Naruto: All Genders are reversed except for me

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Eat as You Like, I'll Put It on the Boss's Tab

Naruto obtained the seasoning he wanted.

Without hesitation, he started taking out kunai (throwing blades) and began scraping the scales off the fish, then cut open their bellies to remove the innards.

Before long, the three large, fatty carp were all cleaned up.

Just as Naruto stood up, he saw Sasuke stacking a small pile of firewood together, then forming hand seals with both hands.

"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"

Since it wasn't for battle, but simply to start a fire, this fireball was only the size of a fist.

Although small, the fireball still had enough power to ignite the dry branches immediately.

"Mm, quick with your hands. I've just finished prepping the fish," Naruto complimented.

Sasuke, though outwardly unfazed, couldn't help feeling a slight sense of pride at Naruto's praise.

"Are you hungry?"

Naruto walked over to the campfire, sat down, and selected three sharp sticks, preparing to skewer the fish.

"Hmph, not hungry..." Sasuke, not wanting to appear weak in front of Naruto, resisted the rumbling in her stomach and said this reluctantly.

However, as soon as she finished speaking, Naruto clearly heard a loud "growl" from her stomach.

"How about... we wait an hour before grilling the fish?" Naruto said with a sunny smile, looking at the black line on Sasuke's face.

"Hmph... there's only so much dry wood, once it's used up, I'm not going to gather more. And if the fire goes out, you'll have to figure out how to restart it yourself."

Seeing Sasuke's haughty, defiant expression, Naruto couldn't help but laugh.

This was so typical of Sasuke's character.

"Alright, since you don't agree, we'll start now."

With that, Naruto took out his kunai again, slashing deep cuts across the backs of the three fish.

Sasuke, who had never seen this technique before, was curious and watched closely.

"Why are you cutting them like that?"

"Oh, it makes the fish absorb the flavor better. Yesterday, we didn't have the special seasoning, so I skipped this step."

Hearing the mention of "special seasoning," Sasuke was intrigued. She had never heard of such a term before, and it piqued her curiosity.

As Sasuke continued to watch, Naruto took out more and more seasonings from his canvas bag, each one more unfamiliar to Sasuke than the last.

She watched in fascination and instinctively pointed to a fine crystalline powder on the ground, "Naruto, what's this?"

"Heh heh, that's my exclusive secret seasoning formula."

Naruto grinned, confidently pointing at each ingredient as he introduced them one by one: "This is salt, MSG, chicken essence, pepper, cumin chili powder, and steamed fish soy sauce."

Listening to Naruto's introduction, Sasuke was at a loss. She only recognized salt and pepper; the rest were unfamiliar terms, ones she had neither seen nor heard of before.

Naruto didn't bother to explain further. After all, he needed someone from the Naruto world to taste these seasonings and see if they matched their palate.

He carefully applied the steamed fish soy sauce evenly on the three fish, then sprinkled a fine layer of salt, MSG, chicken essence, and pepper, both inside and out.

Though Sasuke had seen her mother, Mikoto, cook many times before, including preparing fish, she had never seen this particular method. It was so new and intriguing to her.

"Why did you stop? Isn't there one more seasoning to add?" Sasuke pointed to the chili powder.

"No, not yet. It has to wait for the perfect moment."

"So why aren't you starting to cook the fish yet?" Sasuke pouted slightly. She hadn't eaten all day, and by now, her stomach was growling loudly.

"Well... this is a necessary step, called marinating the flavors," Naruto explained. "If we start grilling now, the taste will only stay on the surface of the fish. The inside will still be bland. So, the flavor needs time to soak in. Don't rush."

Seeing Sasuke pout again, Naruto smiled, "It'll only take three minutes."

"Okay." Sasuke reluctantly agreed upon hearing that it would only take three minutes.

Naruto didn't just explain the steps to Sasuke for the sake of filling up space—he had his own plans in mind.

Sasuke was a genius, so she would likely grasp everything after one detailed explanation.

When the food stall opened and they started selling grilled fish, all these little details on marinating could be smoothly handed over to Sasuke.

As a genius of the Uchiha clan, she couldn't admit she hadn't learned it, could she?

Three minutes passed in the blink of an eye.

Not wanting to keep Sasuke waiting, Naruto immediately skewered the three fish on sticks and placed them by the fire to cook evenly. During the process, he also explained the finer points of heat control and some common grilling mistakes.

Sasuke was captivated by his explanations. She just couldn't wait to find out what the fish would taste like, especially since she was extremely hungry by now.

If it weren't for the fact that the fish was still raw, she might have asked Naruto if it was okay to eat it yet.

Less than three minutes later, the area was filled with the savory scent of fish oil. Since this time the grilled fish was for his business venture, Naruto made sure to avoid the overly charred look from yesterday.

After all, eating at home and selling to customers were two entirely different matters.

Naruto focused on all three fish, his attention sharp, his eyes locked on the fire.

This scene made Sasuke pause in surprise. In her memories, Naruto was either asleep in class or causing trouble, so who would have thought he could be so focused?

And, upon closer inspection, Naruto's focused expression was... kind of... attractive.

The moment this thought crossed her mind, Sasuke's cheeks flushed red. She quickly tried to suppress it, thankfully, Naruto hadn't seen her.

As the aroma of the grilled fish grew stronger, Sasuke couldn't help but swallow her saliva. She swore she had never smelled anything this delicious in her life.

"Naruto... is it ready?" she asked eagerly.

Before she could finish her sentence, Naruto stiffened and shouted, "Now!"

With a swift motion, he reached for the cumin chili powder, which was yellowish-red, and raised his arm in a V shape. With a flick of his fingers, a fine mist of powder fell evenly over the fish like frost.

The chili powder, combined with the intense heat of the grilled fish, immediately released a unique fragrance into the air.

The whole area was now saturated with the smell of grilled fish.

"Done!"

Naruto had perfectly timed the cooking and the application of the seasoning.

As the three fish, their skins now orange-red and glistening with oil, were removed from the fire, Sasuke's eyes widened in excitement.

"Here, try it. Be careful, it's hot."

Naruto handed Sasuke the largest fish.

Normally, with Sasuke's proud personality, she might hesitate and act coy. But today was different. Not only was she so hungry she felt faint, but this was a type of grilled fish she had never seen before. She set aside her pride and eagerly accepted the offer.

"Mm."

Sasuke carefully took the golden grilled fish, her big eyes glistening with excitement. Naruto couldn't tell if it was from being moved or just from hunger.

But regardless, this was a crucial step in Naruto's plan to make money. If Sasuke thought it was good, or had any suggestions, he could adjust it.

After all, they were from two different worlds—what if the people here didn't like the taste?

If the customers complained, saying it tasted bad, his reputation would be ruined and no one would come. How could he then achieve his grand ambitions and ultimate freedom?

"I'm going to eat now," Sasuke said, her eyes sparkling. She blew on the fish's spine to cool it down and then took a small bite.

Even though she blew on it, the freshly grilled fish was still scalding hot, and Sasuke quickly blew on it a few more times before finally taking a bite.

After three tries, she slowly started to chew.

Naruto, watching intently, was anxious. His worst fear was that Sasuke would spit it out with a "yuck" and reject it.

But his greatest worry didn't come to pass. Instead, the next thing that happened left Naruto stunned.

The proud, cold Sasuke was actually crying.

"Ah... so it's so bad you can't spit it out, and that's why you're crying?"

"Great, it's a failure," Naruto muttered as he was about to toss the remaining two fish aside.

However, the next moment, Sasuke choked out, "What are you doing? If you don't want it, give it to me... sob sob."

Hearing this, Naruto froze, his eyes wide in disbelief as he stared at Sasuke's teary face. He thought to himself, "She's not crying because it tastes bad, but... because it's too good?"

"Mm-hmm... What's not delicious?" Sasuke, tears still streaming down her face, chewed a large mouthful of grilled fish while stammering, "Anyone in class who dares to say it's bad, I'll beat them up. I've never had anything this delicious in my life."

Upon hearing this, Naruto couldn't help but ask in surprise, "If it's so delicious, why are you crying?"

Since Naruto had already seen her in a vulnerable state the past couple of days, Sasuke decided to be blunt, "I'm crying because... why did you only grill three fish? It's definitely not enough!"

"Really... it's that good?" Naruto double-checked, still unsure.

"If I'm lying, I'm a little dog!" Sasuke seemed completely charmed by the delicious fish, nodding vigorously like a chick pecking at food.

"Great… that's wonderful."

Naruto was overjoyed and handed over another fish.

"Eat, go ahead, eat as much as you want. I'll put this meal on the boss's tab!"
