Chapter 1: CH 1: OMNIVERSE Chat group
"Hey Mom, can we change the song?" Ragnar asked his mother from the backseat. He knew his father wouldn't agree, so he chose to appeal to his mother, who doted on him the most.
Sicilia raised an eyebrow, her left hand reaching for the radio dial as she gave Eliot a pointed look.
Eliot Haddock looked at his wife with wide eyes. "Oh, come on, it's classic music," he pleaded.
Sicilia rolled her eyes, but she lowered her hand before turning towards the backseat with a smile. "How about this," she said, "We let your father enjoy his song, and I'll make your favorite apple pie for dinner."
"Really? With whipped cream?" Ragnar asked excitedly, bouncing in his seat, his eyes wide with anticipation.
Sicilia beamed at her son's reaction. "Of course with whipped cream," she said,
"I wouldn't forget that."
Elliot smiled as he drove, relishing the family bonding moment. He glanced at Ragnar in the rearview mirror. "And you'll share it with me, right pal?" he asked jokingly.
Ragnar crossed his arms, huffing in response. "I'll think about it," he muttered, turning his head away.
"Oh, come on," Elliot said, his face a mixture of sadness and humor.
Sicilia smiled at her husband and son's playful banter, but then her eyes widened as she noticed the car in front of them abruptly turning left, heading straight towards them.
"Look out!" she shouted urgently, but her warning was cut short as the car slammed into their pickup truck.
*Boom!*
The impact shattered the front of the pickup truck, while Ragnar's head slammed against the back window of the car, shattering it. The other car in front was mangled, its front completely destroyed as it spun out of control.
Pain lanced through Ragnar's mind, followed by a sudden, jarring memory, a fragment of his past life that he couldn't initially grasp.
Images from his previous life flashed before his eyes, but he couldn't savor them as the collision replayed in his mind.
Yet, the impact didn't happen. Everything froze, time itself seemed to stand still. In front of him, Ragnar saw a blue screen filled with lines and words.
[OMNIVERSE CHAT GROUP]
[Do you want to join?]
"Isn't this system a bit overbearing?" Ragnar muttered to himself, staring at the choices in front of him.
[YES/YES]
"Do I even have a choice?" he thought, complainingly. He didn't want to be forced to make a decision. But before his eyes, the words shifted, as if the system had heard his complaint.
[NO, you do not. Why do you think you're even here? Do you think you're lucky? No, you're not. You think some god or robot will be good enough and bored enough to give you a system from the goodness of their heart? Well, bad news for you, you've read too many novels. Ain't gonna happen.]
"What the fuck? Do you want me to agree, or are you just trying to hurt my feelings?" Ragnar's shock and bewilderment echoed in his mind.
Yet, this time, the chat group system remained silent, its words reverting back to the same choices as before.
[DO YOU WANT TO JOIN?]
[YES/YES]
Ragnar couldn't help but pause, a heavy sigh escaping his lips.
"What if I don't agree?" he asked, summoning a sliver of courage. He didn't want his decision forced upon him.
The words on the screen remained unchanged, but beneath the options, a new word began to appear:
[Look around, what do you think?]
"Is that a threat?!" Ragnar's mind was a whirlwind of shock and doubt. He'd read countless stories about protagonists receiving powerful systems and chat groups that would make them stronger. But this one kept threatening him, pushing him further and further into a corner.
He looked around, taking in the scene of devastation.
He knew there was only one outcome if he didn't agree. He wasn't about to become a human pancake in his second chance at life.
"Yes, I agree," Ragnar answered, his voice a defeated whisper, succumbing to the system's iron fist.
[Huh]
"Did you just scoff at me? What the hell?!" Ragnar's mind was spiraling. He was going crazy with this Chat Group system in front of him.
The system didn't respond. It simply began to change.
[WELCOME TO THE OMNIVERSE CHAT GROUP]
[Members: 1/5: Reincarnator]
[Do you want to open the chat group, gift pack?]
Ragnar couldn't help but wonder if every member was going to be given a gift pack.
"Yes, come on, give it to me," he said hurriedly, scanning his surroundings with a newfound urgency.
He wasn't about to risk dying, not after this second chance.
[Opening Gift Pack...3...2...1]
[You got X-Gene awakening]
[Asgardian physique awakening]
[Gene mixing 100%]
[Soul repair]
[Identification]
[Do you wish to accept?]
Ragnar's eyes widened as he stared at his mother and father, frozen in time. In his memories, there were no signs that they possessed any Asgardian powers or were even mutants. His mind raced, trying to make sense of this impossible situation.
"Accept!" Ragnar shouted in his mind, desperation fueling his words. He needed to move forward, to change this situation, to survive in this life no matter what.
[Soul repairing...3...2...1]
Ragnar felt a deep, resonating shift within him. It was as if a void had been filled, his soul overflowing with completeness. The memories of his past life flooded back, vivid and whole, like a tapestry woven with threads of time.
"But why do I feel something is missing?" he questioned, a thread of uncertainty weaving its way through his newfound clarity. 'Could the Chat Group system not truly heal his soul?' But his doubt quickly dissipated as the chat group continued to unfold.
[Asgardian physique awakening..3..2..1]
[X-Gene awakening..3..2..1]
[Gene Mixing..3..2..1]
Ragnar felt a surge of raw power coursing through his body. His bones felt like steel, his skin like tempered leather, his muscles bulging with newfound strength.
The change was profound, his physical density tripled, a transformation that left him breathless. As the power surged through him, a deep well within his mind awakened, a reservoir of latent psychic energy.
He tried to control it, to tame its chaotic surge, but it was a relentless force, seeking expression. Then, a wave of golden psionic energy enveloped him, a shimmering, radiant shield that pulsed with an otherworldly power.
The time around him continued, the golden energy cocooning him completely.
The world outside seemed to blur, the sounds of the car crash fading into a distant echo. But this time, as he awakened to his mutant psychic abilities, he found himself connected to something else, to someone else.
The mind of the girl in the backseat of the car they had collided with.
•-----•-----•-----•-----•
Ragnar found himself standing on a stark white expanse, a blindingly white void that stretched infinitely in every direction. Before him stood a young girl with fiery red hair, her eyes ablaze with an inner light. Jean Grey.
"Who are you?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity. But in this ethereal space, Ragnar saw a flicker of something else in her eyes, a primal flame that hinted at the immense power she possessed.
'What the fuck is this? Why am I facing a boss-level powerhouse at the start?' Ragnar cried inwardly, his mind reeling. He'd known this was the world of X-Men and Asgardians, but he hadn't imagined crashing into Jean Grey herself.
"Are you afraid of me too?" Jean Grey asked, her voice a low murmur with sadness and suspicion, her gaze fixed on Ragnar. She sensed his unease, a tremor of fear that rippled through the ethereal space between them.
As if in response to his apprehension, flames began to flicker around her, dancing like restless spirits, their light casting an eerie glow on her face.
Ragnar opened his mouth to speak, but he couldn't say anything as he knew for himself he was afraid, after all in front of him was the phoenix force host and maybe lying wasn't really a good idea.
Then, the world shifted. A blue screen, filled with white text, flickered into existence within this ethereal space. its presence is a stark contrast to the soft glow of the flames that surrounded Jean Grey.
While Ragnar remained stunned, as the system remained invisible even from Jean Grey who possessed one of the three forces of the Marvel Universe.
[Detecting Major Destiny]
[Mission one: Prevent Charles Xavier in changing Jean Grey's memory]
[Reward: Soul Connection, Psion Energy]
Ragnar scanned the blue screen, searching for options, but there were none.
"Now I can't choose anything?!" he shouted inwardly, his frustration mounting.
The chat group was becoming increasingly unreasonable.
[No, complete it or ignore it. Is up to you.]
The chat group words appeared, stark and unforgiving. A sense of relief washed over Ragnar. At least there was still a choice, however limited it might be.
Ragnar looked at Jean, his fear still palpable, but a spark of defiance ignited within him. 'There ain't no reason not to try,' he thought, strengthening his resolve. He found a sliver of courage and admitted what he truly felt.
"I'm afraid of you," Ragnar said, his voice trembling slightly as he met Jean Grey's gaze.
