Chapter 3: MY LIFE
MADISON’S POV:
I tried to open my eyes when I felt something soft on my forehead. I don’t know what it was, but it felt so good. Then I felt that soft thing on my eyes again, and I opened them, only to see him. He looked at me in shock, and I didn’t know why he was looking at me like that. That’s when I realized the soft thing I felt on my forehead and eyes was his lips—he had been kissing me, and that’s why he was looking at me that way.
I didn’t say a thing. I just looked at him completely while he looked at me. He was tall and muscular, his dark brown hair neatly gelled, and his ocean-blue eyes held an emotion I couldn’t read. He was dressed in a black shirt and black jeans, and he looked like a Greek god. I smiled, and that’s when I remembered I was shamelessly drooling over him. I immediately turned to the other side to hide the blush on my cheeks.
“Don’t turn! You’re the only one who has the right to look at me like that. Now, it’s your breakfast time. I’ll call the nurse,” he said and pressed the button on my hospital bed.
Two nurses came in, and he went outside. The nurses cleaned me up and changed my hospital gown into a pastel green knee-length dress. While I was looking at my dress, he came back in with a plate in his hands. He placed it on the side table, and I saw fresh fruits and nuts. I scrunched my nose at the sight. That’s when I heard his voice.
“Don’t do that. Fruits and nuts are good for you,” he said, and I looked at him with a pout.
He smiled, sat on the chair, and started to feed me. Even though I didn’t like the fruits, I was starving, so I ate quietly. I looked at my dress, then at him, as I was about to ask him a question, and it seemed like he understood me without a word.
“The doctors said we can take you home today. Do you like the dress?” he asked, and I nodded at him.
I really did like the dress; it felt so comfortable. And I was happy to finally be getting out of this hospital room after two weeks. Yes, I’d been sitting on this hospital bed for two weeks. Thinking about that day made my heart start to race.
FLASHBACK (MADISON’S POV):
My head throbbed painfully, and I tried to open my eyes but failed. It wasn’t only my head—my whole body hurt terribly. I couldn’t move my hands or legs. After battling with myself, I managed to open my eyes. I looked around; everything was white and blue. All the furniture was white, and the walls were a light blue. It looked like a hospital. What shocked me was that I couldn’t remember anything.
‘Why am I in the hospital? Who am I? What is my name?’ My head began to spin with all the questions running through it. I was even more shocked when I turned to my right side. There was someone sleeping while holding my right hand. I couldn’t even feel my hand—who was he? I started to cry and tried to move my hand, but I felt nothing. Hearing my cries, he woke up.
I didn’t know who he was. How could I know when I didn’t even know who I was? He looked at me in shock, his eyes almost welling up. He just stared at me as if I were something precious—I didn’t know. He snapped out of it when my cries grew louder. He immediately pressed a button on the bed, and two doctors and two nurses came in.
The doctors were asking me something, but I couldn’t understand anything. My mind was a complete mess. I tried to sit up but failed miserably. The doctors tried to calm me down, and HE just looked at me as before. Then a boy and a girl came in, and I had a faint flash of recognition for the woman. I didn’t know who she was, but I thought I knew her.
Seeing me looking at the girl, HE said something to her, and for the first time, I understood his words. “Marina, I think she remembers you. Try to speak to her.” That’s what he said to the girl. Both the girl and boy looked at me in shock, but when she heard what HE had said, she nodded and came closer.
The doctors and nurses gave her some space. She hugged me from my left side, and I could feel her. She whispered comforting words to me, taking my left hand in hers, and that’s when I realized I could feel my left hand. After a few minutes of hearing her ‘sweet nothings,’ I began to relax and stopped crying.
Everyone relaxed, seeing me calm down. No one left, not even the doctors. After what felt like hours, I opened my mouth.
“Who are you?” I asked the girl.
“I’m like your big sister,” she said with a smile, and I nodded, still confused.
“Dear, will you allow the doctors to check on you and answer the questions they’re asking? I promise you that nothing will happen to you, and no one here will harm you,” she said, and I nodded after seeing the truth in her eyes.
The doctors came closer and checked me over. Afterward, they asked me some questions about how I felt. What they said next truly shocked me.
“First, please don’t get upset, ma’am. You’re in good hands. A month ago, you were in a car accident and were admitted here by Ms. Marina. You were in very bad condition. After treating you, we conducted various tests and found that you lost your memory due to the accident. Ms. Marina here was also your friend before. Your legs will heal in a month or two, and your right hand will heal in a week or two. Your left hand is perfectly fine. You can’t feel your legs and right hand because we administered anesthetics to ease the pain. You’re alright, ma’am. Other things will be explained once you’re more relaxed and have had some food,” one doctor said, and all the doctors and nurses left the room.
I looked around to see HIM looking at me with the same intense gaze. Who was he? And that’s when I noticed something else shocking about me. I stared at it wide-eyed, trying to connect HIM with that thing.
