Chapter 76 - II
The two were locked in a stalemate, neither giving in.
When Xiao Yutang, who came to deliver food, saw this scene, he was so frightened he dropped the food box to the ground.
He pulled Yan Changfeng back and pleaded, “Young master, calm down! You know Old Yan’s temper. Please spare him this time!”
Even though he didn’t know what had happened, his plea for mercy wasn’t misplaced.
Tan Chuyan put away the dagger, shot a cold glance at Yan Changfeng, and turned to leave.
Xiao Yutang asked cautiously, “Young master, are you going out?”
“Do you want to stop me too?” Tan Chuyan shot him a sharp look.
“Of course, I didn’t dare.” Xiao Yutang had probably guessed the reason for Tan Chuyan’s anger. He picked up the food box, patted the dust off it, and handed it to Tan Chuyan. “Take this with you and eat when you are hungry.”
Tan Chuyan’s expression finally softened a bit; he took the food box and walked away.
The crimson figure disappeared from the courtyard, and Xiao Yutang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He turned to look at Yan Changfeng and said hurriedly, “Are you crazy? No one dares to stop him!”
“If I don’t stop him, am I going to watch him die?” Yan Changfeng argued, “Look at how pale his face is. Why is he tormenting himself like this?”
“So what? Why are trying to stop him?” Xiao Yutang scolded, “I think you’re out of your mind. You dared to stop him! The young master has never been a kind person. No one can change what he has decided. All we can do is obey his orders and follow his wishes.”
Xiao Yutang grabbed Yan Changfeng and chased after him outside.
Yan Changfeng struggled: “Even if he really wants to kill me, I must stop him. I can’t let him abuse his body like this! Let go!”
The veins on Xiao Yutang’s forehead throbbed. He struck with a punch. “Our young master has his own measure. He insists on going out just to see Feng Chilie! Do you not understand?”
Yan Changfeng asked, “Then will Feng Chilie come back soon?”
“Come?” Xiao Yutang smiled bitterly. “If he could come back, he would have come back long ago. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he see the young master for these past three days?”
Yan Changfeng hadn’t gone anywhere in the past few days and only spoke about Tan Chuyan, so he didn’t know much about the outside world.
He vaguely guessed something: “Did something happen to Feng Chilie?”
Xiao Yutang nodded and stopped talking.
Yan Changfeng completely gave up the idea of stopping Tan Chuyan because he realized he couldn’t stop him.
.
After leaving the general’s mansion, Tan Chuyan rode Zhaoye directly to the academy, but Feng Chilie was not at the academy.
He turned his horse’s head and went straight to the palace.
On regular days, if Feng Chilie was not in the academy, he was usually in the palace, teaching Feng Libai about defensive strategies, just in case.
Now that the gatekeepers knew Tan Chuyan, they let him go directly.
Technically, running a horse in the palace was a crime punishable by beheading, but this Jing Kingdom was not the same as the previous one, and the formalities between monarchs and ministers had long been abolished. There were only generals, no princes.
Tan Chuyan went straight to Feng Libai’s residence. Before he arrived at the palace gate, he saw a team preparing to set off.
Seeing someone about to leave, Tan Chuyan, who couldn’t shout, had to throw his dagger out.
As one of the top killers of the Purity Sect, Ji Bei was very alert to danger. He drew the sword from his waist to block the dagger, a fierce look flashing across his brow.
But when he saw the person approaching, Ji Bei was momentarily stunned.
Why did Tan Chuyan want to kill him?
Was it possible that Tan Chuyan was collaborating with the enemy?
The expression on Ji Bei’s face turned a little ugly.
As Tan Chuyan approached, he said with difficulty, “Sorry, I can only use this method to call you.”
Oh.
It turned out to be a misunderstanding.
Ji Bei breathed a sigh of relief.
Tan Chuyan, his throat aching, asked, “Where are you going?”
Some things could not be hidden. Ji Bei pondered for a moment and said, “Sir, my brothers from the Purity Sect and I planned to save people.”
“He…” Tan Chuyan’s voice choked, “Did something happen?”
“Yes,” Ji Bei said truthfully. “The night you fell ill, Cui Yuanqing came to the city, and the general personally led the soldiers of the Wolf Eagle Cavalry to meet the enemy.”
Hearing this, Tan Chuyan’s face did not show much sadness. He just tightened the reins and said firmly, “I will go with you.”
Ji Bei said, “But your body…”
“It’s okay. Let’s go!” Tan Chuyan interrupted him and walked away.
.
They rushed out of the city gate as the moon shone brightly in the sky.
Tan Chuyan looked around and saw only the soldiers who had died in battle.
The dark yellow earth was dyed red with blood.
He dismounted and searched through them one by one.
He felt happy and sad to see that the person who died was not Feng Chilie.
Fortunately, as long as the person who died was not Feng Chilie, he might still be alive.
Sadly, where was Feng Chilie?
Stepping over the battlefield and over the corpses, Tan Chuyan’s thoughts wandered endlessly.
Suddenly, a fluttering red caught his eye, and Tan Chuyan’s heartbeat stopped.
It was Feng Chilie’s spear!
The spear was held in the hand of the person kneeling on the ground, standing upright against the sky and the earth. The red tassel on the spear moved with the wind, as if bidding farewell to the people in the distance.
Note
This is really weird. Counting Tan Chuyan’s intelligent, he should have easily solved the epidemic but why is it being dragged on with no real solution.
