Chapter 146: MSOC: Chapter 146
Hours later, Kai, Kakuzu, and a grumbling Hidan left the Land of Hot Water's capital, followed by a blushing Konan and her team.
"Konan-sama, what now?" Kuraki asked, his robe torn and dirty. They'd been "sparring" with Hidan, who'd been stitched back together, but it was more like a brutal beatdown. Fortunately, Hidan hadn't used his curse, or many would have died. They wanted to leave Kai's group, but there was only one road out of the capital, and they hadn't completed their mission. They considered force, but even Hidan alone was terrifying, let alone the two seemingly invincible monsters with him.
"Don't worry, I have a plan," Konan said, her blush still lingering. The memory of Kai's embrace made her face burn. She gritted her teeth, watching Kai's unhurried pace.
"Let's rest here," Kai stopped, surprising everyone.
"Boss, I'm a patient. You didn't even give me anesthesia during the stitching. I'm not doing this," Hidan leaned against a tree to rest.
Everyone twitched. He hadn't needed anesthesia during his self-inflicted curse. Now he was shirking responsibility.
Konan and the others stopped several meters away, then saw a dark shadow emerge from Kai's backpack.
"Boss, are you hungry?"
"Wait here, I'll be right back. I smell a lion."
"Finally! Boss is free!"
The Three-Tails, without hesitation, sprinted off at incredible speed. Kuraki and the others were stunned.
"Konan, are you hungry?" Kai asked, ignoring the Three-Tails' antics. Reasoning with it was impossible.
Konan quickly replied, "We… we have rations." She produced some compressed rations—dry, hard biscuits.
"No…" Kai touched his nose. Besides the unappetizing taste, they were a choking hazard. Kai avoided them.
"Oh…" Konan's disappointment was palpable.
Kuraki quickly interjected, "Kai-sama, was that a pet? So cute! Your taste is excellent! Can I hold it later?" Few had clearly seen the Three-Tails, but flattery was always appreciated.
"Yeah, it shouldn't mind," Kai replied, unrolling a scroll and producing cooking utensils.
"Are we having a picnic?" Konan was surprised. They'd assumed Kai's culinary skills were nonexistent.
"Good thing he didn't invite us. We'd be guinea pigs," Kuraki whispered, lighting a portable gas stove, boiling water, and cooking the rations. It was a simple way to eat in the field.
Konan, used to Kuraki's methods, watched Kai intently. She, a refugee from Amegakure, valued food that filled her stomach. She hadn't expected such skill and artistry. Kai arranged his cooking utensils, his Sharingan activating as lightning crackled around his knife.
"Meat!"
Kakuzu immediately threw a ten-pound leg of meat into the air. Kai's Sharingan analyzed the meat's texture, revealing its secrets.
"Lightning Release: Chidori Flow: Cut!"
Lightning surged. Kai's knife moved with incredible speed, dicing the meat into perfect cubes. The meat was still crackling with electricity, the juices perfectly sealed, emitting a rich aroma. Kai added spices, using wind-style chakra to quickly mix the meat with chopsticks.
"Starch!"
Kai looked at Kakuzu, whose clumsy technique was far inferior to Kai's masterful blend of ninjutsu and cooking. Kai frowned, adding the meat to starch. His chakra surged, forming a Rasengan. He slammed it into the bowl.
Everyone recoiled. The Rasengan's destructive power was terrifying. Using the nine-tomoe Sharingan and ninjutsu for cooking seemed wasteful. They didn't expect it wouldn't explode.
