Chapter 34: Chapter 34: A Profitable Life and Returning to Pewter Gym
After resting for a while and feeling recovered, Silas recalled his Combusken and set out to submit the three completed missions.
After all, he still had to train his Pokémon in the afternoon there was no room for any slacking.
The final earnings from the missions totaled 220,000 Pokédollars.
Not bad at all. And when adding in the 4.8 million Pokédollars earned from that unexpected Pichu, today's income reached a staggering 5 million!
Was it really just a matter of strength?
As Silas made his way to Viridian Forest for training, he pondered this question.
Setting aside the surprising windfall from Pichu, with today's efficiency and income, if he planned things well, he could consistently earn around 700,000 Pokédollars per day almost as much as he used to make in a whole month!
Thus, while his Pidgeot and Combusken were pushing themselves to complete their training goals in Viridian Forest, Silas sat to the side, carefully planning his schedule for the next four to five days.
His plan was as follows:
4 hours of focused training in the morning, from 6 AM to 10 AM.
Afterward, return to the Pokémon Center to eat, rest, and pick up new missions, aiming to leave by 11 AM.
He expected to return from Mt. Moon or Viridian Forest around 2 PM for a quick break before heading out for another round of missions.
The second mission run would wrap up by 5 PM, followed by dinner and regular training at the Pokémon Center's training grounds.
By 10 PM, he would head back to his room to review the materials given to him by the Pewter Gym before finally going to sleep.
After making several adjustments, Silas realized this was likely his absolute limit.
"However, if I use Pidgeot for travel, I could save nearly half an hour per trip."
He stroked his chin, considering it.
That extra 30 minutes could prevent the mission schedule from running too long, ensure proper rest, or even provide more time for training.
It seemed like a worthwhile trade-off.
Silas figured that overcoming his lingering fear of flying would be a small price to pay for these advantages.
After all, he would have to get used to flying sooner or later better now than later.
Thus, from the next day onward, Silas began using Pidgeot as his primary mode of transportation, officially settling into his high-efficiency, four-stop routine:
Viridian Forest ,Mt. Moon ,Pokémon Center, Bounty Hunter Center.
Oh, wait there was also the Black Market.
After all, even Pokémon at the Advance level, despite lacking special talents, could still be sold for a decent price.
While encountering wild Advance-level Pokémon wasn't common, he had come across quite a few over the past five days and sold them all at the Black Market's acquisition point.
Five Days Later
With his scheduled meeting with Brock set for the afternoon, Silas decided to finally take a rare day off both for himself and his Pokémon.
Lying on the sofa in his room, he carefully calculated his earnings from the past few days.
Excluding the first day, over the next four days, he had completed:
12 C-rank missions, earning 780,000 Pokédollars.
4 B-rank missions, earning 1 million Pokédollars.
Captured and sold four Advance-level Pokémon for 4.2 million Pokédollars.
In total, over five days, he had earned 11 million Pokédollars!
Even after deducting nearly 1 million Pokédollars for various expenses, he still had a net profit of 10 million Pokédollars.
Silas was momentarily stunned.
That amount was already close to one-fourth the price of a Fire Stone!
Thinking about it, though, this wasn't entirely unreasonable.
His high earnings were due to several key factors things an average Trainer simply couldn't replicate.
First, his VIP privileges at the Pokémon Center saved him a ton of time.
He didn't have to wait in line, spend time waiting for treatments, or pay for healing fees without this, his efficiency would have been significantly lower, and his expenses much higher.
Second, these privileges also upgraded his Bounty Hunter rank, allowing him to take on more missions simultaneously.
Normally, before reaching B-rank as a Bounty Hunter, one couldn't take on multiple C-rank missions at once.
If that restriction had applied to him, his efficiency would have dropped by half after all, B-rank missions weren't as common, so he couldn't just pick them up whenever he wanted.
Second, while his earnings seemed substantial, nearly half of them came from Pichu's lucky streak. Luck wasn't something he could rely on as a consistent source of income.
Third, and most importantly, Silas had Zero, which allowed him to accurately assess the levels of wild Pokémon.
This was an incredibly significant advantage. Normally, trainers in the wild couldn't accurately gauge a Pokémon's strength without specialized equipment.
As a result, most trainers avoided direct encounters and battles with wild Pokémon unless absolutely necessary either because they had no choice or because they were hunting a specific target.
After all, if they misjudged and ended up in a losing battle or sustained injuries, it could threaten their safety and survival in the wilderness.
Silas, however, didn't have these concerns. He could always ensure that battles were advantageous for him, maximizing his gains.
The four Pokémon he had defeated each roughly at the entry-level of the Advance tier were proof of that.
Without his ability to assess them, he would have had to avoid unnecessary encounters, meaning that just finding a mission target could take over ten days, even if luck was on his side.
After all, if the target Pokémon's species had a large group or was too strong for him to handle, he wouldn't be able to complete the mission and would have to abandon it to find another one.
Lastly, Silas himself had grown much stronger. With Combusken and Pidgeot by his side, he could handle most Advance-tier Pokémon at least within Viridian Forest.
Mount Moon, however, was a different case. The terrain there made things more difficult for Pidgeot.
All of these factors combined allowed Silas to earn such an impressive amount of money.
If any other trainer of the same strength followed the same training intensity and battle strategy, they would have only made around 100,000 Pokédollars in these five days if they were lucky.
But in general, this kind of approach wasn't sustainable. Silas himself realized he had been pushing too hard.
Constant training and battling with minimal rest took a toll on him. His body was getting exhausted, and his Pokémon, too, showed visible signs of fatigue. Their performance had started to decline.
A balanced schedule training one day and taking on missions the next would be more sustainable. The slight reduction in income was worth it for the long-term benefits.
With this new plan, staying in each city for about a month meant he could challenge all eight Gyms in eight months, leaving another month for focused training. That would allow him to make it to the Indigo Plateau Conference on time.
His core team's development would also speed up considerably.
Silas had initially underestimated his Pokémon's growth rate.
Pidgeot, for example, had reached a level where further progress was significantly harder, showing almost no improvement over the past four days.
On the other hand, Combusken had leveled up once more through constant battles and training, reaching level 27.
At this rate, by the time he left Pewter City, Combusken might even break into the Advance tier.
Ding!
The alert from his Pokégear interrupted his thoughts.
He glanced at the screen. It was a message from Brock, asking if he had left yet.
Checking the time, he realized he had only half an hour left. Quickly, he grabbed his gear and set off being late wasn't an option.
He sent Brock a reply: On my way now.
Then, he ran toward Pewter Gym.
By the time he arrived, Brock was already waiting for him at the entrance.
"Sorry, sorry, I'm late," Silas apologized, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"You're not late. There's still some time left. I was just being impatient," Brock replied with a friendly smile.
"Since you're here, let's head inside. First, I want to check on my Geodude. Then we'll talk about the things I have for you."
Silas nodded and followed Brock into the Gym.
