Pokemon: Bounty Hunter

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Misfortunes Never Come Alone

Silas was currently in the outer regions of Mt. Moon, where the wild Pokémon were mostly beginner or Standard-level.

Only a few Pokémon reached the Advance level, and the deeper one ventured, the stronger the wild Pokémon became.

A Rhydon was an exceptionally powerful Pokémon.

Normally, a Rhyhorn wouldn't evolve into a Rhydon until around level 40, depending on individual differences.

Judging by its appearance, this Rhydon was not newly evolved, meaning it was at least level 45.

In this narrow space, releasing Pidgeot was impossible.

Even if he could release Pidgeot, the Flying-type disadvantage meant that no matter how good its potential was, it wouldn't stand a chance against Rhydon.

Blaziken's Fighting-type moves did provide some advantage, but a close-quarters battle would be a disaster.

The size and weight difference was simply too overwhelming.

Combined with the level gap, even exceptional talent couldn't make up for the sheer power disparity.

After weaving through the tunnels for nearly twenty minutes, Silas finally relaxed when he could no longer hear any sounds from the Rhydon.

"Damn it… I can't believe I ran into such a strong Rhydon in the outer regions of Mt. Moon."

"Good thing I sent the drone ahead to scout, or I'd be dead by now."

Thinking about his drone, which was instantly destroyed when the Rhydon hurled a massive boulder at it with Rock Slide, Silas felt a pang of pain.

Even though the drone wasn't expensive, every bit counted.

Fortunately, as long as his navigation device was intact, he could exchange the wreckage for a new drone at Devon Corp.

But there was no way in hell he was going back to retrieve the wreckage.

He'd just have to spend money on a new one.

A scouting drone was essential if he had walked in without checking, he'd be nothing but a smear of blood and shattered bones by now.

Checking his current location, Silas confirmed that he hadn't accidentally run deeper into Mt. Moon while escaping.

He had actually moved slightly closer to the outer areas, which was a relief.

Finding a side tunnel, he resumed his mission.

At one of Mt. Moon's cave exits, a dust-covered young man staggered out, panting heavily.

His clothes were torn, and his body was covered in fine rock dust.

Behind him, a slightly injured and exhausted Combusken followed closely.

Without bothering to clean himself up, the man pulled out a Luxury Ball.

"Pidgeot, get me out of here."

A flash of red light, and Pidgeot appeared on the ground.

Silas secured himself on Pidgeot's back, recalled Combusken, and then Pidgeot took off toward Pewter City at high speed.

Below, a few wild Pokémon that had just emerged from the cave watched him fly away from a distance.

"Not so high, lower the altitude a bit!"

Silas sounded nervous.

Yes, the dust-covered young man who had just fled the cave in a panic was none other than our protagonist.

Once he reached the outskirts of Pewter City, far from the cave's entrance, Silas finally let Pidgeot land.

The moment he touched the ground, his legs felt weak after all, flying at high altitudes was terrifying.

If it weren't for the need to escape those wild Pokémon, he would never have chosen this method to flee.

After unstrapping his exploration gear from Pidgeot, he recalled it into its Poké Ball.

Dusting himself off, Silas hurried toward the Pokémon Center.

He handed Combusken over to Nurse Joy for treatment before heading to his room for a hot shower.

Now clean and refreshed, the handsome young man finally saw his proper self in the mirror again.

Letting out a deep breath, Silas truly relaxed for the first time.

Thinking back to his experience in Mt. Moon, he couldn't help but sigh.

"Damn, misfortunes really never come alone."

"But I caught a Pichu earlier, which should mean my luck isn't bad… So why did everything start going downhill this afternoon?"

Feeling puzzled, Silas lay down on the bed, eager to rest.

After all, he had been running for over an hour, nearly exhausting himself to death.

Right after escaping the Rhydon, Silas and Combusken continued exploring Mt. Moon.

For the next hour, they easily encountered and defeated three Paras and small group of Sandshrew led by a Sandslash with that, three more tasks were completed.

However, it was still early just past noon.

Silas figured, "Since my luck has been pretty good, let's explore a bit more. Who knows, I might find something valuable."

After all, I already avoided Rhydon, and that thing was probably the strongest Pokémon in the outer areas. As long as I stay cautious, everything should be fine.

But of course, things didn't go as planned.

Mt. Moon was massive, with many different Pokémon species.

Thanks to the Moon Stone's mysterious energy, it wasn't just rare Pokémon like Clefairy that were drawn to the area other species that evolved using Moon Stones were also attracted.

Among them were Nidoking and Nidoqueen.

Normally, this wasn't an issue.

After all, Nidoking and Nidoqueen typically lived in the deeper areas of Mt. Moon.

While Nidoran and Nidoran evolved into Nidorino and Nidorina fairly early, they couldn't evolve into their final forms without a Moon Stone.

Since Moon Stones only appeared in the deeper parts of Mt. Moon, Nidoking and Nidoqueen shouldn't have been in the outer areas.

It was believed that the Moon Stones were remnants of a meteorite impact and since the meteorite had landed in the mountain's core, the outer regions were completely devoid of them.

Besides, Nidoking and Nidoqueen were usually found in pairs, which meant very few people ever saw them in the outer regions.

But of course, Silas had to be the unlucky exception.

As soon as he stepped into a cave, he saw a Nidoking and a Nidoqueen… being affectionate.

At that moment, his entire mind shut down in horror.

He immediately turned around and ran with Combusken.

The Nidoking and Nidoqueen realized they had been spotted, flew into a rage, and furiously chased after him.

As for the idea of letting Combusken fight them?

That would have been suicidal.

Because those two weren't interested in a fair fight.

At first, Silas thought they might only be around level 30, meaning Combusken could handle a two-on-one battle.

But then he realized they had backup.

A level 30+ Nidoking and Nidoqueen in the outer region?

Of course, they had a whole gang of underlings.

They were leading an army of Pokémon, including: Zubat ,Geodude, Magnemite, Sandshrew

Individually, these Pokémon weren't a threat.

But together? A swarm of them could overwhelm even a strong fighter.

Imagine being chased by an entire army of wild Pokémon turning around to fight? That would be pure suicide.

Realizing how bad the situation was, Silas and Combusken immediately ran for their lives.

Thankfully, Mt. Moon's complex terrain gave them some advantages.

Most of the chasing Pokémon were slow, and even the faster ones were slowed down by their allies.

Combusken occasionally stopped to fight, buying more time to escape.

Otherwise, Silas might have had to run for another full hour until he collapsed from exhaustion.

Finally, after creating enough distance, he found a tunnel leading outside and escaped.

That led to the scene where he fled the cave entrance and took off on Pidgeot.

Silas wasn't sure if he should call this good luck or bad luck.

The Rhydon incident was one thing, But Nidoking and Nidoqueen?

Even if they only had Advance-level potential, they were extremely valuable on the black market.

Thinking about it, Silas smirked and pulled out his navigator, marking the cave's location.

"Revenge can wait ten years if necessary."

Silas clenched his fist in determination.

"Today, they chased me… But once Combusken evolves, I'll be the one hunting them down."

"I'll catch them and sell them for a fortune!"
