My Hitman System

Chapter 171: Campfire [2] (E)

Specy removed his glasses and sighed. There was no pressure on him, but he felt like sharing his last, which he never did tonight.

"It's a pity we don't have any cigarettes," Specy muttered.

His words attracted everyone's attention as they waited for him to speak.

Gazing at the vast starry sky, Specy formed the words in his mind and finally spoke, "It happened five years ago, I was driving back home with my family after a beautiful vacation.

It was a pleasant vacation after an exhausting work schedule. I was glad that I was finally able to give time to my wife and my ten-year-old daughter.

Everything was going so well. It was then that a blue car dashed into the car from the side.

The last thing I remember was my wife's horrified expression when the car was in the air.

The next moment, everything went dark. I woke up in the hospital with several stitches, a broken leg and a horrified face. I immediately asked for my wife and daughter, only to find out that they were dead.

As for the car that hit us? It was said that a chauffeur was driving the car and lost control.

The chauffeur who got only minor injuries was soon sentenced to life imprisonment.

That's what they kept repeating on the news.

When police had come to take my statement, I told them that I don't remember anything, and they took their leave with a relieved expression.

In reality, I had lied about my wife's face being the last memory I had. After the car crash, my consciousness returned for a while.

Through my overturned car's window, I saw a child about fifteen to sixteen years old crying loudly and calling someone for help.

From that, it wasn't difficult for me to find out the real identity of the driver. The car was a limited-edition sports car and was registered under Mathew Madson, the current chairman of the multinational company, Grior.

There were several rumours going on about the incident, and many people doubted whether it was truly the chauffeur who was driving that night, but the voices were soon silenced.

I understood what was going on and acted ignorant. After mourning my family's death, I started my rehabilitation. It took a whole year to regain my mobility.

By then, a clear goal had been formed in my mind: the destruction of Mathew Madson and everything related to him.

I knew that with my skills, I would not even be able to do that, so I became a hitman.

I gave up my previous job as a software developer, changed my identity and joined the organisation as one of its killers. It took four years, but now I'm finally at this level where I can do some significant damage to them.

That's my story," Specy smiled to signify the end.

Seeing his lively expression right now, no one would be able to guess that he had gone through such tragic times.

Unknowingly, Specy's story had made him closer to the group. It also gave confidence to the rest to share their own ordeals.

"The next person in line is me," Shadow volunteered and said, "but before that, let's pick our snakes, or they'll burn."

It was only now that the rest of them had noticed this, and the smell of cooked meat wafted through their nose and raised their appetite.

Each of them grabbed the branch, which was being used as a skewer and took a bite.

"Delicious," Specy complimented.

"Indeed," Shadow responded while Jin and Icee showed their agreement with a nod.

"So let me begin," Shadow adjusted his throat and started, "I was in the military in Morose, a naval officer to be precise. It was a tough job, but satisfying. The regular morning drills and routinely going over the same thing every day, so that we could build a muscle memory.

It was tedious, but at the end of the day, I always slept satisfied. I served in several ships during my seven years before being appointed to the administrative branch on shore.

I was disappointed with the shore job because of the lack of action but was also grateful to it. I was able to meet my girlfriend thanks to that. We started dating, and everything seemed to be falling in place.

I had a good career and was about to marry a good woman as well. It was then that I started noticing some discrepancies in the procurement documents of a destroyer we are buying from Roscota.

Initially, I just reported it to my senior, who said that it wasn't a big deal.

Later, for last-minute verification, I had to take a flight to Roscosta to inspect the vessel.

It was supposed to be just a light routine inspection as the deal was already finalised, but to my surprise, the vessel was in horrendous condition and nothing like what I had been informed about earlier.

In my report, I wrote everything and submitted it to my senior and refused the agent's attempt to bribe me and keep shut.

Upon hearing no response from my senior, I directly sent a written mail to a Rear Admiral because the buying date was very close.

The next day, four people from the naval police invaded my house and imprisoned me.

I got to know that I would be getting court-martialled the day after the deal happens for violating several military protocols.

I laughed at my predicament at that time. I wanted to do good for my country, and instead of praise, I was going to be court-martialled.

My mind snapped. A week later when I was being transported to the court, I took the excuse for a piss, killed the guard who was keeping check on me and soon escaped the country.

Since then, I've changed my identity, and I'm working for KIA. My goal? It's to infiltrate my country's navy and kill every high-ranking officer who failed to protect an honest officer,"

A hateful expression formed on Shadow's face before he finally noticed the snake in his hand.

"Ah!…it's all cold now," He sighed in disappointment and took a bite of the rubbery meat in disappointment.

Shadow and Specy's gaze then turned towards Jin. It was the same for Ice.
