Chapter 153: Chapter 152 – You’d Better Not Do That
Uchiha Kaien wasn't surprised in the slightest to see Indra's chakra begin to stir.
After all, Uchiha Madara was Indra's reincarnation. As long as Madara was still alive, Indra's chakra couldn't separate from its host and move on its own.
And without Indra reincarnating, his younger brother Asura's chakra couldn't reincarnate either.
This was precisely why, despite the death of Senju Hashirama long ago, no new Asura reincarnation had appeared in the shinobi world.
If the elder brother didn't reincarnate, then the reincarnation of Asura's chakra would be meaningless.
After all, the whole point of Asura's reincarnation was to oppose his brother and put an end to the endless cycle of conflict.
Now that Indra's chakra had manifested, it likely meant that Asura's chakra would soon appear as well.
Kaien returned to the present and turned his full attention toward the Indra chakra in front of him.
Well, "full attention" might've been an overstatement.
Kaien had already noticed that the moment Indra's chakra surged into his body, it had plunged straight into his inner spiritual world.
Inside that world, Indra's chakra still appeared as a mass of violet energy—its shape hadn't changed in the slightest.
Or rather, it never had the chance to change.
The instant Indra's chakra rashly charged into his body, it had fallen entirely into Kaien's control.
"You're being a bit reckless," Kaien said softly, his tone light and his expression tinged with a bright smile. "Indra's chakra, invading my world without even gauging the difference in our strength... how rude."
If this had been Indra at his peak, Kaien might've had a harder time in terms of raw power. But right now, this was nothing more than a fragment of residual chakra.
Not to mention, Kaien's greatest advantage was his countless traits.
Under the effects of [True Self], any attempt by Indra's chakra to make him a host was nothing short of digging its own grave.
[True Self: Your soul clings steadfastly to its essence. Soul-based jutsu cannot harm your spirit. Completely immune to all genjutsu. Capable of blocking invisible spiritual intrusions.]
No matter what form Indra's chakra took, it was powerless in the face of [True Self].
Seeing Indra's chakra still squirming, Kaien calmly reinforced the seal.
"Four Symbols Seal!"
In an instant, jet-black runes spread through Kaien's spiritual world. An endless darkness wrapped itself layer by layer around Indra's chakra, rendering it completely immobile.
Only then did Kaien deactivate his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
Indra was still the Sage of Six Paths' son, after all. Even if Kaien didn't fear for his life, he wasn't about to let his guard down.
He had originally prepared to unleash a complete-body Susanoo inside his spiritual world to battle it out.
But in the end, that proved unnecessary.
Thousands of years of reincarnation had clearly worn down Indra, whose current level could barely be considered "Six Paths" in terms of life force.
"In that case, you might as well stop struggling," Kaien said, his voice still laced with amusement.
"This Four Symbols Seal was developed by one of your dear brother's descendants. For you to be sealed by your brother's descendant… how fitting."
He continued speaking, probing Indra's chakra with words meant to strike deep.
Very few things truly mattered to Indra—but his brother Asura was one of them. Anything related to Asura always provoked a strong reaction.
Especially when it came to power—Indra had always been the original founder of ninjutsu, and now he'd been subdued by a sealing technique. The irony was glaring.
Sure enough, when Kaien mentioned Asura, Indra's chakra could no longer stay still. Inside that cramped space where it was sealed, the violet mass began to shudder violently, emitting an annoying, incessant hum.
"What are you so upset about?" Kaien asked gently. "Is it because I know about your brother Asura? Or because you're angry that you've fallen behind him yet again?"
"And besides, now that you've reincarnated… doesn't that mean your brother's chakra will return as well?"
Kaien's smile grew even more tender, and his suggestion made Indra's chakra writhe with growing unease.
"If you can't bring yourself to acknowledge your brother… then I'll acknowledge him for you."
"Since you're inside me now, that means I'm your host… or perhaps your master?"
"Because let's face it—you're in a pretty pathetic state right now."
Kaien had no intention of letting Indra's chakra go. Keeping it sealed within him was the best option—there was no need to risk unpredictable consequences by releasing it.
"If I carry your aura while approaching your brother's reincarnation… do you think he'll trust me?"
"He was always so close to you, but you treated him with cold indifference."
"So if you can't be the big brother he deserves… I'll be that big brother for him. Just imagine—if he comes to see me as his true brother, what use will you have left?"
Despite the clarity of Kaien's voice, every word he spoke sent chills down Indra's chakra. It trembled more violently than before, unable to shake off the seal, and could only watch helplessly as Kaien's silhouette faded from the darkened space.
When his figure finally vanished, a tide of darkness surged toward Indra's chakra, engulfing it completely. At the same time, the chakra itself was slowly being absorbed by an unknown force...
...
Outside.
Kaien slowly opened his eyes.
Sensing that Indra's chakra had finally calmed down, he reined in the chakra that had been surging from his body.
Looks like my big bluff worked pretty well.
At the very least, Indra bought it.
And as for how he knew about Indra and Asura? He'd just pin it on Black Zetsu later—no problem.
After all, he was a good guy. If he was acting like a villain now, it was either because he had no choice, or because someone stronger was controlling him. Deep down, his heart was filled with the Will of Fire!
With the Sage of Six Paths possibly lurking in the Pure Land, Kaien couldn't afford to do something as reckless as erasing Indra's chakra outright.
Who knew what kind of reaction the Sage might have if someone killed his son?
"Well then, I guess it's finally time to step into full villain mode."
Kaien casually conjured a mass of ghostly violet chakra and fused it with his own indigo-blue chakra, transforming it into an entirely new, cold bluish hue.
The violet portion had, of course, been drawn from Indra's chakra and simulated using the power of Kaien's beast. Blended with his own chakra, the fusion created a convincing disguise.
With this, Kaien's ruse was flawless.
He could fool Black Zetsu up close and the Sage of Six Paths from afar. And whenever he had some free time, he could even trick a few others.
The moment his chakra returned to its original indigo-blue color, it would mean he had been "rescued." But as long as he remained in this cold, blue-chakra state—well, anything he did could just be chalked up to being controlled. Poor little him.
"Well then... time to enjoy my birthday properly."
He grinned, his tone playful.
"And while I'm at it—let's find out who my darling little brother is, shall we?"
