Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Make It A Signboard Of Tarvok City!
Cough!
"You mean... a call from the city government office? Secretary Elijah wants to visit our company?"
Ethan nearly choked on his tea as he processed Annie's report. It had only been three days since the exhibition, yet Mr. Bill from the city government had already taken notice, sending one of his top aides directly to Pokémon Biotech.
He had anticipated government attention eventually, but this felt almost surreal.
"Yes, they asked if tomorrow morning would work," Annie replied, eyes gleaming with excitement.
Ethan could sense her pride, it was hard to miss. The company had transformed rapidly, and now even top officials were reaching out.
"That's fine. Confirm the appointment," he replied after a moment. "Also, let everyone know so they can prepare. We want the place spotless and running smoothly."
"Understood!"
Annie turned to leave but hesitated, looking back. "Mr. Grave, should we put up a welcome banner or decorations?"
Ethan waved it off. "No need. Mr. Bill and his team aren't impressed by flashy gestures, and Secretary Elijah's known for keeping things practical. Let's keep it professional. Our work should speak for itself."
Annie blinked, a little surprised but trusting his judgment. "Alright, as you say, Mr. Grave."
She spread the word promptly, rallying the team. "Everyone, Secretary Elijah will be visiting tomorrow. Please tidy up your workspaces and prepare!"
The employees looked at her curiously. Someone finally asked, "Secretary Elijah? Who's that?"
Annie's eyes sparkled. "You should really watch the news! Secretary Elijah is Mr. Bill's top aide, basically the right hand of Tarvok City's government."
There was a murmur of awe as realization dawned on them.
"Wait, the Chief's secretary? Visiting us?"
"That's right," Annie replied with a proud smile. "They'll be here tomorrow, so let's make sure we're at our best."
The employees exchanged stunned glances. Pokémon Biotechnology was still considered a small player, yet it had already attracted the attention of Yunhai City's highest officials. Many medium-sized companies hadn't earned such recognition.
"Mr. Grave is something else!" one of them murmured.
"Yeah, it's all thanks to his leadership. I heard our company's valuation is climbing fast."
"Valuation? You should see the inbox! It's packed with inquiries, and calls are nonstop. Companies from all over the world want to work with us!"
"Even Senno Biotech, the world's largest biotech company, sent us an email," another employee whispered, almost in disbelief.
One by one, they marveled at the company's transformation, a new pride shining in their eyes. Ethan, once quietly doubted, had won them over entirely.
---
The next day, just before 10 a.m., Ethan was seated at his desk, sharply dressed and focused on his work. A light commotion sounded outside his office, followed by approaching footsteps.
Annie appeared at the doorway, looking both excited and slightly flustered.
"Mr. Grave," she began, "Secretary Elijah is here."
Beside her stood a tall, straight-backed man with a calm intensity in his gaze.
Secretary Elijah had arrived quietly, without any fanfare, merely checking in at reception before heading directly to Ethan's office.
Secretary Elijah surveyed Ethan, a smile softening his features. "Mr. Grave, young and already so accomplished..."
Ethan rose, surprised by the early arrival but catching on quickly with a subtle nod from Annie. He extended a warm smile, maintaining a composed demeanor. "Secretary Elijah, it's an honor."
They shook hands, and Ethan added with a touch of humility, "I wasn't expecting you so early, I got a bit absorbed in work."
"No need to apologize," Secretary Elijah replied, chuckling. "It's good to see such dedication. I arrived a little ahead of schedule to surprise you. I finished my morning tasks early and was eager to see this place myself."
"Me?" Ethan echoed, genuinely surprised.
"Yes, you, Mr. Grave. There's been quite a buzz around you recently, and even our senior officials are interested in what Pokémon Biotechnology is achieving."
After a few more pleasantries, Ethan led Secretary Elijah on a tour around the company. The employees, though maintaining a professional demeanor, sat a little straighter and couldn't help but sneak glances, comparing the real Secretary Elijah to the man they'd seen on TV.
Secretary Elijah expressed interest in the laboratory, and Ethan offered to accompany him there personally.
They rode together in Secretary Elijah's car, his driver behind the wheel, while Ethan and Secretary Elijah shared the back seat.
As they drove, Secretary Elijah turned to Ethan with a question. "Mr. Grave, do you know which city in the Alverez Kingdom was the first to propose aligning with the international community on establishing a new biological evaluation and supervision agency?"
Ethan searched his memory, unsure, and finally ventured, "Tarvok City?"
"Correct," Secretary Elijah replied, nodding with a hint of pride. "Tarvok City led the way, pushing for alignment with global standards. That's why we now have Alverez Kingdom's evaluation agency. But despite our efforts, we've had only a handful of small biotech companies, none that truly stood out."
He paused, then added, "Mr. Bill has high hopes for Pokémon Biotechnology. He envisions you leading Tarvok City's future in biotech, making it our flagship. He's even been discussing potential support policies with me these past few days."
Ethan felt a surge of excitement, though he kept his expression controlled. "Pokémon Biotechnology is grateful for Tarvok City's support. We'll do our best to meet those expectations."
Secretary Elijah nodded approvingly. "Yes, Mr. Grave. Keep it up. We're eager to see what Pokémon Biotechnology can achieve."
