Chapter 220: Chapter 220: What Is the Snake Under You For?
"Bastard!!" Sasuke roared, fists clenched and trembling. "I want to kill him! I knew it! I will destroy Konoha for revenge!"
Uchiha Itachi glanced at his younger brother, a vein twitching on his forehead. "This damn idiot…"
"Don't you understand yet?" Itachi said, clearly exasperated.
"Understand what?" Sasuke blinked, confused.
"The Third Hokage is dead," Itachi said coldly, "killed by Naruto's former mentor—Orochimaru! Why do you think Orochimaru returned to Konoha on a seemingly pointless mission? The traitorous Kazekage Rasa weakened the Sand Village's power and conspired to eliminate the Third Hokage—all to exact revenge on Naruto!"
"No way!" Sasuke's eyes widened. "Naruto's alive and well! Isn't he?"
Itachi hesitated. "That… I'm not sure about. You'll have to find that answer yourself."
"Why?!" Sasuke's frustration boiled over. "Why stop talking now when it's finally getting good?!"
"I have things to do," Itachi said, walking ahead without turning back. "I'm already dead—I have no obligation to explain everything."
"Damn it!" Sasuke snapped. "You're still the same cold bastard!"
"I found it." Itachi's voice turned sharp as he stared at the rocky outcrop before him. "Time to redeem myself."
"Susanoo!"
A crimson skeletal titan materialized and punched forward violently.
BOOM! The stone wall exploded in an ear-splitting crash as Susanoo shattered the barrier before them.
"Well done. I'm surprised you managed to track me through that barrier," Kabuto said, turning toward the Uchiha brothers with a mocking smile.
"When you had control over me through Impure World Reincarnation," Itachi said flatly, "I could sense your chakra signature clearly. That's exactly why Naruto sent me here. This is one of the inherent risks of the technique... but you don't need to understand it."
Kabuto grinned. "So you've finally come to teach me a lesson? Let me remind you, no shinobi has ever escaped the binding of this technique. Even if you kill me, you won't stop the Impure World Reincarnation. The technique continues without the caster."
Itachi's expression remained blank, but his gaze was filled with contempt. Do you think I came here without a plan?
Kabuto turned his attention to Sasuke. "Sasuke... you've always wanted to surpass your brother, haven't you? Why not fight him now and finish it? We both share Orochimaru's teachings... and the power of the snake."
"Shut up," Sasuke spat, cutting him off. "I never considered him my teacher. You clearly don't understand anything. The Uchiha clan isn't extinct—my parents are still alive! And Itachi... Itachi is already dead. I'm just here to see him off properly."
With that, Sasuke hurled two kunai at Kabuto, but both were deflected with ease.
"What are you doing?" Sasuke turned to Itachi, confused.
Itachi gave him a blank stare. "You can't kill him. If you kill the caster of Impure World Reincarnation, the technique becomes permanent. We need to defeat him without killing him—then I'll use Tsukuyomi to force him to release the technique."
Kabuto slowly rose to his feet, brushing dust off his robe. "You make it sound so simple," he said. "But let's see if you can actually pull it off."
With a sudden movement, Kabuto tossed back a drink vial, and a mass of white snakes burst from his body.
Sasuke stepped forward calmly. "Don't try to distract me with talk of 'next time' or 'later' again. I want that promise fulfilled—now!"
Kabuto blinked. What promise did I even make to him?
On the far side of the battlefield, Kabuto formed a tiger seal with his hand as a massive white snake coiled around his body, swelling in size.
Suddenly, the snake lunged at both brothers.
BOOM! The impact leveled the surrounding rocks, sending dust clouds into the air.
Kabuto's smirk faded as he felt his snake abruptly restrained.
As the dust settled, the crimson Susanoo of Itachi had caught the snake mid-lunge, gripping it tightly in its massive hands.
Beside him, Sasuke's purple Susanoo cleaved through the serpent in a single fluid strike, severing its head.
"Be careful, Sasuke!" Itachi warned. "Don't accidentally kill him!"
A low, mocking laugh echoed from Kabuto's mouth.
"You want to kill me?" he asked darkly, his chakra spiking. "Then bring it on!"
Sasuke narrowed his eyes. "Trouble incoming," he muttered.
"What is it?" Itachi asked.
"This is Sage Mode," Sasuke said grimly. "But not from Mount Myōboku—it's from Ryūchi Cave. The snake variant... it's the one Naruto called 'Kame-sen' Style Martial Arts'—from his own training after meeting the Sage of Six Paths!"
"Sage of Six Paths?" Itachi blinked. "When did he leave behind something like that?"
"I don't know the details," Sasuke replied. "But this power is real, and it's dangerous."
Itachi nodded slowly. "Makes sense. Kabuto was Orochimaru's right hand. And Orochimaru was one of Naruto's few disciples—if anyone could inherit that kind of knowledge, it would be him."
Kabuto chuckled. "Indeed. While you all chased cursed seals and unstable power, Lord Orochimaru focused on something deeper—on Shigetsu, Jūgo… on the origins of their abilities. He traced them to Ryūchi Cave—one of the Three Great Sage Regions, along with Mount Myōboku and Shikkotsu Forest. He tried to master that power, but his body failed him. I succeeded where he did not. I've achieved Perfect Sage Mode!"
With a flicker, Kabuto vanished and reappeared in front of Itachi, launching a devastating punch.
BANG!! The crimson Susanoo was thrown backward with explosive force.
"Nani?!" Sasuke exclaimed as cracks spiderwebbed across Itachi's Susanoo. "Such strength!"
"You think snake power's enough?" Kabuto bellowed. "I'm no longer a snake... I'm a dragon!"
He shed his cloak, revealing his bulging, scaled muscles.
Sasuke frowned, pointing toward Kabuto's exposed abdomen. "You know... I've been wondering. What's that little white snake curled up on your belly? Is that... decorative?"
Kabuto: "…"
Kabuto's face twitched.
"Mmp! DIE!!" he roared, infuriated. "Sage Art: White Extreme Attack!!"
A thin membrane slid over Kabuto's eyes like a snake's second eyelid. His body swelled grotesquely, and he vomited a massive red serpent coiled around a pitch-black orb.
The orb glowed violently white, spinning with an unnatural hum.
The air distorted. Space itself seemed to ripple. A high-frequency vibration began to pulse, shaking the battlefield.
It was as if glass were being scraped—shrill, nauseating.
Itachi and Sasuke both clutched their ears. Pain shot through their skulls as the sound pierced their bones.
Sasuke gritted his teeth, blood dripping from his ears. "Tch... This... isn't normal sound…"
Itachi forced his eyes open and saw Kabuto weaving through the chaos with ease, unaffected.
Kabuto grinned. "Snake physiology. My corneas are immune to intense light. My liquified body doesn't rely on standard sensory input—it responds to vibrations. In this entire domain of white light and deafening sound... I'm the only one who can move freely!"
With a guttural roar, Kabuto hurled a fist at Sasuke—
BOOM!!
The next blow landed with devastating force.
