Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Motivation and Potential

Bang!

After Miles returned to the dorm, he threw everything on his table to the floor and broke the small lamp.

Then he threw the sketchbook he used for drawing out the window.

He had just witnessed his uncle's death. He was sad and angry. He had killed someone—and that someone was his uncle.

Suddenly, the book that had flown out the window flew back into the room. Miles sensed it and instinctively turned around to catch it.

Everyone came in through the window and saw tears forming in the corners of Miles' eyes. Arthur had already told them that the Prowler was Miles' uncle.

"Hey, man."

Peter asked with concern, "Are you okay?"

Peter placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "I know how you're feeling, Miles... We all went through this... I lost my Uncle Ben."

"I lost my Uncle Benjamin." Noir also put his hand on Miles' shoulder.

"I lost my father," Penny said with tears in her eyes. Although Aurora was younger than Penny, she still hugged her gently.

Gwen, Arthur, and Aurora said nothing. They were the luckiest among them all—they hadn't lost someone in that way.

"Miles, the hardest part of this is that... you can't save everyone."

Spider-Ham was sitting in the chair, also trying to comfort Miles.

"That was my fault... There's no way you can understand."

"Miles, believe me, we're the only ones who can understand you." Peter knew exactly what kind of responsibility Spider-Man had to carry.

Suddenly, the door opened behind Miles.

Everyone jumped straight up to the ceiling.

Miles' roommate, an Asian guy, walked in. He was wearing headphones, sat down happily in a chair, and grabbed a comic book to read.

The young man spun his chair around, forcing everyone above to keep shifting their position.

But then he looked up—and saw several people clinging to the narrow ceiling.

"Hey, man." Miles, who was squished between Peter and Noir, greeted his friend.

"Do animals talk in this dimension? I don't want him to freak out," Spider-Ham asked Miles.

The next second, Miles' friend collapsed backward, fainting onto the floor.

After laying his friend on the bed, Miles turned around and saw that only Arthur and Peter were still looking at him.

"What happened to you?"

"Miles, we're here to say goodbye." Arthur and Peter exchanged a glance, and Peter stepped forward.

This time, things were different from before. They were going to the Kingpin's base. Peter didn't want to take Miles along—it was far too dangerous for someone with no experience.

"We can say goodbye at the collider," Miles offered, knowing they didn't plan to take him—but he said it anyway.

"You don't understand, Miles. You have to stay here."

"I have to go so you can go home. That's my responsibility." Miles didn't want to hear that.

"They'll go home, Miles. I'll stay here."

Miles frowned and turned his head toward Peter. "You're taking my place? If you stay, you're going to die."

"I'm Spider-Man. I'm going to do what has to be done... I just wanted to tell you that in person."

"But..." Miles started to say something, but Peter cut him off.

"Give me that little thing. Please don't make me use force to take it." Peter said.

The two stood in a tense standoff. Arthur sighed at the situation.

"Miles, unfortunately, this time you have to listen to him. Please—give it to him," Arthur said.

Miles and Peter both looked at Arthur, surprised. Miles hadn't expected Arthur—who had always supported him—to say that.

Although Peter was surprised, he nodded to Arthur and then looked back at Miles. "Trust me, Miles. This time is different."

"This isn't fair! You have to tell them I can do it!" Miles said.

"Unfortunately, it wasn't their decision, Miles," Arthur said with a sigh.

Miles looked at Arthur and Peter with sadness in his eyes.

"I'm going to make Kingpin pay! You have to let me make him pay!" he shouted.

"Miles, if you try now, you'll just get yourself killed. You're not ready yet." Peter dropped the pretense and pulled a chair over with his web, then pushed Miles down into it and webbed him to it.

After taking the USB stick from Miles, Peter turned to Arthur and said, "Let's go, Arthur—we're running out of time."

Peter went out the window without hesitation.

"Arthur, I..." Miles wanted to say something, but Arthur interrupted.

"Miles, I know your potential. Believe in me—and more importantly, believe in yourself. You'll know what to do when the time comes." After Arthur finished speaking, he too left, following the others.

Miles would go after them anyway—Arthur really didn't have to say anything.

Watching everyone's backs as they left, Miles lowered his head in disappointment and helplessness.

Arthur's words echoed in his mind.
