Chapter 299: Want to Pick Peaches Halfway, Joint Action?
Special Investigation Team office area, the air was incredibly quiet.
Mona, Reesi, and the agents from the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau were all closely watching Luo An and Fres in the center of the room.
Fres's words clearly meant: the truth of the case was already out, and he was trying to snatch the credit halfway.
One aspect was credit snatching, but thinking from another perspective, Luo An deduced that Fres's real target must be Ryan.
The other party was an undercover agent who had escaped the control of the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, which was a scandal in itself, so naturally, Fres would want to keep a tight hold on him.
Thinking of the somewhat rough methods used by the Los Angeles Branch, Luo An felt that if Ryan were detained in the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau's prison, it wouldn't be long before the guy ended up "committing suicide out of fear."
However... what does the scandal of the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau have to do with his Special Investigation Team? It wasn't Luo An who caused the incident.
After all the hustle and bustle, if someone else picked the peach, Luo An felt that he definitely wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
Thus, facing the gaze thrown over by Fres, Luo An didn't bother wasting words and directly said:
"Tomorrow morning at three-thirty, the Special Investigation Team will lead the SWAT team to officially initiate an arrest operation against the 'William Mas Gang.'
The main targets are Ryan, the undercover from the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, and Johnson, the gang leader in his faction.
The time has been set, the details of the tasks and other information will be reported to Group Supervisor Potante Byrne shortly.
If anyone disturbs the William Mas Gang before the action tomorrow, I will immediately report to the senior leadership:
Someone within our division has close ties with the gang, violating FBI regulations and federal laws!"
Luo An spoke forcefully, with a stern face and an intense gaze that relentlessly pressured Fres.
During Luo An's speech, Fres tried to interrupt several times, but was overpowered by Luo An's presence and failed to speak.
When it came to the last two lines, Fres looked moved, and said in a deep voice:
"Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, you..."
Before he could finish, Luo An reached out and shook his hand:
"Of course, during the investigation of this case, the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau has provided us with a lot of help.
As a token of our gratitude, after we handle this case, you will have a chance to interrogate Ryan."
Luo An finished speaking and did not let go, just quietly looking at Fres.
"..."
After a long silence, Fres, with a tense face, said solemnly:
"This case involving the William Mas Gang is very important to the Deputy Director; he will support me."
Luo An replied:
"This case resulted in the death of eight teenagers and holds significant social impact, and is even more important for the Director; he strongly supports me."
Hearing this, Fres took a deep breath, refrained from further words, pulled his hand from Luo An, and with a wave, led the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau's agents quickly out of the Special Investigation Team office area.
At this point, more words were useless, and Fres gained a deeper understanding of Deputy Group Leader Luo An Greenwood's assertiveness.
The agents behind Fres, when they left, gave Luo An complex looks filled with disdain, fear, and admiration.
Mona let out a long sigh of relief, and Reesi, after Fres and his people had all left, relaxed her solemn expression and gently patted Luo An's arm:
"Well done! I thought you were going to make this a joint case!"
"Why would it be a joint case? It's our case."
Luo An chuckled, ruling out the possibility when Fres tried to snatch the credit.
After a few seconds, Luo An continued:
"I'll go report this case to Group Supervisor Potante Byrne.
Reesi, you contact the SWAT, and Mona, you must clarify the headquarters, warehouses, and other locations of the William Mas Gang."
"No problem!"
"Leave it to me!"
Reesi and Mona immediately nodded in agreement.
"Good."
Luo An took out his phone, ready to call Potante Byrne, and casually mentioned:
"Looks like we're working overtime tonight. After we wrap up this case, let's take a day off!"
As Deputy Group Leader of the Special Investigation Team, Luo An had the authority to do so.
"That's great! I love you, Luo An!"
Upon hearing these words, Reesi immediately cheered, her previously sleepy feeling instantly dissipated, and she became energetic in an instant.
Mona also showed a smile, then suddenly remembered something:
Lately, Luo An had been more stressful, and if she couldn't come to work the next day, she wondered if this counted as an occupational injury and if there were any subsidies...
Meanwhile, Potante Byrne pressed the answer button, heard Luo An's details about the case, and immediately straightened up, energized.
————
The next day, at around 3:20 am.
In certain villa apartments, some bars, a deserted factory area... and other places in South Los Angeles, several SWAT tactical unit's black troop carriers were parked at a distance.
Reesi was in charge of leading the team in the bar area, Luo An was responsible for the factory area, and Mona was leading in the villa apartments and other regions.
As for Ryan's mother, she was handed over to another team of SWAT members, who had already arrived outside Ryan's mother's house.
Inside a troop carrier, Luo An checked that his equipment was all in order, then looked up at Potante Byrne sitting across from him, his face expressing helplessness.
Earlier, after hearing Luo An's details about the case, Potante Byrne immediately expressed his intent to join the operation and then hung up the phone without giving Luo An a chance to respond.
This left Luo An disoriented in the wind, a group supervisor instead of overseeing the central command, monitoring the operation progress and preparing for a press conference, was on the front lines, and even seemed ready to take a shot himself...
After a long silence, Luo An asked:
"Chief, won't we hold a press conference after the operation?"
"I've already informed headquarters to be ready."
Potante Byrne, understanding Luo An's insinuation, chuckled. This was not his first time being directly involved; since being assigned to Los Angeles, he had done it many times.
Potante Byrne, who had spent his early life amidst gunfire, enjoyed this kind of intense and exciting atmosphere on the front lines.
Moreover, during press conferences, Potante Byrne liked to appear in front of the reporters in his operational attire and answer their questions directly.
"OK."
Luo An made no comment about Potante Byrne's habits, as long as he wasn't usurping his command on the frontline, and wasn't planning to be at the very front, Luo An refrained from further comments, looked at his watch, and pressed the communicator:
"Mona, report the situation!"
"All regions are normal!"
"Good."
Luo An continued loudly:
"The time now is 3:28, we'll commence the operation in two minutes!"
"Understood!"
Reesi and the SWAT team leaders resoundingly acknowledged over the communicator.
Composed and calm, meticulous in thinking, and thorough in planning... Potante Byrne looked at Luo An with great admiration.
The two minutes blinked away, and quickly came to an end.
The next second, Luo An declared loudly:
"Begin the operation!"
Boom!
As his voice fell, the doors of the troop carriers were immediately pulled open from the inside, and the fully armed SWAT officers rushed towards their targets!
