Chapter 117: A Warning to the World

Perhaps it was because Qi Jun had never liked this one-eyed, self-assured spy even before he crossed over. Or maybe it was the events surrounding Skye that made Qi Jun dislike this schemer. In any case, Qi Jun just couldn't stand the sight of Nick Fury, who exuded inexplicable confidence in any situation.

Because of Nick Fury's existence, Qi Jun's disdain extended to the entire SHIELD organization, even though he knew their mission was to protect Earth. But SHIELD wasn't the only organization protecting the planet, so why should he favor just them?

Qi Jun was unaware, and uninterested, in the fact that Nick Fury's face had darkened further. Qi Jun's attention was more focused on the pile of skill books manifested in his spatial ring:

- [SHIELD Level 10 Clearance Base Location Skill Book]

- [SHIELD Level 9 Clearance Base Location Skill Book]

- [SHIELD Level 8 Clearance Base Location Skill Book]

- [Nick Fury's Private Secret Base Location Skill Book]

- [Nick Fury's Personal Global Safe Houses Location Skill Book]

- [Nick Fury's Level 10 Agent Skills Comprehensive Skill Book]

Qi Jun had no interest in anything below Level 8 clearance. To him, the lower the clearance, the less valuable the information, and there was a high chance the SHIELD Level 8 bases wouldn't have anything he was interested in.

"Mr. Qi Jun, you must believe that everything we do is for maintaining peace and protecting our Earth!" Unable to take the hard approach, Nick Fury immediately switched tactics, trying to placate Qi Jun.

However, hearing Nick Fury's words, Qi Jun rolled his eyes, nearly pulling out the [Nick Fury's Private Secret Base Location Skill Book] and [Nick Fury's Personal Global Safe Houses Location Skill Book] to smack the black egghead. Qi Jun refrained, though.

"Oh, really? Since when did infiltrating every organization, every company, every group with agents become a way to protect Earth?"

Even without throwing out those skill books, Qi Jun had plenty of ways to mock SHIELD. After all, SHIELD had so many dark spots.

"I don't know what you're talking about, and SHIELD would never do such things!"

Nick Fury instantly denied Qi Jun's accusation, given Qi Jun's earlier stunt with the recording. Even if SHIELD was indeed doing these things, Nick Fury would never admit it again! Nick Fury, already wary from previous experiences, wouldn't leave any more evidence behind.

"Oh?" Qi Jun found Nick Fury's cautious expression amusing. "Then, the person who recently applied for the position of CEO's personal assistant at Stark Industries—oh, it seems she's currently in the legal department. Her name is Natalie Rushman. Does that ring a bell, Director Fury?"

"How much do you know?" Nick Fury's expression darkened immediately. Phil Coulson, who had been smiling amiably, stiffened. Though he quickly regained his smile, Qi Jun had already noticed.

Black Widow Natasha Romanoff, SHIELD's top agent, though only with Level 8 clearance, had always operated under Nick Fury's direct orders. Few knew of her existence.

"Ah," Qi Jun spread his hands, feigning innocence. "What do you mean by how much do I know? I don't know anything."

"Alright!" Nick Fury took a deep breath. "I apologize, Mr. Qi Jun!"

Faced with Qi Jun's unyielding stance and extreme uncooperativeness, Nick Fury reconsidered his approach.

"Perhaps we shouldn't consider you an enemy," Nick Fury said sincerely, looking at Qi Jun. "Please forgive us for treating you as a potential threat. But you must understand, SHIELD's mission is to protect Earth!"

"You may not know, but there are quite a few super-powered individuals on Earth. They've always been hidden. You're not the first, and you won't be the only super-powered individual. Given the abilities you displayed in Harlem, Manhattan, we must evaluate you—your true origins, your strength, your attitude towards Earth, and whether you pose a threat!"

This time, Nick Fury was very sincere, almost open. But Qi Jun remained unmoved.

"And then?" Qi Jun glanced at Nick Fury. "This report would instantly leak out, landing on every major organization's desk."

Even if HYDRA hadn't infiltrated SHIELD, there was still the World Security Council controlling SHIELD from above. Only truly classified projects involving only Nick Fury and his handpicked agents were genuine secrets. For everything else, secrecy was a facade.

"No organization can evaluate me, not even SHIELD, backed by the World Security Council."

Qi Jun didn't care about Nick Fury's frown. When he first crossed over, SHIELD might have been a behemoth. But now, it was no longer intimidating; it was weak, laughably so.

"I let Coulson call you here because you're naturally suspicious. A message through Coulson wouldn't have sufficed. You needed to be told directly."

Qi Jun set down his teacup, an energy ball forming in his hand, its glow intensifying. He continued, "Or think of this as a warning to SHIELD and the World Security Council: do not provoke me!"

"The consequences are beyond what you can bear!" Qi Jun said coldly.
