Chapter 151: Chapter 152 – How Can a Human Be That Powerful?!
> "Sovereign, she's awake."
While Alex was still discussing matters with the others, Selena approached him with an update.
> "Well, our new comrade finally woke up?" Raven arched a brow, clearly intrigued.
"I've been dying to meet her."
The others shared her interest.
> "Alright then," Alex clapped his hands and stood.
"Let's go say hello."
The group followed Selena through the base corridors until they reached a private recovery room.
Creak—
As the door opened, they saw Liz, propped against a pillow, quietly gazing out the window.
She turned at the sound.
Her complexion, once deathly pale, now held a healthy flush.
She looked sharper, more focused.
No doubt about it—mutant physiology was incredible.
She'd just undergone major surgery, and now she was sitting up like nothing happened.
---
> "How are you feeling?" Alex asked, stepping closer.
> "Much better." Liz nodded, her expression earnest.
"I'm Liz. Liz Sherman."
> "Alex," he replied, then gestured toward the others.
"This is Raven, Hank, Emma, and Vanessa. There are others here as well—mutants, like you."
> "This place… it's a home for mutants. So there's no need to worry. Just focus on healing."
> "A family of mutants…"
Liz echoed softly, eyes distant.
There was a faint sadness behind them.
Once, she did have a kind of family.
They weren't all human either—some were monsters, supernatural beings, outsiders like herself.
But no matter how close they were, her powers were too dangerous.
Even those with abilities couldn't shield themselves from her flames.
Eventually, she had no choice but to leave them behind—before she hurt someone she loved.
Even now, knowing this was a mutant haven, Liz's heart was heavy.
She'd made up her mind.
Once she recovered, she'd leave—before she brought catastrophe to these kind strangers.
---
> "Get some rest, Liz," Alex said gently.
"We'll check in on you again later."
Seeing that her mood was low, the group didn't press further and quietly exited the room.
---
As they walked, Alex muttered under his breath:
> "Liz Sherman…"
He turned the name over in his mind.
Then, staring off into the middle distance, it hit him like a bolt of lightning.
Of course.
She was from Hellboy.
The moment he connected her name and face, it all made sense.
She was the female lead in the Hellboy series—a powerful pyrokinetic who struggled to control her abilities.
In the movies, when she lost control, entire buildings were leveled.
Her powers were no joke.
That was likely the reason she left her old "family" behind.
---
But Alex wasn't too concerned about her instability.
With Emma Frost and Copy Cat in their group—both experienced in mutant development and psychological training—they could help Liz regain control.
Especially Emma.
In the original Marvel timeline, she eventually became a teacher at Xavier's School.
If anyone could guide Liz, it was her.
No—the real issue wasn't Liz's powers.
It was her background.
If Liz existed here, then so did Hellboy—and by extension, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD).
That meant government ties, UN recognition, and a potential diplomatic nightmare.
And Hellboy himself… clearly had feelings for Liz.
If she stayed with them, the BPRD would almost certainly come knocking.
But Alex didn't dwell on it too long.
Once Liz was healthy, he'd just ask her directly.
---
> "Sovereign."
Just as he was sifting through these thoughts, Selena returned—looking like she had something to say but was hesitating.
> "Something on your mind?"
Alex gave her a calm, reassuring look.
> "Go on, speak freely."
> "It's about the succession ceremony, Sovereign."
Selena spoke carefully, choosing her words.
"The Elders are growing a bit… impatient. They're hoping you'll give a final word on it."
Ah yes—the succession ritual.
Marcus had mentioned it before, and Selena had followed up a few times.
Alex had always brushed it off.
He didn't care about ceremony or titles.
But the tribe had been loyal. They had followed him without question.
A little formality wouldn't kill him.
> "Alright," he nodded.
"Let's do it. Give them the go-ahead."
Selena's eyes brightened immediately.
To Alex, it was trivial.
But to them, it was everything.
A clan led by a recognized "Sovereign" was entirely different from one without.
---
Meanwhile – Fountain Plaza
The bodies were gone.
The wreckage—helicopters, armored trucks, weapons—had all been cleared.
But the bullet-riddled pavement, and the scorch marks from missile blasts… they remained.
The scene was still chilling to behold.
Though the military had pulled out, the plaza was under full lockdown.
And yet, into this sealed zone… rolled a garbage truck.
When the truck's rear opened, two "monsters" climbed out.
---
One was a towering red-skinned brute with broken horns on his forehead:
Hellboy.
The other had shimmering blue skin, gills on his neck, and webbed fingers:
The aquatic psychic mutant, Abe Sapien.
Both were elite agents from the BPRD.
---
> "What the hell happened here?" Abe muttered, looking around at the carnage.
"There are bullet holes everywhere. The air still smells like blood."
> "Jesus… this looks like a goddamn warzone."
That voice came from the truck's driver, a regular human: John Myers.
He was Hellboy's human handler—pulled from BPRD to assist.
Given how Hellboy looked, he couldn't exactly walk around in public.
Someone had to drive, file reports… be "the face."
---
> "Liz…"
Hellboy's face darkened.
He clenched his stone fist and turned to Abe.
> "Come on. I need to know what happened to her."
Abe didn't speak.
He removed his gloves in silence.
Placing one hand on Hellboy's arm, the other on the scorched ground, he activated his retro-cognition.
Images began flooding their minds.
---
Gunfire.
Dozens of armed agents unloading automatic rounds into Liz—
Only to have their bullets melted away by a blazing barrier of flame.
Hellboy's fists clenched harder.
---
Missiles.
A rocket struck Liz dead-on and sent her flying.
> "Bastards…"
Hellboy growled, his voice a low snarl.
Abe's face was equally grim.
---
Then—
BOOM!
A sonic explosion. A streak of red and black descending like a god.
A young man, unarmed, tore through the battlefield.
He tanked bullets, crushed missiles, fired lasers from his eyes, and single-handedly took down three gunships.
Hellboy and Abe were frozen.
Speechless.
> "No way…"
> "How the hell is a human that strong?!"
Even by BPRD standards—that was insane.
Hellboy had faced demons, elementals, eldritch horrors…
But this guy?
This was something else.
---
Still, when they saw Liz carried to safety by that same superhuman, they breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Whoever he was—he didn't mean her harm.
---
> "So, we're done here?" Abe asked cautiously.
"She's safe. And technically, she's not even part of the Bureau anymore. This was your personal mission."
> "Doesn't matter," Hellboy said without hesitation.
"We're bringing her back."
