Chapter 29: Forbidden Summer
The dorm was quiet—eerily quiet. The usual commotion of Class 1-A was absent, leaving only the faint hum of the air conditioning and the soft rustling of leaves outside the windows. For Kikidori, the silence had once been a comfort, but now it felt... different.
It wasn't lonely anymore. Not with Toga there.
The two of them sat on the couch in the Bakusquad common room, a bag of chips between them and a half-finished movie playing on the television. Kikidori was half paying attention to the screen, his mind elsewhere, as Toga leaned casually against his arm, her golden eyes darting between him and the movie.
"You're so serious all the time," she said suddenly, breaking the silence.
Kikidori glanced at her, his green and blue eyes meeting hers. "I'm not serious. I just don't... mess around like you do."
Toga smirked, her face lighting up with mischief. "Maybe you should. You might actually have fun."
Before he could respond, she shifted closer, her face mere inches from his. "You're so tense, Kiki. Relax a little."
"Toga," he started, his voice low with warning.
But before he could finish, she leaned in and kissed him.
It wasn't like the playful pecks she'd given him before, the ones he always avoided or brushed off. This was different. It was slow, deliberate, and full of emotion. For a moment, Kikidori froze, his mind racing. He should pull away. He should push her back. But instead, he found himself leaning in, his hands instinctively moving to her waist as he kissed her back.
The world seemed to fall away, the silence of the dorm amplifying the sound of their breaths and the racing of Kikidori's heart.
When they finally pulled apart, Toga's cheeks were flushed, and her golden eyes sparkled with a mix of excitement and something softer—something real. "You kissed me back," she whispered, her voice almost a question.
Kikidori looked away, his face warm. "Yeah... I did."
Toga grinned, practically glowing with joy. "Does this mean—"
"Don't push it," Kikidori interrupted, though his tone lacked its usual edge.
Toga only laughed, pulling herself closer to him, her head resting against his chest. "You're stuck with me now, Kiki."
The rest of the night passed in a blur of stolen kisses and whispered conversations. With the dorms empty for the summer, there was no one to interrupt them, no one to question the growing bond between a hero in training and a villain.
They were free to just be themselves—free to enjoy the quiet moments and the chaos that came with being together. And for the first time in a long time, Kikidori felt like maybe, just maybe, he didn't have to fight the world alone.
The end of Chapter 29.
