Chapter 60: CHAPTER 60: Serum Heist
"Don't be so eager, lizard boy."
Seeing the Lizard charge at her without hesitation, Spider-Woman quickly dodged his attack and threw the briefcase out of the room.
When he saw the briefcase flying toward him, the Lizard immediately pulled back his claws. If he ended up tearing the case and breaking the vials, it would ruin all his plans.
Noticing that the Lizard's attention was entirely on the briefcase, Spider-Woman shot her web to the wall outside the freezer and swiftly escaped.
Once the Lizard caught the briefcase, the first thing he did was check the two vials of serum inside.
When he saw both were intact, he couldn't hide the smile on his face. "HAHAHA!! This is simply the most wonderful thing in the world."
"Spider-Woman, you're truly making a great contribution to humanity's future."
The Lizard turned around and realized Spider-Woman was no longer behind him.
Before he could wonder why she had vanished, a familiar voice came from above his head.
"Hey, lizard boy."
"I'm up here."
The Lizard instinctively looked up when he heard the voice, only to be met with a kick to the face.
Spider-Woman grabbed the briefcase back with her web.
"Thanks for warming it up a bit. This thing was freezing."
"Oh right!"
"Lizards are cold-blooded animals… so of course you can't warm anything up."
She kicked the Lizard again just as he was getting up, sending him flying back into the freezer. Ruby immediately shut the door.
"Ruby, where's the lab?"
Before Ruby could answer, Gwen's Spider-Sense went off.
She heard a loud crash from inside the freezer.
The Lizard burst through the wall and charged straight at her.
Spider-Woman flawlessly dodged the Lizard's attack.
His strike smashed into the wall, destroying it with ease and filling the room with smoke and dust.
"That definitely would've hurt if it hit..."
"How can someone's head be that hard?"
Though she had already dazed him with a kick to the head earlier, this proved just how tough the Lizard's skull really was.
If it had been a normal man, she might've killed him with that kick.
"SPIDER-WOMAN, GIVE IT BACK!!"
Through the smoke and debris, the Lizard charged again, attacking Gwen.
She could clearly feel that the Lizard had become much stronger and his regenerative ability had increased.
But that didn't matter. She had to protect the briefcase in her hand.
"For starters, that doesn't even belong to you. How can I return something that isn't yours?"
Still, her sharp tongue remained unaffected.
"No, it's mine."
"Curt Connors and I created it together, but Oscorp stole our research and the serum."
"THEY'RE THE REAL THIEVES!!"
Spider-Woman was briefly speechless.
The Lizard's words had some truth.
He did help create the serum.
"Then I'll take it to Dr. Connors. Your current mental state isn't exactly fit to be safeguarding it."
"GIVE IT TO ME!!!"
As she dodged, she shot another web and pinned the Lizard's feet to the ground.
Losing his balance, the Lizard crashed straight to the floor.
"It's getting late, you know? I'm done playing with you, big guy."
Gwen spotted her chance and ran toward the windows.
The Lizard grabbed a chunk of concrete from the destroyed wall and hurled it at her.
---
At the same time
Several officers had already gathered behind George, blocking Oscorp's entrance.
All it would take was George's command.
It was impossible for the security guards to make the police leave, but they also couldn't let them in—otherwise, the consequences would be serious.
"I've already told you, you can't enter without a search warrant or orders from my superior."
"Captain Stacy, Peter really—"
Beside George stood Curt Connors, who had just arrived.
"Yeah, I know."
"But I still don't understand why Peter came to Oscorp after already using the serum."
Connors wore a thoughtful expression.
For a moment, he just couldn't figure it out.
Maybe he'd ask Peter himself when he saw him again.
"Captain Stacy, please understand. We can't let you in."
The head of security led his team to block the gate and continued, "There are no unmonitored areas in Oscorp."
"I also looked into what you just said, and no one has infiltrated Oscorp."
George couldn't do anything. He didn't want to clash with Oscorp's security.
And he wasn't even sure he could catch the Lizard anyway.
But by tomorrow, this would definitely be front-page news, and NYPD headquarters would be swarmed by reporters.
"What would it take for you to let us in?"
"Unless there's an explosion inside right now—"
Before he could finish, the sound of shattering glass rang out from the third floor, startling everyone.
All the officers instantly drew their guns and aimed toward the noise.
They all clearly saw a large chunk of concrete falling from above.
The security chief was stunned.
It wasn't an explosion, but it definitely proved someone had broken in.
"We're going in, now."
George pushed the head of security aside and moved forward.
"Wait a minute, I need to call our boss first."
He needed to make a call?
George was furious—but luckily, the other security guards were too distracted now.
Everyone was focused on the disturbance upstairs.
At George's signal, a group of officers rushed inside.
Just as the head of security finished the call, he saw the police already storming in.
Now he had completely lost control of the situation. From the other end of the line, the general manager's voice came through: "What's the situation?"
"I'm almost there now."
"General manager, someone really broke into Oscorp—a chunk of concrete just came flying out the third-floor windows!"
"What did you say!?"
It had to be said—being the security chief wasn't an easy job.
He hurriedly gave a vague and slightly exaggerated explanation of everything.
"One group stays here."
"Another group, come with me. We're going up to see what's happening."
