so it can grow back! Then I'll accept this leaf you gave me. It's proof of our friendship."
He said this with childlike innocence.
As he spoke, James carefully folded the large leaf twice, then solemnly took out a silk handkerchief to wrap it in, and finally placed it carefully into his pocket.
Seeing this, Sara giggled, "Your Chikorita still loves giving gifts to others."
Cole shook his head helplessly.
Afterward, he went out with Sara, Kiara, and James for a while. The whole time, James held onto Chikorita, refusing to let go, and it was equally affectionate with him, making Cole almost jealous.
But whenever Chikorita noticed Cole getting jealous, it would run to his side and act coy. After cheering him up, it would happily go back to playing with James.
Cole: Hmph~ You little heartless thing, I knew you were a little player!
Since Sara and Kiara would be leaving Wyndon with their families tomorrow, and they didn't know when they would meet again, the group played until dark before parting ways.
