Jerry's hands clenched as he read the latest news on Ethan, the headlines glaring mockingly from his laptop screen. With a surge of rage, he slammed it shut.

Snap!

The laptop shattered, fragments scattering across the table.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it, Fuck!" Jerry cursed, his fury boiling over.

Lina, seated beside him, observed silently. Ever since last night, Jerry had been in a relentless rage, lashing out even at her.

"Huff—" Jerry took a deep breath, muttering, "Lina, do you think Ethan has some secret backer? There's no way he's that talented. I knew him back in college."

He sneered, recalling their past. "All he ever did was skip classes, sing karaoke, and hit nightclubs. There's no way he's capable of designing something like Pichu."

"And now he's claiming he's creating another species?" he scoffed, bitterness rising in his voice. The memory of his past victory resurfaced.

Years ago, he'd humiliated Ethan, swooping in after the death of Ethan's influential grandfather. Jerry had manipulated Ethan, using friendship to gain his trust, ultimately seizing control of his assets. He'd thought Ethan was buried underfoot for good.

But now, Ethan wasn't just back, he was soaring.

Suddenly, a thought struck him. "Lina, if we got our hands on a Pichu, could you analyze its genes?"

Lina's eyes widened, alarmed. "Jerry, don't even think about it. That's asking for ruin! With the Genetic Organisms Protection Law and the Genetic Organisms Use Law tightening every year, there's no way around it. If we're caught, it's over."

These international treaties, universally enforced, granted registered genetic organisms ironclad protections. Unauthorized research on another company's organism was more than just risky, it could devastate any company foolish enough to try. Penalties included staggering fines, and years if not a lifetime of imprisonment.

Lina continued, "Nowadays, every biotech company is part of the New Century Biological Union, working as watchdogs. No one dares to violate these laws. Even a rumor online could lead to a full investigation, lawsuits, and a destroyed reputation."

Jerry sighed, rubbing his temples. "Yeah, things aren't like they used to be." He shook his head. "And even if we could get one, it'd be locked up genetically. That technology is practically unbreakable now. The team behind Pichu would've seen to that."

Lina nodded. "Exactly. Even the leading companies abroad wouldn't dare attempt it. The security on these designs is airtight."

"Sigh," Jerry exhaled, letting go of the fantasy. It was impossible and he knew it. The most he'd dared recently was coaxing a few employees to leave Ethan's company.

His phone buzzed, interrupting his thoughts. Glancing at the screen, he saw it was Secretary Sloan, assistant to Charles Sullivan, one of Ciguli Biotech's main investors.

He answered quickly. "Secretary Sloan?"

"Mr. Sullivan wants to know," he said briskly, "what you think Pokémon Biotechnology is worth."

Its worth? Jerry's heart skipped a beat. "Does Mr. Huang want to invest, or…?"

"He's considering a full acquisition. What price would it take?"

Jerry hesitated, suppressing a surge of excitement. "Honestly, I think a full acquisition might be overkill. Acquiring just the technology could be more practical… though I don't have exact figures."

"Then I can't rely on you." With that, Secretary Sloan hung up, leaving Jerry in frustrated silence.

For the next three days, the New Century Pet Show kept Pokémon Biotechnology in the spotlight.

On the first day, they took the crowd by storm.

The second day was even bigger, with attendees crowding the exhibit. By the third, they were the undisputed highlight, attracting national and international acclaim.

After the show, Ethan returned to a whirlwind of activity. Thanks to the exhibition's success, Pokémon Biotechnology had caught the attention of numerous businesses.

Some companies wanted to buy Ethan's technology outright, others offered investments, and several sought distribution rights. The company had suddenly become a hot commodity, with offers flooding in from prominent global corporations.

Ethan instructed his staff to deliver a standard response to companies seeking to purchase his technology: "We have no intention of selling our technology at the moment." Each technology was integrated into the Pokedex system, making it inseparable from their core product.

The company also received multiple media interview requests, and resumes poured in, with dozens of applications arriving daily. Ethan raised the hiring standards, leaving the initial screenings to HR while he handled the final decisions.

While much of this was expected, one surprise he hadn't anticipated…
