Marvel : Deadpool Is My Best Friend

Chapter 165: Chapter 165 : Illuminati

"Damn, what a guy Alex Ray is! He sure knows how to run his mouth!" Alexander Pierce glowered at the TV screen, watching Alex Ray's interview, his eyes swirling with a mix of emotions too tangled to name.

He hadn't expected those three nuclear missiles to fail to take out Alex Ray.

Now, Pierce was neck-deep in his own mess, barely keeping his head above water. If he hadn't struck a covert deal with Madame Hydra and Baron Strucker, he'd likely be rotting in a cell by now.

He knew he couldn't move against Alex Ray for a while. Not yet.

First, he had to get S.H.I.E.L.D. and the New Avengers in line.

His gaze shifted to Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic, sitting across from him.

Reed was also watching Alex Ray on the screen, his expression a storm of conflicting feelings.

On one hand, he was relieved he didn't have to bear the weight of saving millions of lives, and that his team—the Fantastic Four—was safe.

He knew the future Avengers would need those core members as their backbone, with Susan and the others as his key allies.

But on the other hand, Reed couldn't hide the jealousy gnawing at him.

He craved the spotlight Alex Ray commanded, the adoration of the masses.

In his mind, if he were the one in front of the cameras, he'd deliver a speech more eloquent, more moving than Alex Ray ever could.

He vowed silently that one day, the world would know Mr. Fantastic was the true hero protecting the planet.

Sure, he'd joined Hydra, but he convinced himself it was all for world peace.

Pierce's stare snapped Reed out of his thoughts.

"Avengers… what's your next move?" Pierce's words hit like a lightning bolt, jolting Reed's mind.

He looked up sharply, his eyes flashing with determination and anticipation.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he met Pierce's gaze, waiting for what came next.

Pierce's eyes held a glint of approval.

His voice, deep and commanding, filled the room. "When the team's back, I'm naming you captain of the Avengers. That's part of our deal."

Reed's heart surged with excitement and ambition. This was the chance he'd always dreamed of, the goal he'd been chasing.

But a flicker of unease crept in. Without Nick Fury, the Avengers were a mess, teetering on chaos.

Still, this was his shot to prove himself, and he wasn't about to let it slip.

He took another breath, then looked at Pierce with confidence. "Don't worry, Director Pierce. Under your leadership, I'll have the Avengers under control in no time. They'll be the world's last line of defense."

Reed already had a plan. He'd win over some, sideline others.

He'd marginalize Fury's loyalists—Captain America, Hawkeye, the old guard.

New blood like Bruce Banner? They were his best bet.

He'd also scout for fresh talent to bolster the New Avengers.

Then an idea hit him. "Director Pierce, I think the Avengers need a rebrand. The name's tied to Fury's era. We should wipe his mark clean."

Pierce's interest piqued. He nodded, urging Reed to go on.

Reed's pulse quickened. This was his moment to shine.

he said quickly. "The final call's yours, Director."

Pierce's lips twitched with approval. He hadn't expected Reed to play the game so well, so fast. It put him in a good mood. "Let's hear it. What's your idea?"

Reed's heart leapt. His chance had arrived.

He took a deep breath and blurted, "Why not call it the Illuminati?"

The words hung in the air. Pierce's brow furrowed.

"The Illuminati? Why that?" Pierce's voice was calm but carried a weighty seriousness.

Reed froze, his mind scrambling. He didn't know why he'd said it. The name had just… come to him, like a whisper in his head.

A voice seemed to echo in his mind: *"May the stars guide you and me, goodbye!"*

It was etched in his thoughts, unforgettable.

When Pierce saw Reed's hesitation, he fell silent for a moment.

Then he nodded, giving his approval.

Reed exhaled, relief washing over him. He'd cleared the first hurdle.

He gave Pierce a deep, resolute look, then turned and left the office, his posture radiating determination.

But Reed missed the flicker in Pierce's eyes as he turned—a glint of mockery and disdain.

*"The Illuminati, huh? You join Hydra and think you can still chase the light? Not a chance, Reed. The moment you signed on with us, you traded light for darkness. You're a wolf we'll never tame,"* Pierce thought, his understanding of the Illuminati skewed.

To him, Hydra was darkness, and the Illuminati symbolized light—an opposition, a betrayal of Hydra's cause.

Reed, oblivious to Pierce's thoughts, strode out, buzzing with excitement for his future with the Illuminati.

He dreamed of uniting the Fantastic Four under his leadership, leading the new Illuminati to save the world and bask in global adoration.

But he didn't know that, back in Hell's Kitchen, three members of the Fantastic Four were at odds.

The spark of their conflict? Alex Ray and Hell's Kitchen itself.
