Chapter 143: The Sixth Gate Unleashed!
"Eight Gates: Morning Peacock!"
Might Guy stomped the ground with his right foot, leaving behind an afterimage as he shot towards Urashiki like a bullet— to avoid damaging the Leaf Village with his Taijutsu, Guy intended on taking the battle to the skies, where he would have free rein to go all out and shower his opponent with blazing punches.
And yet…
Urashiki swatted Guy's leg from under him with his weapon before kicking him away, disrupting Guy's combo and sending him bowling through the shinobi encircling them— even though Guy had been going faster than the eye could see, Urashiki had still somehow managed to react, predict Guy's flight path, and finally perfectly counter— all in under a fraction of a second!
"Is this the true power of the Rinnegan…?"
Such thoughts filled the minds of the Hyūga clan members surrounding their long-lost relative. Was the difference between them really that great…?
"YOUTH!" proclaimed Guy, as he jumped to his feet.
With six of the Eight Inner Gates opened, Guy's body could be considered pretty much indestructible, due to the sheer density of the chakra coursing through his Chakra Pathway System.
As a rule of thumb, shinobi were about as resilient as ordinary humans, but as long as they had enough chakra actively running through their system, their resistance to injury would increase by leaps and bounds… take for example Naruto in his Tailed Beast Cloak or the Third Raikage in his Lightning Chakra Mode Cloak— there was no keeping them down!
Indeed, one of chakra's many amazing properties was its indestructibility— once it had been generated, the only way to get rid of it was to disperse it or to find some way to absorb and metabolise it— and after some time, it would return to nature on its own— which also meant that the net quantity of chakra in the world was constantly increasing.
For example, after defeating his own mother with his brother's help, the Sage of Six Paths had long pondered the question of what ought to be done with the Ten Tails, which he deemed too dangerous to allow to roam freely in the shinobi world. Killing it was out of the question— chakra was also a vessel for spiritual energy, which meant that Ten Tails, which was a creature entirely made of chakra, would keep endlessly reviving itself long after his death— and once the Sage himself was gone, no human would stand a chance against it.
Seeing as destroying it for good was an impossibility, the Sage of Six Paths had used his Yin-Yang Style to separate the Ten-Tails into nine unequal parts and given them each their own consciousness. This way, they would gain the ability to interact with the humans they would share the world with!
However, Guy in his Inner Gates state was not invincible— far from it.
While he was mostly safe from attacks coming from the outside, the Eight Inner Gates was still a taboo self-sacrificial technique. Even though the Sage of Six Paths had forcibly evolved the entirety of humanity to adapt to chakra, having chakra in one's body at all was not a natural state for a human to be in.
There were chakra viruses, chakra diseases borne from having too much chakra… and of course, the body had put in place limiters on itself for a reason— extracting too much chakra from one's cells at once and having it rampage through one's system was extremely damaging and tiring.
And lastly, it must be known that only chakra can damage chakra constructs— which is why regular weapons cannot cut a puppeteer's chakra strings. As such, if an incoming attack were denser in chakra than the chakra running through Guy's body, it would actually hurt him!
'Something's off,' said Inner Sakura, as she watched Urashiki and Guy exchange blow after blow. 'Is he reading his mind, or something?'
The very instant Guy would make a move, Urashiki would pre-emptively parry or dodge out of the way, as if he knew ahead of time when and where Guy would strike.
The Eight Inner Gates had never failed Guy before— nobody had the reflexes or the speed to avoid his attacks past the seventh gate. His opponents were only human, and he was an indestructible human bullet— his foes could only stand in front of him helplessly before bursting apart like overripe watermelons, not even knowing how they had died.
For the nth time, Guy shot towards Urashiki— only to end up getting cross-countered with the entirety of his own momentum adding to the power of Urashiki's punch. Anticlimactically, Guy wobbled slightly, before finally collapsing, K.O.
'No, that's not it!' exclaimed Inner Sakura. 'This time, Urashiki moved slightly before Guy attacked— he really does know ahead of time when Guy will launch an attack!'
At the speeds Guy was moving, he couldn't see where he was going— he could only gauge the distance between him and his opponent, and strike when he thought the timing was right. If he missed, he wouldn't be able to correct his course— he'd have to stop for the briefest of moments, ascertain the situation, and start a new attack.
"Hang on, Guy-sensei!" shouted Lee. "I am coming to help!"
The fight between Urashiki and Guy had been too intense for others to join in— but now that Guy was down, they didn't have to worry about getting in his way!
"Close in!" Hiashi ordered his troops. "Get me those eyes!"
Tenten's puppets moved in as well, each of them carrying a different weapon.
"No, get out of his range!" Sakura shouted hoarsely. "He can steal your chakra— you'll only be making him stronger if you approach him carelessly!"
Urashiki glanced in Sakura's direction.
He was still in the process of metabolising the immense chakra he had stolen from her— it was laden with spiritual instructions and processes that he still couldn't make heads or tails of, but he was certain of one thing: her chakra lived to devour others… just like that of a Divine Tree's.
"You there, human girl!" Urashiki asked curiously. "Could it be that you're descended from that traitor— gotcha!"
Completely out of the blue, Urashiki spun on his heel and grabbed Tenten by the throat, just as she appeared behind his back— she had just teleported to a marked puppet which she had directed to sneak up behind Urashiki, only to get captured instantly!
'That proves it— his Rinnegan's special ability is that it can see the future, or something along those lines,' Inner Sakura reasoned. 'The Flying Thunder God Jutsu is instantaneous— it can't be reacted to, so he had to know she'd appear behind his back in advance in order to pull that off!
