Chapter 150: Chapter 151 – A Foe Even Alex Finds Troubling

Liz's surgery lasted four full hours.

Throughout that time, no one dared disturb Alex again.

Not a single ambush. No backup team. No helicopters this time.

It was almost as if that mysterious "Master" had really let her go—just like he said.

But Alex wasn't so naïve.

He didn't trust the man's words, not even for a second.

His super hearing had been on high alert the entire time, sweeping every corner of the surrounding blocks for the slightest disturbance.

Just in case that bastard decided to pull something behind the scenes.

He was still uneasy.

So just to be sure—he called in Emma Frost.

---

> "Alex, what's the emergency?"

Emma's voice was tense as she entered the hospital.

Perched on her platinum-blonde hair was a strange-looking, bulky device: a portable Cerebro enhancer that Hank had custom-made for her.

Emma still thought the thing was ugly as hell, but the situation was urgent.

So she'd set aside her vanity—for now.

---

> "Emma," Alex said without preamble, "I need you to scan the area. I want to know if someone's been watching me—psychically."

Emma nodded, immediately closing her eyes and unleashing her mental power.

Within seconds, her mind rippled across every mind in a five-block radius.

Memories, thoughts, attention—nothing was spared.

A moment later, she opened her eyes and shook her head.

> "I checked every civilian within five kilometers. No suspicious thoughts. No mental surveillance."

> "Any sign of other telepaths?" Alex asked again, just to be sure.

Another shake of the head.

Only then did Alex allow himself to relax.

This wasn't just Emma at her baseline—this was Emma after a power boost, her psychic range extended far beyond normal.

If even she didn't pick up on anything…

Then—for now—they were safe.

---

> "Alright," Emma crossed her arms, brows arching with curiosity.

"Now spill it. What's going on? And when did you get nervous?"

She tried to sound playful, but her tone carried a sharp edge.

If something could rattle Alex, it had to be serious.

> "Ran into someone… troublesome," he said plainly.

> "Troublesome?" Emma raised an eyebrow. "That's a first. Spill it."

Alex didn't hesitate. They were alone. Emma had already wiped nearby minds.

He walked her through everything—what had happened at the plaza, the ambush, the mind-controlled agents, the mysterious "Master."

By the time he was done, Emma's face had gone cold.

> "A hidden telepath with remote mind control?" she said grimly.

"That's dangerous on its own—but paired with military-grade assets? That's lethal."

---

Before the discussion could go further, Selena arrived in a rush.

> "Sovereign," she said, slightly winded. "The operation's complete. Liz is out of surgery."

Alex didn't waste a second.

He gathered everyone, and together they returned to the mutant base with Liz in tow.

---

> "What happened to her? How'd it get this bad?"

Raven's voice trembled slightly as she looked at the unconscious Liz being wheeled inside.

> "The surgery went well," Alex nodded. "She just needs rest now."

> "I'll run a full scan later," Hank added.

"With a few restorative formulas, she'll be back on her feet sooner than expected."

---

Emma turned to Hank, blinking.

> "You know pharmacology too? I thought you were just a gadget guy."

> "I dabble." Hank smiled modestly.

---

> "So what exactly happened out there?" Mimic Cat asked.

"You even had to call in Emma for backup?"

That alone spoke volumes.

For someone like Alex to need Emma's help—it had to be something serious.

> "Let's discuss it inside," Alex said.

Everyone moved into the war room and took their seats.

Alex stood at the center—and explained everything once again.

---

By the end, everyone was visibly shaken.

---

> "Another telepath?" Hank muttered. "That makes three already—Charles, Emma, and now this guy?"

> "This one can kill remotely, using just his mind," Raven said darkly.

"Even Charles can't do that."

> "He has access to military assets—helicopters, rockets, you name it," Mimic Cat added.

"He attacked a public plaza like it was nothing. That's not just power, that's political reach."

The tension in the room was thick.

Everyone felt it.

A weight pressing down on their shoulders.

---

But Emma simply leaned back, legs crossed, and smirked.

> "Let's not get too worked up."

"If this 'Master' didn't reveal himself to Alex, that means he's afraid. Or at least, cautious."

> "Truly powerful people don't hide behind curtains."

Her words weren't wrong.

Still, no one dared underestimate this mysterious figure.

Especially Hank—who now felt the urgency more than ever.

He needed to finish the upgraded Cerebro Amplifier, fast.

---

> "Besides," Emma added casually, "we've got Alex. What are we worried about?"

Everyone glanced at Alex.

The image of his laser eyes, sonic-speed movement, indestructible body, and absurd strength flashed through their minds.

Yeah.

Emma was right.

Why panic?

> "Exactly," Alex nodded. "A man who hides his identity can't be as powerful as he claims. We'll deal with him—if and when he shows himself."

> "What I'm more curious about… is what he said."

> "The true enemy of mutants… isn't humans?"

That line had stuck in his head.

Everyone leaned forward, intrigued.

Could there really be a third faction—something neither human nor mutant?

But with no solid intel, the group could only speculate.

And the more they speculated, the less they knew.
