A trace of relief appeared on Mafuyu Sensei's face.
If Renz had shown an attitude of 'I don't want to learn' or 'don't bother me anymore,' Kirisu Mafuyu would have tried a few times and then given up on him. It wasn't a problem to be a bad Sensei; what was truly frightening was a student unwilling to learn properly.
Given Renz's attitude, Kirisu Mafuyu felt that her hard work at the computer had not been in vain. The systematically selected questions she filtered were all centered around Renz's weak points identified in the diagnostic test. Kirisu Mafuyu was prepared to explain every single question.
"Well then, see you tomorrow," Kirisu Mafuyu said, returning to her office. She still had some things to tidy up before leaving.
As their apartments were completely on the same route, even next door to each other, Renz decided to wait for Kirisu Mafuyu to pack her teaching materials so they could go back together. The main reason for this was to ask Kirisu Mafuyu to help look after Mashiro Shiina this weekend.
When Kirisu Mafuyu, after handing the test paper to Renz and returning to her office to pack her books to go home, came out again, she paused slightly upon seeing Renz still there.
"Are you waiting for me?" Kirisu Mafuyu asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Yes, we're going the same way anyway, so we might as well look out for each other," Renz said, thinking. He couldn't state his true purpose too early; it might seem too calculating. He'd find an opportunity to bring it up once they reached the apartment. Then, he'd go pick up Mashiro Shiina from school.
Kirisu Mafuyu nodded. The apartment next door hadn't had a new occupant in a long time. Renz had just moved in and was a foreign student, unfamiliar with the area. It was normal for him to want to walk home with someone going the same way for safety.
The two boarded the train.
Throughout the journey, they remained silent, following each other without a single word. Despite being on the same route, the atmosphere was incredibly awkward. It wasn't until they returned to the apartment building that they exchanged the social formality of 'see you tomorrow.'
Because he didn't know her preferences, Renz couldn't find a single topic of conversation. Thus, in silence, they returned home, and Renz still hadn't found an opportunity to express his request for Mafuyu Sensei to look after Mashiro Shiina over the weekend.
Looking at the test paper in front of him, Renz realized he couldn't procrastinate any longer. Either he went to pick up Mashiro Shiina now, or he went to the Sensei's apartment next door to make his request. Otherwise, there would be no point in having walked together. The whole purpose of accompanying her was to get a bit closer, become 'acquaintances,' and then find an opportunity to make this request.
Who would have thought that Kirisu Mafuyu wouldn't say a word on the way? Renz also felt awkward talking on the train. After getting off, he wanted to speak and make his request, but hesitated several times, and Kirisu Mafuyu didn't take the initiative to offer any conversation topics. This led to Renz's complete defeat.
"Knock, knock, knock…" Renz took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
The door didn't open.
Inside the apartment, Kirisu Mafuyu was frantically scratching her head.
Why hadn't she said a word after getting off the train? Because Kirisu Mafuyu suddenly realized a problem: her apartment was full of trash! It was all trash: un-disposed takeout containers, scattered cosmetics, and some women's intimate clothing and tissues. The most terrifying thing was that all these items were mixed together.
The thought of Renz coming to her apartment for tutoring that evening made her realize that such an environment would hardly uphold her dignity as a Sensei. It would completely ruin her image as a Sensei! This was precisely why Kirisu Mafuyu had been too embarrassed to speak on the way. She just wanted to get home quickly, clean up the trash, and maintain her perfect, brilliant image as a Sensei.
Who would have thought that as soon as she got home, Kirisu Mafuyu would 'relapse'? Seeing the whole room filled with trash, she felt overwhelmed, thought it would be difficult to deal with, decided to put it off, and then deal with it later. Her procrastination relapsed, and she just lay down on her bed.
"Wait!" Kirisu Mafuyu yelled towards the door, bursting with energy far beyond her usual, meticulously and swiftly gathering all the trash in the room with astonishing speed, wrapping up the takeout packaging. One black plastic bag after another gradually formed in the living room, piling up into three large bags.
Five minutes later, Kirisu Mafuyu wiped a cold sweat from her brow. Her usually expressionless face actually held a smile, though it wasn't directed at Renz but a dry laugh to cover up some of her bad habits.
Renz, standing outside the door, heard all sorts of loud noises from inside but didn't know what was happening. However, seeing Mafuyu Sensei open the apartment door, he figured everything must be fine.
"Can I help you, Renz-kun? Are you here for tutoring? Please come in!" Kirisu Mafuyu spoke with lightning speed, her demeanor completely opposite to the aloof Sensei she had been on the train.
After dealing with the trash inside, Kirisu Mafuyu felt a huge burden lifted, and her speech became much more relaxed.
Renz shook his head. Look at the time. If he delayed any longer, Mashiro Shiina would be waiting to death at school. Besides, after picking Mashiro up from school, he still had to go manage his restaurant.
"It's like this, over the weekend, I have an event to attend. You know, my cousin lives in my apartment," Renz said, no longer daring to hesitate or overthink. "During the event, I might not be able to look after her. I hope Kirisu Sensei can help me with this!" Renz bowed deeply: "Please! I'd be very grateful!"
His tone was exceptionally earnest. Faced with such a legitimate request, Kirisu Mafuyu couldn't refuse at all! But the biggest problem was...
Kirisu Mafuyu was very good at teaching people, but honestly, when it came to looking after people, she sometimes struggled to even look after herself. In such a situation, to have to look after someone else would be too demanding!
However, hearing Renz's words, it seemed he regarded her as an omnipotent, strong female Sensei. This heavy trust made Kirisu Mafuyu unsure how to refuse. Should she confess that she couldn't even take care of herself and that looking after others was too difficult? That would destroy the 'perfect female Sensei' image she had painstakingly cultivated.
Kirisu Mafuyu thought deeply for a moment. She quietly asked, "How long will you need me to look after her?"
"Oh, just for lunch and dinner. I'll be back in the evening, and if I can't, I'll call you, Kirisu Sensei," Renz explained.
"Is that all?" Kirisu Mafuyu heard this and thought it didn't sound too difficult. Lunch, dinner. That would roughly be from morning until evening. Although she couldn't cook, Kirisu Mafuyu could order takeout. What was so hard about having a girl stay at her house and entrusting her care? Surely she wasn't some kind of difficult-to-care-for monster?
"No problem," Kirisu Mafuyu agreed. "Looking after students is easy for a Sensei."
"Then thank you so much, Kirisu Sensei!" Renz breathed a sigh of relief. Had the problem of Mashiro being alone at home been solved just like that?
Great! This way, in the future, he could always ask Kirisu Sensei to help look after Mashiro if anything came up.
"By the way, Kirisu Sensei, why do you have three garbage bags in your living room? Do you need me to help you throw them in the downstairs trash can?" Renz asked. From the corner of his eye, he had noticed the three neatly placed garbage bags and sensed something was off, though he couldn't quite pinpoint what.
A Sensei like Kirisu Mafuyu, who cared about her image and was always willing to help, surely wouldn't have any problems with housework, right? So, what was the deal with these three garbage bags? Had they accumulated over several days and she just forgot to throw them out?
