Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The System Fails at a Critical Moment
"In fact, if he truly performs a great service in this battle, I'll submit a report to the World Government and request a full pardon for him," Magellan said gravely.
"Warden, is that guy really that dangerous?"
"I'm not confident I can stop him… but I'll do everything I can."
Hearing this, Domino realized just how dire the situation was for Impel Down. She nodded solemnly, then quickly turned and headed for Level 6.
—
Meanwhile, on Rikuya's side, amidst cheers and chants, he and the released Level 2 prisoners made their way to Level 3 — the Starvation Hell.
This level held some of the most dangerous criminals with bounties over 50 million Berries. Due to the searing heat from the lower "Blazing Hell" rising upward, this level was scorching, and on top of that, the inmates were subjected to extreme starvation and dehydration—most were half-dead already.
However, they had long heard the chaos erupting above.
So when Rikuya and his army descended, the entire level erupted in excitement.
To the prisoners here, Rikuya had already become something of a messianic figure.
It was on this floor that Rikuya encountered the Deputy Warden Hannyabal.
Compared to Magellan, Hannyabal's strength was laughable. Rikuya didn't even see him as a real threat.
When their eyes met, Rikuya smirked and said, "Yo, isn't this our dear Deputy Warden? What's wrong, Magellan didn't come and sent you to die instead?"
"Hmph! What nonsense are you spouting?! For something this important, of course I had to come myself!" Hannyabal slammed his trident to the ground as he shouted back.
The floor beneath cracked under the blow.
Rikuya glanced at the trembling guards behind Hannyabal and sneered, "Your guards look like they're scared to death."
At this point, the difference in morale was massive.
Rikuya's followers were prisoners who had already given up hope. They fought with nothing to lose. Even if they died here, it didn't matter to them.
But the prison guards were the opposite. They didn't want to die.
And with senior officers like Saldeath and Sadi already defeated, how could these low-ranking grunts possibly stop an army of desperate convicts?
Hannyabal was well aware that the situation was unfavorable for their side. So instead of wasting time, he charged at Rikuya with his trident.
Rikuya smiled calmly—then suddenly vanished.
In an instant, he reappeared at Hannyabal's side!
To his credit, Hannyabal was still a Deputy Warden and far stronger than Sadi. Even with Rikuya's lightning-fast speed, Hannyabal was able to track his movement and respond immediately.
He raised his trident sharply.
CLANG!
Rikuya's fist slammed into the trident.
Despite Rikuya's superior taijutsu and enhanced body, the impact left his arm slightly numb.
But just as he was about to strike again, an abrupt and very unwelcome system notification rang in his ears:
Ding! [Might Guy Character Card] usage time has expired. Returning host to original state. Please be advised.
The moment that message hit, it was as if Rikuya's very soul had been ripped out. His body suddenly went limp.
Hannyabal, who was still on guard for another attack, saw Rikuya falter—and didn't hesitate.
He drove his foot straight into Rikuya's stomach.
BOOM!
With no defense up, Rikuya was sent flying, crashing into the crowd of inmates behind him.
The prisoners were startled, but they rushed forward to catch him before he hit the ground.
Even then, Rikuya couldn't stop himself from spitting out a mouthful of blood.
The moment Hannyabal's kick landed, he felt as if his entire insides had been flipped upside down.
Hannyabal himself was stunned—he hadn't expected such a clean hit to actually injure Rikuya.
Recalling how powerful Rikuya had been just moments ago, Hannyabal's lips began to curl into a smug smile.
He then glanced knowingly at a surveillance Den Den Mushi, clearly sending a signal to Magellan, who was watching from the fourth floor.
Now Hannyabal's fighting spirit soared.
Initially, he had hoped that the riot would force Magellan to take the blame and step down—then he could claim the position of Warden.
But now, the situation had changed.
If he could defeat Rikuya head-on and crush this uprising, he could use that feat to recommend himself to the World Government as the new Warden.
With that in mind, his grin turned sly and sinister.
This one exchange dramatically shifted the morale on both sides.
The guards, who had been hopeless before, now cheered upon seeing Rikuya injured.
Meanwhile, the prisoners were struck silent.
After all, if even Rikuya could be defeated, what hope did the rest of them have?
"Well, well… Looks like you're not so tough after all," Hannyabal mocked, still standing tall. "Trying to break out of prison with that pathetic power? Once I tie you up, I'll show you what real pain feels like!"
But Rikuya merely chuckled coldly.
With a thought, he immediately re-activated the Might Guy character card.
Ding! [Might Guy Character Card] successfully activated. Remaining uses: -1.
With that notification, energy surged back into Rikuya's body.
He wiped the blood from his mouth—and charged straight at Hannyabal once more!
