Naruto: From Konoha to One Piece

Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The Path to Freedom

To the people of Wano, today was just an ordinary day.

Some of the brainwashed citizens in the Flower Capital noticed nothing unusual, and the henchmen of Orochi felt no different either. The only minor surprise was the death of Kurozumi Semimaru, the barrier-barrier fruit user under Orochi, who passed away of old age a few days after a visit to the red-light district. Considering his appearance as an elderly man in his seventies or eighties, frail and trembling with each step, his death—while significant as Orochi's most powerful shield—wasn't entirely unexpected.

Since then, Orochi had become increasingly cautious. He now kept a significant distance when speaking to others and maintained a wary eye on anyone who approached. Although these precautions seemed extreme, the other nobles of the Flower Capital, familiar with Orochi's cowardice, were not surprised. They knew Orochi's fear of death was only natural.

Orochi also promoted the Dozing Kyoshiro, granting him a new title and the command of the guards in the Flower Capital, including the Oniwabanshu. To the nobles, this seemed like just another self-protection measure. Though they found Orochi's actions amusing, they continued to show respect outwardly, even if they were less than impressed with the actions of his new guard captain.

After about a month, Dozing Kyoshiro, now heading Oniwabanshu, laid a pile of intelligence reports on the table with a disgusted expression. "The nobility in the Flower Capital is truly rotten. In their consistent corruption, they never fail to disappoint."

Orochi, or rather Shin disguised as Orochi, picked up the reports calmly, flipping through them as he replied, "It's to be expected. A man like Orochi attracts only those who mirror his nature. It's no surprise that the only people who dared to stand against the Kaido Pirates were the Nine Red Scabbards. The downfall of the Kozuki Clan wasn't solely because of Orochi's schemes; there were deeper flaws in Wano's society that played a role."

He continued, "Orochi's governance was a catastrophe—little more than a twisted expression of hatred toward Wano itself. But he certainly knew how to attract and corrupt other power-hungry nobles."

In any country, holding the position of ruler doesn't guarantee control over every aspect of governance. Orochi's ability to ruin Wano yet retain his title indicated that he had a support base, a group of interest-seeking nobles who backed his authority. While seeing the land in such disrepair was infuriating, Shin knew he wouldn't have to waste time playing political games with them.

With the information in hand, Shin and his allies went to work. With Denjiro leading the charge, they executed swift and coordinated raids on the homes of these corrupt nobles. Those who resisted were captured; those who resisted further met their end. In a single night, the Flower Capital was bathed in blood, and the unfortunate nobles found themselves subdued while the lesser powers were integrated into Shin's ranks.

Meanwhile, Kozuki Hiyori also began her efforts. Wano's spirit was not entirely broken; remnants of the Kozuki Clan's influence lingered, as did warriors like Ashura Doji and Kawamatsu. Many skilled samurai were also imprisoned in the mines. Hiyori's reappearance rallied their spirits, and as word spread, these loyalists returned to the Flower Capital. After a careful reorganization, Shin placed these supporters in positions of authority to begin restoring Wano.

The former nobility's absence caused some initial disruption, but Wano's warriors and former leaders quickly restored order. The conditions for civilians began to show minor improvements. However, as long as Kaido and his Beast Pirates drained Wano's resources, true recovery would remain out of reach. A final confrontation with the Beast Pirates would be essential to Wano's liberation.

Although Shin was powerful enough to fight the Beast Pirates alone, he saw this as an opportunity to further hone his skills in haki. Kaido-sensei's reputation as a teacher of haki was well-known, and Shin decided he would challenge himself by avoiding the use of his ninjutsu in this upcoming battle, relying only on haki.

Based on his bloodline and chakra, Shin's physical strength was formidable, but his mastery of haki remained inferior to Kaido's. Without ninjutsu, facing Kaido directly would be an overwhelming challenge, so he would need allies to help him deal with the Beast Pirates.

On another front, Shin had been working on a project involving two devil fruit users he had captured recently. He aimed to test whether extracting Devil Fruits from their hosts was possible without killing them. While the dark-dark fruit could not accomplish this, Shin hoped that his Munch-Munch Fruit, with its ability to modify the body, would offer a viable solution.
