My years as a superhero in Marvel

Chapter 150: Chapter 15: Private Conversation

Nick Fury's private residence in a boutique apartment building under the Four Seasons Hotel in Long Island, New York. This is Nick's own personal space.

As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he is far from being as glorious as he appears to be.

The greater the power, the greater the obligation. This is almost an eternal truth. Of course, if you don't care about your future reputation at all, or if you don't have any beliefs that need to be upheld, you can ignore this sentence.

Rights and obligations were formed in the primitive human civilization tens of thousands of years ago. At that time, the strongest warriors enjoyed the best food in the tribe.

Have the most spouses and live in the best house.

But all these warriors enjoy is not free. When the tribe needs him to sacrifice, he has no choice but to give up his life.

Perhaps in a war with other tribes, or perhaps while hunting a dangerous prey.

No matter how human civilization changes, this unwritten rule still exists, even if for some reasons and under certain conditions.

Some people, or a specific group, enjoy extraordinary treatment but fail to fulfill corresponding obligations.

Then one day they will spit out what they don't deserve. Maybe it will take a long time, but the longer it takes, the greater the price they will pay.

Nick Fury, a veteran who participated in the Vietnam War and was even rumored to have participated in World War II, is a byproduct of Captain America's super soldier program.

However, Nick Fury's files are top secret, and it is impossible for outsiders to truly know how many great achievements Nick Fury has made in his legendary life.

He has experienced many battles and choices in his life that are unimaginable to ordinary people. When it is necessary to sacrifice some people to save more people.

Nick would sacrifice those people without hesitation, and this was not because he was cold-blooded, but because he had to take responsibility for his position.

It may sound cruel, even cold-blooded, but believe me, this is a decision that someone in a high position must make.

An excellent person in power must not only earn enough praise, but also have enough courage to bear more infamy.

But all these things do not mean that Nick Fury himself is an emotionless animal.

In fact, as a veteran who has walked out of a sea of blood and corpses, Nick understands the importance of every life even more.

Some people say that too much war and killing will make people lose themselves and forget all the beauty and warmth.

But at the same time, more wars and killings will make another part of the people understand the importance of peace better, and cherish life and the beauty of this world more.

Nick Fury belongs to the latter. What is hidden under his gloomy one eye is not the arrogance of monopolizing power, but more expectations for the world.

He hopes that the world will become a better and safer place.

But just as a coin has two sides, where there are flowers there are words, where there is light there is darkness.

Everyone yearns for light, and she represents all the beauty in the world.

But the dark side is what everyone is afraid of. Because if you want to dissolve into the darkness, you will probably fall into it and eventually find it difficult to extricate yourself.

Even those with bright hearts will find it difficult to escape from it all in the end.

When it comes to the most crucial choice in life, when it comes to choosing between light and darkness, Nick puts himself in the latter.

Not everything SHIELD does is aboveboard, and sometimes the ends justify the means. If this terrible power agency does not have a suitable leader.

It will become the most terrifying organization in the world, far inferior to the Gestapo of the past.

Not everyone can become a legendary figure like Peggy Carter. (Note: One of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America's liaison officer and girlfriend.)

When Nick took over S.H.I.E.L.D., he already felt that the agency was slowly deviating from its original purpose.

It is no longer the organization created to protect the world, or in other words, protecting the world and fighting evil are no longer the main purpose of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It has become a puppet of big men and a battleground for politics and power. Everyone wants to get involved and everyone wants to get a piece of the pie in this huge organization.

But they didn't really understand how much trouble their actions would bring to SHIELD, just as Jason hated before.

There are always self-righteous people in this world who do nothing but stir up conflict and create tension.

When Nick took over S.H.I.E.L.D., he already found that the organization was riddled with problems, and he became the repairman of this broken ship.

The one-eyed man always has his own way. He can always rescue the ship when it is about to sink or hit a reef.

He once thought he had succeeded, but after that meeting in Washington, he knew that what he had done was a joke.

There are still various spies in SHIELD, and information, especially important information, is leaking out like water.

The X-Men's plan was rejected, and they faced more and more problems. Nick deeply felt that his life choices were sometimes a mistake.

But as soon as he had this thought, he would forget it after just three minutes, because he was Nick Fury, an indomitable fighter.

But even the strongest steel can bend, and even the strongest warrior can be defeated.

When a report about stirring up trouble between mutants and ordinary people appeared on TV, Nick wanted to tear that loudmouthed Macaulay to pieces.

As a real person in power, he understands better how complicated the situation will be after these things happen.

However, there are no longer a few members of Congress who are prejudiced against mutants, and there is even more prejudice against mutants among the public.

In order to gain votes and support, politicians will follow public opinion, and they don't care whether this public opinion is right or wrong.

Anyway, it was you, the voters, who asked for it. Look! I did what you asked. If anything goes wrong, please don't blame me.

Because that's what you pig-brained people want!

Nick needed to drink a bottle of strong liquor, but he couldn't drink it in SHIELD, because there, he had to always look like he had a sure win.

Because only in this way can he ensure that his subordinates have enough confidence to obey him.

This private secret apartment is his only quiet place, where he can drink a bottle of whiskey like crazy.

Without worrying about anyone blaming him. Of course, due to Nick's own personality, it is basically impossible for him to do such a crazy thing.

He would stop after three glasses of neat whiskey at most because his job required him to stay sober.

But there are exceptions to everything, such as when I was with Frank, the old friend who had risked his life for him during the Vietnam War.

In front of him, Nick could occasionally relax and take off some of the mask.

A person who has no friends, or no one to confide his emotions to, is pathetic, because neither joy nor sadness means much to him.

Nick and Frank were staying in a private apartment on Long Island, and they had already drunk nearly half a bottle of Brazilian cachaça.

"You know what I hate most about this job?" Nick had about four glasses of wine, but he had a lot to say.

"I know a lot of secrets, but others don't. These secrets I know are not something I can show off. Instead, they will put me in an embarrassing situation because of some stupid decisions."

Frank didn't respond. He added a mint leaf to his liqueur.

"Sometimes I think I should have died in Vietnam. I didn't like that war, and it will never be a glorious thing for me, either before or after."

"People will only remember the American soldiers who massacred civilians and raped women, and of course the inhumane chemical warfare. And the damn politicians who made all these decisions are still alive and well."

"They let the president come out and apologize, and then they can retire and enjoy their old age in peace, while our names will be nailed to the pillar of shame."

"Do you know why I haven't ?" Nick brought up a somewhat heavy topic.

"I think you have the same idea as me." Frank stirred the sugar cane wine with mint leaves and finally spoke.

"We all expect to die the most heroically in a great and glorious war. We actually can do nothing but kill people, and when the world doesn't need us to kill people anymore, we will become the most pathetic people."

"We spend our lives killing people, sometimes for the people, most of the time for the government, and now I quit because someone told me I could do it for conviction and justice," Frank said after taking a sip of mint cane liquor.

"When the world no longer needs me to kill people, I will keep the last bullet for myself. I believe you will do the same."

"Cheers to the damn world." Nick did not say whether he agreed with Frank or not, but raised his glass and said.

"Cheers to this beautiful and ugly world." Frank and Nick clinked their glasses and drank the wine in their glasses in one gulp.

"I want to form a team of superheroes." Nick said, and started talking about more serious topics. "And I'm seriously short-handed right now. There are many things in this world that ordinary people can't deal with. For example, the one you solved in Hell's Kitchen."

"I don't care how you solve it, and I need help now. I think you should understand what I mean." Nick Fury said and stared at Frank.

Frank did not answer Nick's question, but asked a seemingly unrelated question. "Do you feel that everything is under control?"
