Chapter 118: Nick Fury: Being Alive is Great!
Nick Fury and Phil Coulson couldn't help but raise their hands to shield themselves from the increasingly blinding light of the energy ball forming in Qi Jun's hand. At the same time, almost all major global institutions triggered their piercing alarm systems.
SHIELD's Triskelion headquarters was in complete chaos! In the command hall, amidst the blaring alarms, the projected alert source was none other than the headquarters of Qi Jun's company, where the director himself was currently located.
"Warning! Warning! Warning!"
"Energy readings have exceeded monitoring limits!"
"All personnel must evacuate immediately!"
"All personnel must evacuate immediately!"
"All personnel must evacuate immediately!"
As the shrill alarm sounded, it automatically triggered the highest level of emergency response. The entire SHIELD headquarters building erupted into a frenzy of activity. Similarly, other superpower monitoring organizations around the world were quickly thrown into disarray.
The energy signature akin to the one previously detected atop Qi Jun's company building had reappeared in New York. The terrifying energy capable of leveling the entire city eighteen times over had sent all superpower monitoring agencies into a state of shock.
"F**k! What did you say?"
Nick Fury suddenly clutched his ear, leaping from the couch in shock. His face, usually unflinching even in the direst situations, twisted in horror. Phil Coulson, equally shocked, dropped his teacup, which rolled across the expensive handmade carpet.
"Great god Qi Jun! Please, retract your divine power!"
With a thud, Nick Fury fell to his knees before Qi Jun, loudly pleading for the "deity" to withdraw his might. Of course, being a hardened spy, Nick Fury didn't literally bow, but the sentiment was clear.
Nick Fury was utterly defeated! He had no choice but to submit. Just moments ago, Deputy Director Hill's voice had relayed that the energy readings from the previous incident atop Qi Jun's company had reappeared. Nick Fury's first reaction was disbelief. He was right there in Qi Jun's office—how could he not know?
His second reaction was to realize that the increasingly bright ball of light in Qi Jun's hand could be the source. His third reaction was sheer terror at the thought of an explosion that could destroy all of New York multiple times over. And his fourth reaction was to loudly beg for mercy!
"Do you believe me now?" Qi Jun, his face pale, asked.
"I believe you! I believe you! Please, retract your power!"
Both Nick Fury and Phil Coulson were visibly terrified. If that thing exploded, the consequences would be unimaginable!
"Good, as long as you believe me! That will save us all a lot of trouble, right?"
Qi Jun nodded, glancing at the energy ball in his hand with a smile.
"Yes! Yes! No trouble at all!" Nick Fury and Phil Coulson nodded vigorously.
"Good."
With a thought, Qi Jun communicated with the mutation gem, absorbing the energy ball back into it. Almost instantly, the energy ball in Qi Jun's hand disappeared, and his complexion returned to normal.
Internally, Qi Jun couldn't help but smirk. To avoid trouble from the myriad organizations on Earth—or more accurately, to make a grand display—Qi Jun had used the mutation gem to simulate an energy ball that mirrored the previous energy readings atop his company's building.
Truth be told, Qi Jun himself didn't possess that much raw power. Even if he could release such energy, controlling it would be another matter. This energy ball, created using the mutation gem, was merely a scare tactic for those superpower monitoring organizations.
"Whew," Nick Fury and Phil Coulson sighed in relief as Qi Jun dissipated the energy ball. They both slumped in their seats, feeling immensely relieved. Staying alive was good!
"Mr. Qi Jun, rest assured, SHIELD has withdrawn all agents monitoring you and your company."
Hearing the relaxed tone of Deputy Director Hill in his earpiece, Nick Fury felt a bit lighter. Facing a city-level superpower like Qi Jun was terrifying. Sure, they could summon Captain Marvel, but she rarely returned to Earth. Bringing her back to fight Qi Jun would be catastrophic for the planet.
"As for the World Security Council and other organizations, I believe as long as they have any sense, they will no longer bother you."
Nick Fury showed great respect toward Qi Jun. Such respect was unimaginable when he first arrived but had now become a reality. The principle remains timeless: might makes right.
"Ha ha, none of that matters!"
Seeing the relieved expressions of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, Qi Jun laughed warmly. "What matters is that I have plenty of cosmic intelligence. Would you like to know more?"
Nick Fury and Phil Coulson exchanged bewildered glances. How could that not matter? Qi Jun just produced a terrifying energy ball and now claimed it was unimportant?
"Uh, well," Nick Fury awkwardly chuckled, adjusting his eye patch. "What kind of intelligence do you have?"
"There is nothing in this universe I don't know!"
Qi Jun confidently smirked. "As long as you can pay the price, I have any information you want!"
There were still some things on Earth that interested Qi Jun, but he didn't want to handle them personally, like collecting the blood of superpowered individuals. As for Skye's grudge against SHIELD, that was her business. A true neutral party wouldn't interfere. Completely forgetting that Skye could potentially shatter the planet, Qi Jun thought so.
