Pokémon: A Trainer Who Masters the Six Powers from the Start

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Place Your Bets

The registration for the tournament had officially closed, and Ron easily accessed the betting chart arranged by Silph Co.

Unfortunately, betting could only begin once the competition reached the final 64 trainers. For now, this chart was simply a preparation.

This alone demonstrated the sheer power and influence of Silph Co.

Although the Pokémon League didn't explicitly prohibit betting on battles, most of it happened discreetly. Rarely would a company like Silph Co. openly bring it into the spotlight.

Seeing this, Ron began to formulate a plan.

Like the previous tournament in Cerulean City, this event also operated on a one-Pokémon battle format. However, with Silph Co.'s immense resources, they guaranteed that every participant's Pokémon would recover to peak condition in the shortest possible time.

Ron could understand the reasoning behind the one-Pokémon battle rule.

After all, with the prestige of the Master Ball and the bustling Saffron City as the host location, the number of participants was overwhelming.

Even if they implemented two-Pokémon battles, the duration of the tournament would double.

An excessively long tournament would deter trainers who were eager to continue their journeys and might also exhaust the audience's interest. To prevent this, Silph Co. designed the one-Pokémon battle rule.

Ron's plan was straightforward: stay low-key in the early stages, defeating opponents with slightly superior strength to gradually advance.

Once he reached the top 64, his odds in the betting pool would likely skyrocket.

With this in mind, Ron decided to take a gamble. He would convert all his League Contribution Points and Guild Credits into League coins.

After making a fortune, he would then exchange the League coins back into Contribution Points.

The exchange rate for Contribution Points and League coins was 1:1000. However, converting League coins back required a rate of 1200:1.

This system was designed to ensure that trainers focused on completing tasks for the League rather than obsessing over earning money, while also preventing trainers from neglecting League missions in pursuit of wealth.

Without hesitation, Ron quickly converted his Contribution Points and Credits into League coins.

Thanks to the numerous tasks he'd completed, Ron now possessed 2,900 Contribution Points. After the exchange, he held over 13 million League coins.

Though most of it came from Werner's contributions, the staggering amount still shocked Ron.

The only downside was that even this massive sum wasn't enough to purchase a high-quality Life Orb, illustrating how expensive it was to raise Pokémon.

The efficiency of the League's Hunter Guild was impressive. By the afternoon, Ron's League coins had been deposited into two bank cards delivered to him.

Now, all Ron had to do was train and prepare for the tournament while waiting for it to begin. His plan was simple: keep a low profile until the finals and walk away with a hefty profit.

After days of patient waiting, the long-anticipated tournament finally began.

At Silph Co.'s designated venue, Ron was promptly guided inside by staff members.

Entering a private room prepared specifically for him, Ron marveled at Silph Co.'s extravagance. They had dedicated an entire building just for the tournament.

As explained by the staff, participants were advised to stay in the building until the tournament concluded. Silph Co. would provide 24-hour services to ensure their well-being.

Rest assured, the night staff would consist only of men to prevent any distractions for the trainers.

This arrangement was designed to prevent participants from being threatened by bettors or coerced into deliberately losing matches.

Having years of experience hosting such events, Silph Co. handled these matters with exceptional expertise.

Naturally, staying at Silph Co. didn't prevent Ron from placing bets. However, he could only bet on his own victory, and only after making it to the final 64.

Examining his room carefully, Ron concluded he'd likely be staying here for a few days. His priority was ensuring there were no surveillance devices installed.

With his Ralts' psychic abilities, the sweep was much faster than doing it himself.

After a quick two-minute scan of the room, Ron lounged on the sofa, feeling bored.

In front of him was a television, which could either display regular programs or be used to watch specific battles by entering a match code. This feature allowed participants to study their potential opponents.

However, since no battles had begun yet, and unless the matches involved his future opponents, Ron wasn't inclined to waste time watching others.

After a tedious morning, Ron's first match finally began in the early afternoon. This delay alone highlighted how many participants were involved in Silph Co.'s tournament.

To warm up the crowd, Silph Co. chose not to hold preliminary rounds, meaning matches would likely be spaced out significantly.

Entering the battle arena prepared by Silph Co., Ron noticed the standard setup aimed at ensuring fairness. His first opponent was a delicate-looking young girl.

"Machamp, it's your turn. Remember to hold back. Wait for my signal before finishing her off," Ron instructed.

Machamp nodded solemnly, walking towards the arena with an air of determination.

Since following Ron, Machamp's most convincing "acting" had been during the Cerulean City preliminaries, where it avoided attacking. However, this was its first time feigning weakness during a battle.

While Ron and Machamp remained relaxed, the girl, Yuzu, nervously released her Blastoise.

Seeing her choice of Pokémon, Ron felt confident. At the very least, Blastoise's sturdy shell would ensure Machamp could put on a good show for a while.

"Blastoise, use Hydro Cannon!"

As one of Kanto's starter Pokémon, Blastoise not only had the potential to wield the rare Aura abilities but also became a powerful artillery unit after evolution.

The only concern for Ron was whether this Blastoise possessed Aura abilities. If it did, even with a convincing performance, his odds might not rise significantly.

"Machamp, charge!"

Despite his concerns, Ron issued the command without hesitation.

To make Machamp appear weaker, Ron decided it would approach Blastoise cautiously, using a variety of tactics before taking advantage of close combat to secure victory.

With the script ready and Machamp cast as the protagonist, it was up to Blastoise to play its role as the antagonist.

"Blastoise, combine Hydro Cannon with Water Gun to block its approach!"

Unaware of Ron's intentions, Yuzu fell perfectly into his plan, following his script without realizing it.
