Chapter 15: CHAPTER 15
"Yeah, I used to think there wasn't much left to learn here. That only by becoming a shinobi could I really grow stronger."
Kakashi paused, eyes lowering briefly before locking onto Haneda's with rare sincerity.
"But now…" His voice softened.
"I think… there's still a lot I need to learn."
Haneda blinked in surprise. Kakashi… saying this?
"Ninjutsu matters," Kakashi continued, "but it's not everything. A shinobi needs more than just techniques. I'm… trying to figure out what that is."
Haneda could feel the honesty in his tone. Slowly, he placed a hand on Kakashi's desk and grinned.
"I get it, Kakashi. But hey—don't slack on ninjutsu either. It's still a shinobi's foundation."
"Of course." Kakashi nodded firmly, mask hiding most of his face, but his eye sharp with resolve.
"I won't lose next time."
"It's a deal." Haneda extended his fist.
Kakashi hesitated for a moment—then bumped it with his own.
In that brief contact, Kakashi felt something shift. A quiet understanding. Maybe… this was what he needed to learn.
[Ding! Kakashi's Impression +3]
[Ding! Kakashi's Impression +5]
…
[Hatake Kakashi's favorability reached 200. Reward: +0.2 chakra cards, partial Sharingan synchronization, comprehension of Chūnin-level Lightning Chakra.]
Haneda froze. What the—?
Kakashi's favorability skyrocketed like a missile! Over 200 already?!
Obito and I have been hanging out for years, and I barely scraped 80… And I didn't even say anything dramatic!
Could it be… Kakashi just unlocked his own character arc?
Sure enough, green plums can't resist heaven's gift. Emmm…
As Haneda silently processed this insanity, Kakashi cleared his throat, remembering something.
"Haneda… are you free tonight?"
Haneda raised a brow. What's he planning?
"What's up, Kakashi?"
"My father… wants to invite you to dinner. He said I should bring my new friend." Kakashi's voice dipped slightly, almost awkward.
"Friend?" Haneda echoed, making Kakashi stiffen nervously.
Then Haneda grinned, his tone deliberately grand:
"Alright then! Uchiha Haneda accepts. From today, Hatake Kakashi is my friend."
Relief flashed in Kakashi's visible eye. "Yakiniku Q. You know where that is, right?"
"Got it."
The two chatted idly after that—mostly meaningless small talk—until the classroom door slid open and their teacher walked in. Haneda turned back toward his seat, mind spinning.
Konoha's White Fang inviting me to dinner… This isn't just a meal. It's a statement.
System rules say names only show up after 50 favorability. Kakashi's already at 81. Basically a sworn brother now.
Danzo won't dare touch me if Sakumo's backing me. Add the Uchiha clan on top… double insurance. As long as I don't dig my own grave, I'm untouchable in Konoha.
The corner of Haneda's lips curled into a satisfied smirk.
---
Da-dada—
Hurried footsteps echoed from the hallway. A boy wearing goggles skidded through the door, panting.
"Priva… Marseille, Sensei!" Obito wheezed dramatically, one hand gripping the frame.
"No need," the teacher said flatly without turning. "Let me guess. You were helping an old lady cross the street again?"
"A-ha-ha… Sensei already knew?" Obito scratched his head sheepishly.
The teacher pinched the bridge of his nose. "Sit down. And try not to make this a daily event."
(He'd checked before. The kid really did escort old ladies every morning. What was he, a civilian patrol unit?)
"Thanks, Sensei!" Obito beamed, trotting toward his seat.
From the next desk, Rin whispered harshly, cheeks puffed in frustration.
"Late again, Obito! Fifth time this week—and it's Friday!"
Obito's face flushed scarlet as he blurted, "I-I didn't mean to!" Meanwhile, Haneda covered a laugh behind his hand.
"You can't blame him, Rin," Haneda said casually. "His route's a minefield of old ladies."
"Stop spoiling him, Haneda!" Rin shot back.
Before Haneda could reply, the teacher's voice cut in sharply:
"Since you three are so lively… Haneda-san, why don't you solve this?"
He pointed to a problem on the board.
Haneda barely glanced at it. "…Don't know."
A vein popped on the teacher's forehead. "Are you sure?"
"Absolutely," Haneda said smoothly, expression calm and unbothered.
Uchiha genes did the rest. Girls' whispers rippled instantly through the classroom:
"Ahh, even his refusal is cool!"
"He's so handsome AND strong—how is this fair?!"
"Kakashi's great, but Haneda's smile just now… I can't breathe!"
Haneda resisted the urge to sigh. This wasn't in the script. How did I become the main heartthrob overnight?
His annoyance deepened when another conversation drifted to his ears:
"Brother Asuma, that guy Haneda's acting arrogant again," a boy muttered.
"Watch your mouth," Asuma snapped. "He's my most respected rival!"
"…Didn't he beat you yesterday?"
"That was the teaching of love!" Asuma puffed his chest, lowering his voice conspiratorially.
"Listen—I snuck into my dad's office last night. Checked Sakumo-senpai's file. Twenty-seven S-rank missions. One hundred twenty-three A-rank. Do you think I'd dare disrespect him?"
"And my father…" Asuma's voice dropped even lower, bitter.
"He let Danzo badmouth Sakumo-senpai… pathetic."
"Then why not expose him?"
Asuma flushed. "…He warned me. But someday, I'll make things right." His eyes burned with conviction.
"I'll overthrow the corruption and become Hokage myself! Until then—show Uchiha Haneda some respect!"
"Yes, Brother Asuma!"
Haneda, overhearing every word, blinked slowly.
…What did I just start?
