Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Ambush!
As Queen was enjoying hot pot, singing songs, and watching the dance of the oiran, a group of burly warriors armed with sharp blades stormed in and ambushed him.
Granted, they weren't exactly on par with Queen's size — few men could match him in height or bulk. But that wasn't the main issue; a team of skilled fighters like Ashura Doji, Denjiro, Yamato, Ace, and Shin had him outnumbered, and within ten minutes, the unfortunate Queen was incapacitated. Shin swiftly stored him in the dark dimension, stripping him of all weapons and even his transformed body's enhancements.
Meanwhile, Queen's subordinates fell to the samurai led by Hyogoro, who efficiently subdued them, leaving no room for resistance.
"Since we've captured Queen, Kaido's forces will hear about this within a day or two," Shin remarked.
"It's time for our full-scale assault!" Shin, aware of the strategic advantage of launching a surprise attack, decided to act without delay.
First, Shin dispatched the Kurozumi Orochi clone and his forces. Casting a genjutsu over the high-ranking officers and doping the troops with stimulants, he ordered them to storm the Beast Pirates' mines.
While these troops were still weak even with enhancements, the forces guarding the mines weren't the Beast Pirates' main fighters either. The two sides were more or less evenly matched in terms of strength.
Shin didn't care much about the casualties among his manipulated forces; their eventual sacrifice would also reduce the burden of future responsibility.
However, it would soon become impossible to conceal their actions.
Communication in Wano was unique. Their phone snails, called 'Smart Tanishi,' resembled cone snails with limited range, requiring larger snails for long-distance transmission. By controlling the main communication snails, Shin's team had restricted contact with the outside world. Yet, some mines retained regular phone snails, allowing the mine overseers to notify Kaido's people.
When Kaido received the news, he was furious, thinking Orochi had betrayed him. In a fit of rage, he set off with his entire crew to confront the supposed traitor.
And yes, Kaido brought everything with him — including the entire Onigashima Island.
The forces in Wano, prepared for an ambush, were stunned as they saw Onigashima floating in the sky.
"This guy actually brought the whole island... What should we do now?" Ashura Doji muttered, bewildered.
Attempting to jump and attack was out of the question — too dangerous and impractical. Even if they succeeded in defeating Kaido in the air, the falling Onigashima would inflict massive casualties below.
"Leave it to me." Shin sighed, mentally preparing to use his chakra-based abilities. Kaido had undoubtedly raised the stakes.
As soon as he finished speaking, Shin's eyes morphed into the Rinnegan, and he soared toward Onigashima.
"Shin!" Ace called, flying after him. "Can you handle this? That's an entire island Kaido's lugging around!"
"Just watch," Shin replied, focusing his chakra. A dark, smoky sphere condensed in his hand — a fusion of his Rinnegan powers and the Dark-Dark Fruit.
"Black Hole - Planetary Devastation!"
The black sphere shot toward Onigashima, and instantly, the island began to warp, collapsing into the gravitational pull of the black hole until it vanished entirely.
Ace's jaw dropped. "I take it back. Kaido isn't the real monster... You are!"
The entire Wano group was equally stunned. Yamato looked at Shin, wide-eyed. "Shin... When did you get this strong?"
The last time they fought Kaido's forces, Shin had held his own with Water Release, but his combat strength hadn't outshone that of Ace or Yamato. Now, his power seemed leagues beyond theirs.
"Could it be the devil fruit's awakening or maybe an ability of the Dark-Dark Fruit?" Yamato and the others pondered, reaching what seemed to be a logical conclusion.
While Devil Fruit awakenings generally don't increase power this drastically, there's no precedent for the Dark-Dark Fruit awakening. They could only assume it made Shin this strong.
Meanwhile, Kaido, who had been dragging Onigashima across the sea, was just as shocked. Watching Shin suck the entire island into a black hole, Kaido's draconic eyes widened. His swift reflexes kept him far from the black hole's center, but the powerful gravitational force almost pulled him in.
"What did you do to my island, brat?!" Kaido roared, recognizing Shin from their previous encounter.
Without waiting for a reply, Kaido's tail, reinforced with Haki, whipped out and struck Shin mid-air, sending him tumbling backward. The fierce blow, combined with Kaido's seething wrath, was like a hurricane.
Shin crashed down, rolling several times before finally coming to a stop. Wiping the blood from his head, he murmured to himself, "I was careless. My battle awareness isn't as sharp as these veterans with years of experience."
In the sky, Kaido descended, shifting from his dragon form to his half-dragon, half-man state. His piercing gaze locked onto Shin, and he couldn't hide his surprise.
Shin had taken Kaido's haki-imbued strike without using haki to defend, relying solely on his physical resilience. Yet, despite the brutal impact, he seemed far from defeated.
