Naruto : Behind The Scenes Big Boss System

Chapter 54: Follow My Plan

(notice at the end of chapter!!)

"The forces in the southern part of the Land of Fire are complex. Although it's not as chaotic as the northern region, where a dozen or so mid-level clans are constantly at odds, it's still far from stable. The three major powers in the south are the Fūma Clan, the Aburame Clan, and the Chiba Clan. Originally, the Fūma and Chiba were evenly matched, with the Aburame slightly weaker. However, after we taught the Chiba Clan a lesson twenty years ago, their strength plummeted, becoming the weakest of the three. Who knows how much they've recovered since then? Regardless, with our strength, it's best to avoid conflict, finish the mission quickly, and get out."

Two figures were darting through the forest as one of them spoke.

Madara glanced at him, his interest lacking, and said, "Fine, fine. I'm just your helper this time. Everything will go according to your plan. I'd rather finish early anyway."

While Madara seemed indifferent, Izuna, on the other hand, was brimming with ambition, clearly ready to take action.

The Uchiha clan's main settlement wasn't far from the center of the Land of Fire, but their destination lay in the southwestern part of the country. The journey was even longer than Madara's previous pursuit of the Ketsueki Ninja. Even at their speed, it took them three full days to reach the borders of Uchiha territory.

Their first stop was to meet the Uchiha representative in the area, the former Third Elder, Uchiha Hō. It was Hō who had sent the message about spotting a Hyūga ninja.

When Hō saw the two of them, he was quite surprised but then chuckled bitterly. "Has the clan really become so short-staffed? I specifically said the mission required at least two Jōnin."

It was never pleasant to be underestimated, but since Madara wasn't the lead on this mission, he thought silently, What an ignorant old fool. No wonder you've been exiled here. Jōnin-level ninjas? I could take on three of them by myself.

Izuna stepped forward confidently. "You should be thankful. The two of us are far stronger than two Jōnin. Now, hurry up and give us the details."

"Are you sure the two of you can handle this?" Uchiha Hō asked once more.

Izuna smiled with confidence. "Of course. Do you think we came all this way just for fun?"

"Sit down." Hō gestured toward two cushions. Izuna and Madara sat down cross-legged. Ever since Izuna had seen Madara sit like this, he had unconsciously picked up the habit, finding it surprisingly comfortable.

"The information came from one of our spies in the south. They discovered that the Yamaki Clan has recently been secretly purchasing large amounts of grain. It's rumored that a Hyūga ninja has been seen within their ranks—likely a Jōnin. Your mission is to confirm whether this is true. If it is, eliminate the Hyūga Jōnin. If no Hyūga ninja is found, investigate the purpose of their grain purchases and where they intend to send it."

Izuna and Madara listened quietly, organizing the information in their minds. Izuna asked, "What's the strength of the Yamaki Clan? I only know their leader is a Jōnin, but I don't have much other information."

Uchiha Hō explained, "The Yamaki Clan is a subordinate of the Chiba Clan. It's a small family with only two Jōnin—the clan leader and his younger brother. The rest aren't worth noting."

Madara silently took note of this. So, at most, we'll be facing three Jōnin-level opponents.

"Alright, we understand the situation. We'll head out now and complete the mission. Wait for our good news." Izuna stood up confidently and started walking toward the door.

"Hey, I know you like to be decisive, but don't you think we should rest for the night? We've been traveling nonstop. This can't be good for us," Madara protested reluctantly. But since he had agreed to help, he could only sigh and follow Izuna out.

The two left, crossing completely out of Uchiha territory and into the southern part of the Land of Fire.

In a small town in the southern region, on the second floor of an inn, Madara was quietly eating the food that had just been brought to him. Though the taste was mediocre, it was far better than the rice balls and dry rations he'd been eating on the road. After days of constant travel, he desperately needed something more flavorful.

"I've got a space where time is frozen. Why didn't I think to store some meals in there? What a rookie mistake," Madara thought to himself, missing the cooking of his little maid back home.

While he was grumbling internally, Izuna burst through the door, sat down, and said, "I've scouted the Yamaki Clan. Their estate is east of the town—a large compound. We'll strike tonight."

Madara picked up a grilled fish from the table and said, "Alright, I've got a plan. First, we should secretly investigate the Yamaki Clan, figure out who their key members are and their daily habits. Then, we can capture someone important—like the clan leader's son—and extract the truth from them. Ideally, we could even locate the Hyūga Jōnin directly. Once we know where he is, we can team up and take him out."

Izuna shook his head. "Too complicated. We agreed to follow my plan. Tonight, I'll attack head-on and create a distraction. While they're focused on me, you sneak in and locate their grain storage. Set it on fire. If the Hyūga Jōnin is there, he won't be able to sit still. He'll come out on his own, and we'll take him down together."

Izuna confidently laid out his plan, helping himself to a bowl of rice.

Madara froze with the grilled fish halfway to his mouth, staring at Izuna. Is this really what you call a plan? Summed up in two words: brute force. The problem is, you're not yet the invincible Izuna of twenty years from now. You're still just a kid. Do you really have to be this bold?

Noticing Madara's look, Izuna calmly explained, "I've calculated their strength. Including the Hyūga Jōnin, there are at most three Jōnin-level opponents. Based on your previous mission against the Ketsueki Ninja, you can handle one Jōnin easily. With your space-time ninjutsu, you could even hold off two. Once I finish one off, we'll team up and easily win."

"Where's your confidence coming from? Last time, when the Hyūga attacked, you almost died at the hands of one of their Jōnin," Madara asked, puzzled. Facing three Jōnin wasn't a big concern for him—he could win even without using Kamui. But Izuna's confidence seemed excessive.

Izuna smiled. "Don't worry. Since that close call, I've grown a lot. I'm not the same person I was back then. Together, we'll be invincible."

"Maybe ten years from now," Madara thought to himself. But he trusted Izuna's judgment. If Izuna said he could handle one Jōnin, it wasn't just empty talk.
