Chapter 33: Chapter 33: The Two Become Friends

Su Yu's ability to read Yuigahama Yui's emotions had nothing to do with supernatural powers.

It was simply—her expression.

When Haruno had playfully said she was looking forward to Su Yu and Yukino being together, Yui's face had changed—a brief moment of hesitation, a downcast gaze.

That moment had given her away.

It was clear—the words had hit her heart.

That was why Su Yu had asked that question. It was a test—one that confirmed his suspicions.

She was feeling insecure.

She might even step aside, allowing Yukino and Su Yu to be together.

But—as Su Yu had said—

They weren't even truly together yet, so how could they break up?

And so—his words and his embrace had eased her unease.

At the same time—

Su Yu had planted a seed.

If anyone ever saw him and Yukino together in the future, Yui would remember his words. He would always have an explanation ready.

That night, he whispered sweet words to her for over ten minutes—

…while letting his hands wander.

This time—

Yui didn't stop him.

She let Su Yu's hands rest there, not resisting.

A few minutes later—

Su Yu withdrew his hand.

Then, looking at her blushing, embarrassed face—

"Tomorrow, I'll take my time teasing you. For now, I need to focus on the anime's music."

"…I-I'm going to find Yukino and learn how to cook."

Flustered, Yui fled the room.

A Conversation Between Girls

In the kitchen—

As Yui opened the door, she saw Yukino staring off into space.

Hearing the door, Yukino turned her head.

"Yukinoshita-san, can I watch you cook?" Yui asked softly.

"Of course." Yukino replied.

With a bright smile, Yui stepped into the kitchen.

Yukino glanced at her—then suddenly remembered Haruno's words from earlier.

A hint of guilt crept into her heart.

"…Yuigahama-san, I'm sorry. My sister enjoys teasing me. You don't have to take her words seriously."

"Actually… I don't think she was wrong." Yui hesitated, then spoke honestly.

"I think Su Yu-kun is amazing. And you, Yukino, are amazing too."

"If you two were together, you'd make a great couple."

Yukino froze.

For a moment, she couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"I was actually thinking about stepping aside. Letting you have Su Yu-kun."

Yui continued.

"…Yuigahama-san…"

"But then Su Yu-kun saw right through me."

She smiled bitterly.

"He said, 'We aren't even together yet, so how could we break up?'"

"He said so many things to make me feel at ease."

"And after thinking about it, I realized—if I gave up now, I'd only be hurting him."

Then, she took a deep breath.

"So—if you ever truly fall in love with Su Yu-kun, please tell me."

"I want to compete with you—fair and square."

"Even if I lose… I still want to be your lifelong friend."

Hearing those words—

Yukino's heart trembled.

"…Yuigahama-san…"

"Can I call you 'Yukino-chan'?"

For a moment—Yukino was speechless.

Then, slowly, she nodded.

"…Mn."

"Yukino-chan, let's be best friends forever."

Yui beamed.

"…Mn."

For the first time—

Yukino felt warmth in her heart.

Yui's honesty was undeniable.

She wasn't jealous.

She was genuine.

And as for Su Yu…

Yukino was curious about him, but she wasn't sure if she liked him yet.

At most—she admired him.

Music for the Anime

Back in the music room—

Su Yu finished composing two songs, even writing down the lyrics.

Just then—

Yui and Yukino arrived to call him for dinner.

Turning around—

Su Yu blinked in surprise.

Yui was now holding onto Yukino's arm.

…When did they get so close?

"Su Yu-kun! Yukino-chan's cooking is amazing! Even better than yours!"

Yui grinned.

"…Is that so?"

Su Yu didn't question it. He simply stood up and walked toward them.

"Did you figure out the music?" Yukino asked.

"I did. And I even wrote the lyrics. After dinner, I'll play them for you."

Hearing that—

Yukino hesitated for a moment, then spoke.

"If I like the songs—"

"I've already thought of the third story."

Su Yu interrupted.

Yukino froze.

And in that instant—

Su Yu brushed past her, walking ahead.

Snapping out of it—

She turned, watching his back as he walked away.

"Su Yu-kun is amazing. I hope the third story is a happy one."

Yui smiled expectantly.

"…I just hope it's not another tragic one."

Yukino sighed.

Dinner & Music

During dinner, Haruno watched the three of them—but said nothing.

Su Yu ignored her gaze.

Yui, however, was a bit nervous around her.

Yukino had questions for Su Yu, but she didn't want to start a conversation in front of her sister.

So—dinner was surprisingly quiet.

Afterward—

Haruno got a phone call and left.

The two girls cleaned up, while Su Yu returned to the music room.

As they finished cleaning—

They heard the sound of a piano.

Su Yu was playing.

Stepping into the room—

Yukino immediately furrowed her brows.

"This song… doesn't seem to fit the other two, does it?"

It carried a mournful tone.

It didn't sound like Puella Magi Madoka Magica's music.

It didn't sound like Parasyte's music.

"It's for another story."

Su Yu shook his head.

"…What kind of story?"

Yukino asked curiously.

Su Yu looked at both girls.

And—he didn't answer.

This story wasn't ready to be revealed yet.

"Let's focus on the other two songs first."

Su Yu handed the lyrics to Yukino, then started playing.

As the melody filled the room—

Yukino read the lyrics carefully.

Meanwhile—

Yui simply watched Su Yu, smiling.

Just being able to listen to him play was enough to make her happy.
