Chapter 53: fireborn is here
The day had come.
Fireborn was arriving today.
It was exactly 12:00 PM.
In the bathroom, Lasa was drying her hair with a towel, still damp from the shower.
Suddenly — BANG!
Giel burst through the door.
"Lasa!!—"
Lasa screamed:
"HEYYY!! I'M NOT WEARING ANYTHING!!"
Giel shouted back while slamming the door shut:
"SORRYYYY!!!"
From behind the closed door, he added:
"The portals…
They're opening."
In the living room, everyone was getting ready.
They set up what little they had — armor, weapons, cloaks.
Mike knew the truth.
Fireborn was stronger than him in raw level.
But Mike had something else —
his wolves,
his training,
and his General… Shadow.
Meanwhile, on the news:
"No one knows who they are, but entire armies of knights are marching through the streets—
And wait— this just in—
A massive dragon just emerged from a portal!!
I… I can't believe this.
Someone is RIDING the dragon!
I'm leaving the city. Right now. Goodbye."
Mike turned off the TV.
"Alright… the soldiers are attacking from the eastern edge of the city,
and that dragon… it's in the city center."
His voice was cold. Calm. Focused.
And Fireborn…
stood on top of the tallest tower in the entire city.
Mike unsheathed the Dragon Sword.
He turned to Shadow.
"With this blade, I ended your evil life.
Now, take it.
Use it to slay that dragon in the city."
Shadow, without hesitation, handed Mike his spear.
"I'll return it to you once this is over.
Fight with my spear until then," Shadow said.
Mike nodded.
He was more than ready.
He opened the door.
Everyone stood in silence.
They hugged one another.
Mike gave them one last look.
"Don't you dare die, okay?"
And then—
"MOVE OUT!"
Mike and Shadow ran off together into the chaos.
Giel, Kad, Has, and Lasa went in the opposite direction.
As they sprinted down an alley, Giel muttered:
"You think they'll still recognize us?"
Kad replied:
"Come on, this is the middle of an invasion.
I'm sure we'll be fine—just this once."
They arrived at a massive portal crackling with dark energy.
Giel unsheathed his sword, eyes sharp, and charged forward.
He cut through the knights like they were made of paper.
Has stepped up, summoned his light magic, and fired a powerful beam straight through the enemy ranks.
The portal began to tremble.
More troops were pouring out.
At a sharp intersection, Mike and Shadow separated.
Mike yelled one last thing:
"I'm counting on you, General!"
Shadow leapt up to a nearby balcony.
That's when he saw it—
the dragon.
Colossal.
It should have been impossible to miss.
But with his helmet on and magic suppressed, Shadow was unseen.
He sprinted rooftop to rooftop, then leapt onto the beast's back.
With a single strike, he slashed a deep line down its spine.
The dragon roared and thrashed.
Shadow was thrown off—
but stopped his fall with magic before hitting the ground.
Meanwhile…
Mike climbed the tallest building in the city.
At the very top, standing calmly on the edge, was…
Fireborn.
He turned around slowly.
"Well, well, well… so you're ready after all.
You know who fought up here, don't you?
Me—
and your father."
Mike's eyes burned with rage.
"Shut the hell up and fight!"
He hurled the spear with all his strength—
but before it even reached Fireborn, it was shattered into pieces.
Too fast.
Mike could barely even follow it.
The dragon thrashed violently, trying to shake Shadow off.
Shadow was launched into the air—
but mid-flight, he twisted his body and flipped.
With precision, he landed perfectly on the rooftop of a nearby building.
The beast let out a thunderous roar,
and then—
It unleashed a storm of fireballs from its mouth.
But Shadow was ready.
He gripped the Dragon Sword, the very weapon Mike had once used against him,
and with a flurry of fast, precise slashes—
he deflected each and every fireball
One after another, he cut them down mid-air,
the flames bursting harmlessly around him.
Then—
Shadow bent his knees, his aura flaring.
He jumped.
Soaring high, he flew directly toward the dragon's face, eyes locked with the beast's glowing pupils.
His black armor reflected the fire around him,
and with his sword raised high,
Shadow shouted—
"YOU'RE MINE!"
