Chapter 47: Chapter 47: The Clouds of a Broken Promise
Chapter 47: The Clouds of a Broken Promise
An unknown sea in the East Blue.
On the deck of the Red Force.
As the time for their rendezvous approached, the members of the Red Hair Pirates, though smiling, had a look of conflict and worry in their eyes. They all focused their gazes on Shanks, who stood by the railing wearing a black cape and his straw hat.
After a moment, Lucky Roux, with his slightly chubby build and green clothes, took a bite of the large bone-in meat shank in his hand and asked in a muffled voice, "Boss, if Uta doesn't want to travel with Louis and the others, are we taking her with us to the New World?"
Shanks turned his head and gave his crewmate his usual undignified smile. "Then we'll take her with us and protect her with our lives. Uta is our daughter, we can't just leave her all alone, can we?"
Hearing this answer, the crew breathed a sigh of relief, but then, the worry in their hearts grew even heavier.
Shanks saw the concern on his crewmates' faces and then revealed a meaningful smile. "I say, are you all underestimating the bond between Uta, Louis, and Yelena?"
"In these past two years, the friendship between Uta and them has become just as strong as her friendship with us!"
This statement immediately drew dissatisfaction from Lucky Roux and the others. "What was that? That's not what you said a moment ago!"
"That's right, that's right!"
Just then, Yasopp, standing in the crow's nest, lowered his telescope, his expression grave. He didn't hesitate, immediately leaning over and shouting down to the deck, "Boss, we've got big trouble!"
The sudden shout brought the deck to a standstill. Everyone instinctively looked up toward the crow's nest. Yasopp pointed grimly to the southeast and shouted a warning, "A dog-headed warship! It's Garp!"
"Garp?!" The crew cried out in shock.
Shanks immediately walked to the other side of the deck, took the telescope that Beckman threw to him, and looked into the distance with a heavy expression. At the edge of the horizon, a massive warship was cutting through the waves, heading straight for the Red Force.
Shanks slowly lowered the telescope, frowning as he muttered to himself, "This is trouble..."
On the other side, on the deck of the large warship.
A soldier in a Marine uniform, holding a flintlock, also ran with a grave expression to a deck chair under a parasol. He quickly saluted and then swiftly reported the situation to the middle-aged man who was fast asleep with a snot bubble on his nose.
"Reporting, Vice Admiral Garp!"
"We have confirmed the identity of the pirate crew ahead! Based on their flag, they are the extremely vicious pirates who destroyed the Jacob Kingdom two years ago, the Red Hair Pirates!"
Pop...
As his voice fell, the snot bubble on the nose of the resolute, graying middle-aged man instantly burst. "The Red Hair Pirates?" The burly, bear-like man slowly opened his drowsy eyes. He got up from the deck chair, stretched slowly, and then said with a yawn, "That apprentice from Roger's ship?"
"Even though Nathan and those soldiers were annoying, the citizens were innocent. In the end, did he show his fangs after all? Back then, even Roger only destroyed their army..."
Marine Hero Garp's profound gaze fell on the sailing ship at the edge of his vision, and his face grew cold. "Bring out the cannonballs."
"Yes, sir!" The soldier ran off after receiving the order.
Soon, cart after cart of cannonballs was pushed to Garp's side. Garp casually picked up a black cannonball, tossing it in his hand to get a feel for it. Then, he twisted his waist and threw the cannonball straight out.
SWOOSH...
The cannonball tore through the sound barrier in an instant and, with a piercing whistle, flew straight toward the Red Force.
A brilliant slash flashed, shattering the incoming cannonball in mid-air.
Seeing this, the corners of Garp's mouth turned up in a heroic smile. He then proceeded to pick up cannonball after cannonball, throwing them at the Red Force.
A short while later, Garp's adjutant walked out of the cabin with a stack of papers and came to his side. "Vice Admiral Garp, Fleet Admiral Sengoku wants us to confirm if there is a figure of the Oni race on Red-Haired Shanks's ship."
"The Oni race? Why confirm that?" Garp didn't turn his head, continuing to throw cannonballs into the distance.
Bogard heard him, and his usually calm face gradually became filled with disbelief. It was clear that this news had shocked him as well. "Fleet Admiral Sengoku said that seventeen years ago, a princess from Canaan went to the New World. After she returned, she gave birth to an infant with the blood of the Oni. That person has been making a name for herself outside the walls of Jacob in recent years."
"Canaan... a princess..." Garp's body froze, his throwing motion stopping. A look of guilt and pain appeared on his face. He remembered the young girl who had run to Marine Headquarters seeking help, only to be nearly assassinated and forced to flee.
After a long moment, he regained his composure and continued to mechanically hurl cannonballs like a meteor shower. "What does that have to do with the Oni race?"
Bogard straightened up and said with a grave expression, "After the World Government learned of this, they dispatched agents to follow the princess's route. It seems they made an incredible discovery. Shortly after, the Five Elders dispatched a CP0 agent, Vice Admiral Gummir, and five Rear Admirals to capture her."
"In the end, the CP0 agent and the retired Vice Admiral Nathan were killed a few days before the destruction of the Jacob Kingdom. There were no witnesses. Vice Admiral Gummir was forced to retreat by the Red Hair Pirates, and the Oni's whereabouts are unknown."
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku said that, if possible, we should capture that Oni. The World Government and the Marines might be able to plan a major incident with her..."
Bogard slowly put down the report, his eyes filled with disbelief. Opposite him, Garp had stopped throwing cannonballs at some point, his eyes filled with a painful memory.
"What happened to that princess in the end?"
Bogard flipped down a few pages, then frowned and replied, "According to the report from a survivor of that transport mission, the last princess of Canaan snuck onto a prison ship over a decade ago. After stealing the key to the Seastone shackles, she was shot and killed in front of the cells. Death confirmed..."
The Kingdom of Elegia.
It was a world-renowned kingdom of music. It was home to numerous professional musicians, musical instruments, and most of the world's musical scores. Everyone in Elegia, from the king down to the common people, had a deep interest in music. To improve the musical level of the populace, the king had even decreed the establishment of a music academy that taught only music.
On the wide, bustling streets, Louis and his group walked aimlessly. Due to Louis's near-perfect face and angel-like wings, he attracted the attention of many young women. Every time Louis turned his head, many of them would misunderstand, shyly looking away, clamping their legs together, not daring to meet his gaze.
To this, Louis, long accustomed to it, was very calm. Yelena and Uta, after encountering this situation a few times, just marveled at it and then let it go.
After a long time, the trio stopped at the summit of a mountain in Elegia. They sat on a large rock, taking in the entire view of the kingdom.
"Shanks and the others should have set out earlier than us. Why haven't they appeared yet?" Yelena scanned the island, her brow slightly furrowed.
To this, Uta, who was resting her head on Yelena's lap and swinging her fair, slender legs, said with a cheerful smile, "Don't worry, Shanks would never break a promise!"
