Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 298: The Hidden Story Behind the Case

William Mas Gang, a medium-sized gang located in North Los Angeles, is involved in various illegal and profitable criminal activities.

The gang's organizational structure is relatively simple, with one gang leader and three main bosses under him.

Each of the three main bosses has four to five subordinate bosses.

One of the main bosses, named "Johnson", is in charge of the William Mas Gang's white powder business, and Ryan is one of the subordinate bosses under Johnson.

In a previous incident at the Federal Transportation Security Administration, an employee under Nasser who assisted the gang in smuggling drugs was killed, and the gang behind it was the William Mas Gang, with Johnson likely being the one who ordered it.

"After the employee's death, the white powder business under Johnson saw a significant decrease in revenue."

Fres's technical agent, pointing at the information on the computer, explained:

"As a subordinate boss under Johnson, Ryan is the most ambitious and capable guy.

It was most likely Ryan who first proposed the idea of buying off Nasser, evidence being his mother's prior contact with Nasser.

After that plan failed, it was also likely Ryan who suggested using a unique bait to lure Nasser's son, thereby forcing Nasser into committing the crime."

"Ryan's fellow inmate Victor is the proof."

Standing behind the technical agent, Fres suddenly realized and then gritted his teeth and said:

"This was not the task we assigned to Ryan, and he never reported any of this to us.

It looks like Ryan really intends to climb up the ranks in the William Mas Gang and betray the FBI."

"The reasons for Ryan's actions might not be because he wants to climb up in the William Mas Gang."

As Fres finished speaking, Luo An, standing behind Mona, saw the information she pulled up, pondered for a moment, then scoffed:

"This guy is probably planning to take a sum of money and then flee the federation with his mother!"

"What?"

Fres's expression froze:

"What do you mean?"

Seeing the confusion on his face, Luo An glanced at Fres, having already heard about the rough handling methods of LAPD in Los Angeles, infamous throughout the federation and often complained against.

It turned out that the Los Angeles Branch of the FBI was not much better, just as rough as LAPD.

With his arms crossed in front of his chest, Luo An nodded towards Mona's computer and calmly explained:

"You guys in Organized Crime Investigation pushed Ryan too hard. He indeed wants to betray the FBI; it is implied in the subtext of his chat with his mother.

However, Ryan knows he's compromised in your hands, and if he dares to betray the FBI, the FBI might use the gang to eliminate him.

So he plans to extort money from both you and the gang, then run away with his mother."

Based on the chat records between Ryan and Victor, his mother's chat records, the internal operation records of the Organized Crime Investigation, Ryan's current situation, and Ryan's behavior patterns in prison and within the gang, Luo An quickly deduced the other party's plan:

Ryan's earlier plan guessed under Fres's subordinate was almost right, suggesting buying off Nasser when Johnson's flour transportation route was disrupted.

But having investigated Nasser, Ryan knew this guy had a tough attitude and would not agree to his demand.

So, after Nasser rejected his mother, facing the query from boss Johnson, Ryan was not panicked at all, and he revealed his real backup plan:

Using flour to control Anthony, ultimately forcing Nasser to commit crimes.

This approach has two advantages; firstly, the batch of flour needs to be provided by the boss Johnson, allowing Ryan to intercept a small amount and convert it into the most needed funds before escaping.

Secondly, this operation would increase Johnson's valuation of Ryan. Once Anthony is truly under control and it's time to persuade Nasser, Ryan can suggest to Johnson to either take the money or carry the flour on a plane to test if Nasser truly chooses to cooperate.

Nasser's willingness to cooperate, whether genuine or not, is irrelevant; what's important is that batch of money or flour.

As long as he gets one of the two, Ryan can flee the federation with his mother and spend the rest of their lives in another country.

Before that, he could also request a sum of money from the FBI, with ample reasons as Luo An can simply speculate any to decipher their locations.

The success rate of this plan is very high because the FBI hasn't actually imprisoned Ryan's mother but has merely assigned a few agents to subtly watch her.

Allowing his mother to interact with Victor serves not only as a test of the FBI's stance but also does not rule out the possibility of Victor being the person in Ryan's plan to help his mother escape from FBI surveillance.

But the problem also lies with Victor.

Victor, who hasn't successfully completed elementary school, only knows that the fentanyl and carfentanil handed to him by Ryan are "strong" and "potent", completely unaware of the fatal potency of just 0.02 grams of carfentanil.

Eventually, it led to Anthony's death and seven other adolescents, sending Victor straight to hell.

During the analysis, Luo An continually referenced the chat records discovered by Mona and files from the Organized Crime Investigation Division to substantiate his judgments.

Thus, after hearing the analysis, both Mona and Reesi looked at Luo An with full admiration, several agents from the Organized Crime Investigation Division were dumbfounded, and Deputy Group Leader Fres looked at Luo An amazed.

After a long silence, Fres extended his hand and gave Luo An a firm handshake, his eyes gleaming as he said,

"Deputy Group Leader Greenwood of the Special Investigation Team still lacks several agents. When you have time, come visit our Organized Crime Investigation Division; we have many diligent and skilled young agents!"

Fres admitted to himself that he was too old to have a chance to join the Special Investigation Team, but his young agents still had opportunities.

As long as they joined the Special Investigation Team under Deputy Group Leader Luo An Greenwood, their future would certainly be bright.

In the future, when the other party is in a high position, Fres does not expect repayment but having another powerful ally is certainly a good choice.

"OK, I will definitely visit when I have time..."

Luo An grinned, forcefully pulling his hand away from the other's grasp.

Indeed, there are significant problems with the Organized Crime Investigation Division of the FBI, but more often than not, these are due to the commands of leaders like Fres, leaving the ground-level agents no choice but to obey.

Additionally, the agents of the Organized Crime Investigation Division are not lacking in intelligence; if pitted individually for personal qualities, most agents from this department could stand in the top tier in the entire FBI.

After all, sometimes they need to go undercover, and without brains and capabilities, they wouldn't survive long.

Mentally noting this, Luo An glanced at the time; it was already nine o'clock in the evening, so he spoke in a deep voice:

"Tomorrow morning, we..."

Before Luo An could finish, Fres interrupted him with a smile:

"Let our Organized Crime Investigation Division handle the operation to capture Ryan; we are confident we'll catch him."

"Hmm?"

Fres's statement made Reesi and Mona frown, and Luo An looked up expressionlessly at him.

Fres's smile remained, and the office of the Special Investigation Team became instantly quiet.
