Chapter 19: Gain
The graph displayed on the screen was a lovely green line that rose steadily. Adam felt his heart pounding in his chest. It was a racing, adrenaline-fueled flow.
He had earned sixty thousand dollars. He made more money in a few minutes than he had in six years at his previous hotel job. It was overwhelming to face reality.
He wasted no time. His mind was clear and sharp, but the excitement was burning in his veins. He grabbed his phone right away. He navigated to the app's crypto section.
All of his shares of the cryptocurrency XYZ were sold. The full $160,000 was cashed out by him. The transaction happened instantly. A moment later, he saw the money in his bank account.
Adam now had five million and sixty thousand dollars. He was just looking at the number on his screen when a familiar icon appeared. It was the pop-up from the One-Click Billionaire app.
[Congratulations. You have earned $30,000 from your investment. Do you want to increase your level?]
This was the moment he had been waiting for. He pressed the 'OK' button without a single thought. The pop-up vanished. The interface changed.
It returned to the main 'Earn' screen. He looked at his details. His balance was now five million and thirty thousand dollars. Thirty thousand dollars had been deducted for the level up. Below his balance the new level was displayed.
Level 3.
And below that was the number that made his breath catch in his throat.
$11 per click.
A huge grin spread across Adam's face. Eleven dollars. For every single tap. The jump from Level 2 to Level 3 was even bigger than the last one. The power he held in his hand was growing at an exponential rate.
He immediately started clicking the button. He had to test it. He had to feel it. He tapped for just a few moments. In less than a minute he had made another ten thousand dollars. The speed was intoxicating.
He stopped tapping. He looked at the Level 3 indicator again. Next to it was the requirement for the next level up. To advance to Level 4 Adam would have to invest in property.
He would need to earn one hundred thousand dollars from that property investment. Then he could use that one hundred thousand dollars to reach the next level.
Adam understood the pattern now. The app was pushing him forward. First it was stocks. Now it was property. It wanted him to build a diverse and stable foundation for his wealth. It was not just about clicking a button. It was about learning how to use the money in the real world.
He thought about what he had learned in his life so far. He knew that property usually provided a steady return. The stock market was risky. Crypto was even riskier.
But property was a stable source of income. He had learned that lesson from his own landlady Mrs. Gold. She ran her life by renting out properties. It was how she had built her own small fortune.
His mind was buzzing with ideas. He could buy an apartment building. He could buy a commercial space. He could become a landlord just like Mrs. Gold but on a much larger scale. The possibilities were endless.
He was lost in these thoughts when he glanced out the window. He realized it was evening already. The sky was turning a deep shade of orange. He did not know how so much time had passed so quickly. He had been in his room all day lost in the world of the app.
He put his phone in his pocket. He decided he needed some fresh air. He walked out of his apartment. He stood in the hallway for a moment. He was just about to go downstairs when he heard footsteps.
He saw Sophia ascending the stairs as he glanced down the hall. She was on her way back from her job at the school. She appeared worn out. She had a tired face.
She had a slight hunch in her shoulders. She had obviously had a busy day. However, her entire expression changed when she saw Adam standing there. Her expression brightened. Her lips formed a radiant smile. She gave him a wave. With a fresh vigor in her step, she approached him.
Adam anticipated her. She smiled at him. And he became anxious. The old insecurity rushed back.
It made no difference how much money he had in his bank account. It made no difference what he planned to do with his real estate empire. His only thought was that he was unworthy and she was gorgeous.
He was desperate to get away. He walked over to his door. He began to return to his apartment. He was unwilling to confront her. He was at a loss for words. Despite his feelings of cowardice, he was powerless to stop himself.
