Chapter 50: Chapter 50: He is not prepared
"Actually, I have a suggestion," Arthur said as he turned his eyes to Miles.
"Absolutely not!"
This decision was immediately contested by everyone.
In their eyes, Miles was just a child who had only recently gained his powers—fighting a villain now would surely get him killed.
"You're forgetting one thing. What do you think will happen to you?" Arthur asked, placing his hand on his forehead and sighing.
"What?" Penny asked.
But in the very next second, everyone except Miles and the couple, May and Ben, began to tremble like glitched-out characters in a video game. They all collapsed to the ground, pain spreading throughout their bodies.
It was as if space itself were constantly squeezing and tearing them apart.
"Arthur is right. None of you can stay here after destroying the collider. If you stay, you'll die."
"I'm the one who's going to shut it down. I'll send you all home before that."
"I made a promise, and I have to keep it."
In his heart, Peter's death weighed heavily on him. He had to do something to make up for the guilt he carried.
Spider-Man Noir stood up and asked, "Who's the little boy?"
"His name is Miles. He's going to save the multiverse," Peter said.
"I'm really going to," Miles added.
"He can turn invisible—look how crazy that is. Go ahead, show them," Peter said, looking at Miles.
"HMPH!" Miles tried.
"I can't control it yet," he admitted.
"He doesn't know how to control it yet, but it's still super cool. Show them the little shock thing," Peter said.
"Hmm!" Miles tried again and, with a helpless expression, said, "I still can't control it."
"Did you hear that? He can't control it yet, but he can already do a lot. What else can you do?" Peter said, still trying to ease the awkwardness.
"Only those two things."
"Ahaha, just those two things." Peter was smiling, and bit by bit, the walls around his heart were breaking down.
"UFF ~ We're screwed," Noir muttered as he looked at them.
Spider pig and Penny shook their heads in disapproval as they looked at Miles and Peter.
"Ugh... I believe in Miles. He can send us home," Arthur insisted, standing by his belief—because only Miles could do it.
With the exception of Miles, each of them had their own worlds and families. Staying here was the same as suicide. Their best shot at returning home was to trust Miles.
"Arthur, are you sure? He's still just a child," Gwen said.
"Although I'm a child too, I was trained by my parents," Aurora added.
Gwen and Aurora had doubts about Arthur's decision but also respected it.
"I'm sure of my choice."
Noir was still unconvinced. He stepped forward and began to speak, "Listen to me, kid. Kingpin's coming with his henchmen—heavy guys, like fridges. Are you really going to fight them all alone?"
"Well, actually, I've never fought anyone before."
"Surprise attack!" Noir suddenly shouted and swept Miles to the ground with a low strike.
"Can you reboot a mainframe while being shot at?" Penny asked, tossing a motherboard to Miles on the ground.
"Reboot what?" Miles asked as he got up, only to be punched again by Noir and fall once more.
"Can you withstand the moral ambiguity of your violent actions?" Noir continued, approaching Miles step by step.
"Can you help your aunt and uncle choose tourist attractions?" Aunt May interjected right then with a completely off-topic question.
"Can you float when you smell a pie?" Spider pig added, floating bizarrely in the air.
(How the hell does he do that?) Arthur thought.
"Can you be strong?"
"Relentless?"
"Disciplined?"
"Above all, no matter how many times you get knocked down—can you get back up?"
"That's enough, guys," Peter tried to stop the verbal barrage. But deep down, he also saw Miles as just a kid who had only just received his powers.
After everyone finished speaking, they surrounded Arthur, intending to continue persuading him not to involve Miles.
Noir said, "My friend, you can't do this. He's not ready—it's painfully obvious."
"He's just a child. One of us has to stay behind and do this."
"Just look at him… hmm?"
"Miles?"
Everyone realized that Miles had already vanished. He had taken the elevator back to the ground floor while invisible.
"See? He really was invisible."
-------
The weather outside had improved.
Arthur stood alone at the door, waiting for Miles to return. After a few hours, Miles's hurried figure appeared in Arthur's line of sight.
"Arthur, my uncle! My uncle is the Prowler! He works for Kingpin and tried to kill me!"
Miles spoke quickly, almost out of breath.
"Calm down, Miles. Is anyone following you?"
"I don't think so… probably not."
But in the next second, Arthur's sharpened instincts reacted to an incoming attack. He grabbed Miles and leapt away just in time—an explosion erupted where they had just been standing. The blast hurled Arthur into a car.
"Tsk. I thought I could get both at once," a man muttered in frustration from a rooftop not far away.
"Arthur!" Miles shouted.
The noise outside caught everyone's attention instantly. They rushed out to confront the villains who had begun to appear one by one.
