Chapter 31: Chapter 31: The Lonely Flower on the High Mountain

Superpowers and Romance

A question: What would a high school student do if they suddenly gained superpowers?

Answer: They'd use it to fall in love.

That, at least, was Su Yu's biggest takeaway from the movie they had just watched.

A normal high school boy gains an ability, has a crush on a girl, saves her from danger, and from there—well, everyone could predict the rest of the plot.

As the credits rolled—

Yukinoshita Yukino sighed, feeling like she had just wasted two hours of her life.

Yuigahama Yui, on the other hand, seemed to have enjoyed it.

As the theater emptied, the three of them followed the crowd outside.

Once outside, Yukino turned to Su Yu.

"Su Yu-kun, can you write a movie script? One that isn't so boring?"

"I understand your frustration, Yukinoshita-san, but I think some live-action adaptations are still good."

"Parasyte?" Yukino guessed.

"Puella Magi Madoka Magica wouldn't work as live-action, but Parasyte would. If a director approaches us for adaptation rights, I can let you handle the negotiations."

"It probably wouldn't be that expensive." Yukino thought for a moment.

"Does the Yukinoshita family invest in films?" Su Yu asked.

Yukino was caught off guard.

She hesitated, then looked at him.

"If my sister thinks it will make money, she'll invest."

"I see. I'll make sure she sees the potential profits."

Su Yu nodded, dropping the subject.

He wasn't eager to get involved with the Yukinoshita family—he just wanted to reduce financial risks.

Yukino opened her mouth as if to say something but ultimately remained silent.

Truthfully—

She didn't want to work with her sister.

But she also understood why Su Yu, as the original creator, wanted to leverage their resources.

If she tried to stop him, it would be selfish.

Meanwhile, Yui simply listened quietly, not interrupting as they discussed business.

Yukino's Apartment—The Lonely Flower on the High Mountain

After leaving the theater, they took a train to Yukino's apartment complex.

The station wasn't far, and a shopping center was conveniently nearby.

When they arrived—

Yukino unlocked the door.

The three of them took the elevator to her floor.

As they stepped out—

Yui couldn't help but comment, "This place is so quiet."

"That's because I'm the only one living here." Yukino replied.

"Eh?!" Yui blinked in shock.

Su Yu smirked and teased, "Yukinoshita-san, do I still have a chance if I start pursuing you now? I don't want to work hard anymore."

"No chance. Keep working hard." Yukino shut him down immediately.

With that, she opened the door.

Inside—

Su Yu and Yui changed into indoor slippers and followed her into the living room.

Yui glanced around—

The apartment was spacious, but it felt empty.

The large, open space only made the loneliness more obvious.

"Make yourselves comfortable. I'll prepare the ingredients for dinner."

With that, Yukino walked into the kitchen.

Meanwhile—

Su Yu walked to the large window, gazing out at the cityscape.

From this height, he could see everything—a breathtaking panorama of the city below.

"Yukinoshita-san really is like a princess living in a castle." Yui said softly, standing beside him.

"She lives here alone—a perfect match for the title of the "Flower on the High Mountain."" Su Yu murmured.

"The lonely Flower on the High Mountain?"

"Yeah."

"…I want to be her friend. A real friend." Yui said seriously.

"I support you." Su Yu looked at her and thought to himself, I do too.

What If?

After a brief pause—

Yui hesitated, then asked,

"Su Yu-kun… if Yumiko hadn't asked for my number that day… would you have ended up with Yukinoshita-san instead?"

"That wouldn't have happened."

"Why not?"

"Because I only started talking to Yukinoshita-san after we got together. You came first. I was already thinking about leaving the Service Club before that."

Su Yu took Yui's hand, squeezing it gently.

"Really?" Yui looked surprised.

"Of course. Would I lie to you?"

"I believe you, Su Yu-kun."

Yui smiled sweetly, resting her head on his shoulder.

Su Yu wrapped his arm around her waist.

Blushing—

Yui buried her face in his chest.

Seeing her adorable reaction, Su Yu pulled her even closer.

She tilted her head up, looking at him—

Slowly—she closed her eyes.

But—

"This is Yukinoshita-san's home. If she sees us, won't you be embarrassed?" Su Yu reminded her.

Yui snapped back to reality—her face burning red.

"…Tomorrow, come to my house. I'll seriously tutor you." Su Yu whispered.

"…I don't believe that."

"Fine. Then tomorrow, come over so I can properly bully you, you little idiot."

He hugged her tighter.

Yui's blush deepened as she lowered her head.

Seeing her flustered expression, Su Yu mischievously let his hand wander downward—

Only for Yui to quickly stop him.

"Su Yu-kun…"

"It's your fault for being too cute."

He whispered into her ear, sending shivers down her spine.

A Private Concert

After an hour, Yukino finished preparing the ingredients for dinner.

"Yukinoshita-san, can we see the rest of your apartment?" Yui asked curiously.

"Come with me."

Yukino glanced at Su Yu before leading them to other rooms.

Yui walked ahead, while Su Yu followed behind.

The tour included:

A study, furnished with bookshelves, a desk, and a sofa.A music room, containing a piano, guitar, and violin. Her bedroom, decorated with plush cats.A guest room, where Haruno sometimes stayed.

As Su Yu entered the music room, he approached the piano.

"Do you want to try playing?" Yukino asked.

"I've never touched a piano before."

"Would you like to hear me play?" Yukino's voice was soft.

"Yukinoshita-san, please play something!" Yui eagerly encouraged.

Su Yu said nothing—

But his eyes showed his anticipation.

Sitting at the piano, Yukino gently pressed the keys, testing the sound.

Then—

A beautiful, elegant melody filled the room.

Her performance was flawless—far from that of an amateur.

Yui held her breath, afraid of disturbing the music.

Meanwhile—

Su Yu silently memorized every note, using his enhanced memory ability to steal the skill.

As the final note faded, applause suddenly came from the doorway.

Both Su Yu and Yui turned to look—
