Chapter 40: NAMI -38
[Between the Four Seas, many major events have recently taken place in the East Blue, known as the weakest of all seas.]
Among these events are the resignation of Axeman Morgan, commander of Marine Branch 153, and the defeat of Buggy, an East Blue pirate with a bounty of 15 million Berries.
Of course, most of the East Blue's residents still know nothing about any of this.
They could never have imagined that the one behind it all was a rookie pirate who hadn't even been at sea for more than a month.
[In the waters of Sambas in the East Blue, as the sea swayed endlessly, a large ship floated calmly.]
The ship's bow was shaped like a fish's head, and its overall appearance resembled a sea creature.
It was the Baratie, the famous floating restaurant in the East Blue, where the future Pirate King, "Straw Hat" Monkey D. Luffy, once worked—and even one of the future Four Emperors.
"Ugh, I can't take this anymore! It's been four days already! Luffy, don't tell me you plan on working here for a whole year?"
While Luffy was taking out the trash, Usopp leaned on the Merry and whined at him.
Just like in the original story, Zeff had Luffy doing all sorts of odd jobs around the restaurant for some reason.
And if nothing changed the course of events, Luffy would be forced to work at the Baratie for a full year to pay off his debt.
Luffy couldn't do anything about it and replied with a dejected face:
"Give me a little more time. I'll try talking to the chef again."
But before he could even finish his sentence, a loud voice shouted from inside the restaurant:
"Hey, weird worker! Stop slacking and start serving the customers!"
"Oh, here we go again..."
Luffy instinctively replied and turned to head back inside the restaurant.
Zoro, unable to bear the sight, covered his face with his hand and muttered:
"That idiot's gotten way too used to this... If this keeps up, there won't be any point in continuing this pirate crew."
Usopp suddenly perked up at that and declared:
"Alright! In that case, there's no choice! Let the great Captain Usopp lead us on through the East Blue adventures!"
Then he raised his hand high and shouted:
"Alright, who wants me to be captain? Hands up!"
He was the first to raise his hand... then looked around hopefully.
But Zoro walked away and started talking to his two younger brothers who had just come aboard.
Nami, meanwhile, was lying lazily on the side of the ship, staring absentmindedly at a bounty poster in her hand.
"One... two... and no one else?"
Realizing no one was paying attention to him, Usopp awkwardly lowered his hand and muttered under his breath.
"Hey, Usopp."
Zoro suddenly called out to him, and Usopp turned to see him pointing his thumb toward the restaurant:
"I'm hungry. Want to grab something to eat?"
"Of course! But... do we still have any money?"
Usopp replied hesitantly, thinking about their current budget.
Nami, who had been lost in thought, snapped back to attention the moment she heard the word "money."
She pulled out a fat wad of cash, waved it with a sly grin, and strolled past them as if nothing was happening.
"Aaah, what should I do~? I don't have to pay anything here, and I still have so much money~"
Zoro and Usopp's eyes locked onto her instantly. They both reached out their hands toward her and said:
"Loan us a little! We'll pay you back later!"
Nami smirked and handed them each a 10,000 Berries bill, but said:
"That's three loans per person. You'll each owe me just 50,000."
The two of them froze instantly.
"Hey! We're on the same ship! That's highway robbery!"
Zoro shouted angrily, pulling his hand back, while Usopp began counting on his fingers nervously.
"If I borrow 10,000 and pay it back three times... that's 30,000... Where'd 50,000 come from? Did you add interest?"
"You... you're a scammer!"
Nami replied coolly:
"Take it or leave it."
Then she tucked the bills back in her pocket and turned to get off the boat. But not before taunting them:
"Enjoy starving, I'm off to have a feast."
She stuck out her tongue and skipped toward the restaurant.
Zoro and Usopp stayed at the rail, staring bitterly after her.
Usopp clutched his stomach and muttered weakly:
"I'm so hungry... Nami's so lucky, eating for free like that..."
Zoro gritted his teeth and said:
"That damn cook treats me like I'm his mortal enemy! I swear I'll cut him in half!"
As the two of them moaned in misery, Johnny and Yosaku, the two brothers who had recently joined them, spoke up:
"Brother, you've been taking care of us all this time. We've still got some cash left. Why don't we treat you guys to lunch?"
"For real?!" *2
Zoro and Usopp's faces lit up immediately.
"Awesome! Let's go, brothers!"
"To the food!" *2
The four of them happily disembarked and headed toward the restaurant.
Usopp was already planning to gloat at Nami when they saw her later.
As they laughed, Zoro noticed a strange ship docked beside the restaurant. He didn't recognize the flag, but he didn't pay much attention.
The Baratie was a famous restaurant—it was normal for strangers to come and go.
He pushed the door open and walked in with Usopp.
But the moment they entered, they heard a familiar voice.
They turned and saw Nami arguing with a beautiful girl with purple hair that neither of them recognized.
Let's rewind ten minutes…
When the restaurant doors opened, a man entered accompanied by five beautiful women.
He walked straight to the largest table in the restaurant and sat down with confidence.
The five women—each stunning and unique in appearance—followed closely behind and took seats around him.
The man was Peter.
He glanced around at the restaurant's décor and its guests, then commented casually:
"Very elegant place. No wonder it's such a famous restaurant in the East Blue."
